Description

The monolithic form of this armored giant screams of brutality, evident even through the eerily serene expression on his face. A long, wavy mane of black hair falls down to his mid-back, resembling a great crimson lion, with a demeanor to match. Covering his upper torso is a massive steel breastplate which cuts off above his stomach, leaving his taut abdomen bare. Strangely, the metal seems to have a black finish over it, and the edges glimmer with a red tint. Holding up a skirt of solid black steel is a wide, metal-plated belt, buckled with a casting of twin dragons battling. The standard seems to be a focal point of his attire. Yet, the relevance of the design seems suddenly less important when you take note of the arsenal of weapons at his disposal. Pity the fool whom this giant decides to use them upon.

Role

A Bastard's Pride

Scarcely spoken fact: All fire giants, save for those of the royal
family, are bastards. Among such a brutish race as theirs, the
only ceremonies are those venerating conquest, individual strength,
and cruelty. There is no room or want for the ways of love. Devotion
between males and females is done without ceremony. And though a kind
of jealous, dangerous love can and does happen, it's grounded more
in the realm of lust and co-dependency.

Most of Kiadana's giants take no notice of the occasional slights
spoken about their ancestry, but Molo, who grew up cleaning the
privies of his orphanage and being immersed in the society, as well
as the shit, of other races, knew the depth of the offense. None of
the instructors cared to put much effort into stamping out any taunts
made towards Molo, because they all hated him for what he was. A fire
giant cut off from his kind, forced to live among humans, dwarves,
half-breeds, and others...one could say he had been cursed from birth.
But, strangely, Molo didn't see it that way. Owing to his nature, the
spirit of the One Law was alive and well in him, and he was biding his
time, remembering the insults, and plotting vengeance.

He grew tall and strong, even compared to other fire giants, but knew
nothing of combat. Still, when at last he came to blows with a dwarf
over the subject of his bastard heritage, it was shockingly easy for
him to overpower the stunted bully. He could have let him go with a
beating, but he didn't. Years of being nothing more than a slave to
lesser beings had insulted his pride beyond his ability to cope in a
non-violent way. So, he beat the dwarf to death. As he attempted to
drag the remains toward the cesspool, with which he was all too familiar,
he was discovered by one of the instructors, who was just coming back
from the privy. He shouted for the guards, and they arrived just as Molo
was finishing breaking his back over his knee. They came with clubs, but
murder was in their eyes. Desperate for a weapon, Molo made-do with the
only thing available; a chair. In those slow, drawn-out moments right
before battle, he laughed at the thought of beating these men with such
a silly thing as a chair. But, he did just that. Making use of the gaps
between the chair's legs, he entrapped both clubs and necks alike.

Of course, after the fateful showdown at the orphanage, Molo fled from
the eastern lands in search of glory, wealth, women, and self-discovery.
He did, however, always keep the memory of the chair battle in the back
of his mind, and learned to exploit a man's ignorance of tactics and
strange weaponry.

Molo's patience was beginning to wear thin, as usual, by the time the
Imperial Archivist arrived. Why Emperor Ckath had ordered these annoying
interviews was of little importance to the War Master. He suspected it
was a trick; this head-shrinker was going to find some weakness, some sign
of disloyalty, and then that would be it for him. Molo had no intention of
giving up any unnecessary information.

Just as he expected, the man who finally arrived was unforgivingly flabby
and wore the snobbishly apathetic expression of someone born into wealth.
Naturally, Molo categorized him as a potential Divine or Black, as they
usually lacked the discipline of a Blade. But, he kept his thoughts from
his mouth and sat silently, staring at the fat man as he adjusted his
woman robes, sucked his wind, and eventually sat down opposite him, on
the other side of a table.

"Good day, Molo," said the Archivist, whose face went white as soon as the
words left his mouth.

This was already going to go bad.

"I's don't care if the Gods themselves sent yous to talk to me! Yous will
show me the respect mah position demands, or I'll have your fat ass locked
in the stocks for a week," the War Master exploded, pointing his gargantuan
finger at the man's chest!

"Sincerest apologies, sir- ahh...War Master, sir!" He fumbled the words, but
quickly regained his composure, despite the beads of nervous sweat frantically
tumbling down his forehead. "As it happens, it was the Emperor who gave me the
order to be here. I much prefer the solace and order of the Imperial Archives
to these...ahhh...up-close pursuits of knowledge."

