The sounds of night permeate the air in the city of Hamsah MuTazz.  You can
hear the sounds of creatures moving about outside of the gates in the cool
desert evening. The lights are beginning to burn low as their source of fuel
begins to be used up.  Dawn is coming, but it isnt here yet.  A large figure
makes its way down the street of guilds.  He is a giant by any standard and
the bundle he is carrying appears to be human sized.  He keeps his hood up as
he deposits the package at the feet of the guildguard of Dark Knights.  Here
is another one that your master has requested.The guildguard nods and
kicks the package.  It groans in unconscious pain and doesnt move.  The
guildguard slips the giant a few gold coins and tells him to stop by again in
a few months.  He grabs the package and drags it into the guildhall.  He
opens the package and finds a young teenager, about age fifteen, lying beaten
and unconscious.  He applies a salve to some of the more grievous wounds but
otherwise leaves the child where it is. He then turns and heads up the
stairs to the meeting room to tell his master of the new arrival.

A few minutes later the master follows his guildguard down the stairs to
inspect the new recruit.  A malicious smile covers the face of the master as
he takes in the teen. 'He is a sturdy one.  He will do nicely, or he will
feed my weapon.'  The master directs the guildguard to leave him where he is
and feed him when he wakes.  A faint chuckle can be heard from the stairway
as the master ascends to his rooms.  The future of the teenager is now in the
hands of the Brotherhood of the Abyss.

A Place Among "Fiends"

A few months have gone by since the fate of a human teenager was placed in
the hands of the Brotherhood.  It is evening once again as we find ourselves
watching the teen.  He is standing in a ring of people being lashed with
flails and whips.  He does not cry out in pain but rather laughs with glee at
the torture being rained upon him.  His brown hair is tussled and turning red
from the blood flowing from his wounds. As time progresses the beatings end
and the master of the Brotherhood lifts the teen to his feet.  He pats him
once on the shoulder.  At this sign of acceptance the rest of the Brotherhood
gather around the boy and place a hand on him.  The master of the Brotherhood
utters an ancient chant and the darkness seems to grow thicker. The wailing
of demons can be heard as an aura spreads across the entire group, the
darkness clinging to the Brotherhood as the lanterns give off their feeble
light in an attempt to beat back the dark. 

After a few minutes have passed the group moves away from each other and
begins to feast on the food and drink that has been spread out on tables
around the outside of the room. During the time of their dark chanting the
childs wounds closed and only small pink scars remain. The Brotherhood
feasts and revels in their dark dealings as the night continues on.  After a
few hours of feasting and revelry, whores are ushered in to take care of the
needs of the Brotherhood.  The boy is given the gift of a small elven girl. 
He sneers at her and takes her to his bed chambers.  After a few hours he
walks back into the room and deposits the corpse of the elf on the floor.  He
looks at the master and says 'It seems I was too much for her, master.' The
master cackles and claps his hands, and the child lets an evil little smile
pull at the corners of his mouth.

The first kill.

A few years have passed since the teenager was accepted into the Brotherhood.
He is now clearly growing to be a full sized human man.  The sun is beating
down on the streets of Hamsah MuTazz and everyone appears to be moving
slowly because of the heat.  The teenager makes his way down the street and
stops at the guild of Masons.  He stands and looks at a mosaic being made
and puzzles out what needs to be completed with the piece.  He shows
exceptional understanding as he completes the work.  Perhaps it is the work
of the demons that he calls upon to fuel his power.  After being complimented
on his work, the young man makes his way to the market center.  He buys a few
chickens at the butcher and prepares a sack for travel. It would seem today
he is going to make his way past the city gates and see what the world
offers.

He travels about the lands taking in the different cities and learning the
routes of the roads.  He picks up gear and other things that have been left
by adventurers and replaces his own fine leather gear with other manufactured
pieces of armor.  He finds a decent sword and shield and makes his way to the
valley of the elves.  He chants mantras and brings his sword to bear against
the fair skin of the elven kind.  He cackles with glee as he severs limbs and
spills the guts of his foes.  All the while he grows stronger and an aura of
darkness grows deeper. 

He makes his way down the eastern road and hears cries of anguish coming from
a forest trail. As he is standing there in the midst of invoker quicksand he
watches with glee as the ragers are torn apart by a dark invoker named
Glastrom.  As the anticipation builds a paladin comes along and creates a
purple fog using some kind of magical pill.  The dust settles upon the skin
of Mortanis and he is revealed to all.  It is after this that a dagger is
thrust toward his back. The arial thief cries out against mages as he
attempts to take the life of Mortanis.  The teenager recalls his training and
remains calm.  He switches to a better weapon and mercilessly beats the arial
into submission, calling chilling touches to aide him in the birds
destruction.  It does not take long and the corpse of the arial is at his
feet.  He checks the pockets for treasure and makes sure to take the birds
coins as payment for his insolence.  It has been a good day!

A matter of choices.

Lightning lights up the darkened eastern road as the young man makes his way
back towards his hometown.