"Yeah, whatever the hells that means ya silver-tongued son of a bitch. Get on
with it."

Gasping, he continued, "Well, it has been made clear to me that you have quite
a distaste for talking about your past. Why, the records indicate that you've
never even given a surname..."

"A sir-what?" Molo's squinted expression suggested that he thought the man was
making up words to confuse him. He had no intention of being tripped up.

"Ahhh...a uhhmmm...," the man fumbled to describe something so simple that he
never had to before, "...it is a name in common with other members of the
family - a family name!" He seemed excited that he found an easy substitute
definition.

"Yeah, I knows what ya meant," he lied, "but ya gotta say things the hard way,
don't ya? Anyways, I ain't never seen the point in givin' that name. Hells, I's
didn't even know what it was til I went to Kiadana some years ago."

"You...didn't know?"

"Tha's right mockin' bird, I's didn't know. It ain't like I was raised in some
cushy little elf house, gettin' soft an' lettin' people wipe mah ass for me.
Hells, I don't know where I's got the name 'Molo'. Is what people been callin'
me for as long as I can remember."

"Very interesting. Would you tell me the surname...ah, that is, 'family name,'
you discovered in recent times?"

"Nope."

A pained sigh left the man's lips. "War Master, please remember, this is for
posterity." Moving to cut-off the inevitable question about the meaning of the
word, he quickly added, " That is to say, for future generations."

"No shite, fatty. I knows what posteratitty be meanin', but I's don't need your
help to summadat. Hells, lookin' like I's could be givin' yous advice." Molo
chuckled at his own joke, never guessing the enormity of his miscomprehension.

Having grown annoyed, and daring to test his limits, the Archivist went on, "Yes,
'ha-ha,' that is highly amusing. Shall we move on to something more pertinent,
such as your military exploits?"

Blank stare.

"Just tell me about the people you've smashed."

"Now ya finally gettin' to the good stuff. Wells, since I first be swear the
Oath o' Blood there's been many that done fell beneath mah might. 'Course, ain't
no warrior great without havin' lost an' learned. Feh, I's done that too. But,
I's won more'n I's lost an' I's still here."

Cutting in, the Archivist asked, "Speaking of your losses, could you tell me
about your defeats at the hands of a man named Ageryn?"

*THUD*

As the Archivist's body hit the ground, an axe-blade having hewn his torso from
stem to stern, a young Blade quickly opened the chamber door. With a sigh he
asked, "Want me to fetch another one, Boss?"

"There bein' any left?"

"Not for long, at this rate."

"Yeah. Is fine. Bring em, an' tell em not to piss me off with the A-word."

"Aye, War Master," the Blade snapped a crisp salute and departed.

Duped, Dumb, and Dangerous

The War Master picked through the belongings of the fallen druid, Sudora,
muttering all the while about how there was hardly ever any profit from
killing an Outlander. But, he thought his luck had changed when he found
the hellish-looking weapon among the corpse's wares. It was well made and
appeared completely normal, otherwise. So, he tried it out, taking a few
practice swings. His awareness seemed to lapse momentarily, as he marvelled
over the quality of this new addition to his arsenal. A fellow imperial
mentioned that it might be the Rod of Minos, but the name wasn't familiar
to Molo. He exchanged it for one of his other weapons, comparing the feel
of it. Yes, it was the perfect compliment to his preferred weapon; the wand
of Orcus. But, again, there was that strange feeling of "dimness" when he
gripped it the next time.

Some time later Molo realized that there was some manner of devious curse
upon the rod, and so he delivered it to the druid in hopes that he too might
suffer from it. But, by then it was too late. The War Master's cunning was
permanently crippled. He hardly notices a difference, but sometimes he finds
himself making mistakes more than once, or being confused by matters whose
answers were previously self-evident.

On a positive note he has become more focused in battle, as his ability to
shut out anything beyond his immediate concern has been augmented. Of course,
in nearly every other aspect of life it is a handicap. Whereas before Molo
always spoke briefly and to the point, though he weighed matters carefully,
he now just blurts the first thing that springs to mind. Fortunately, most
don't see a difference.
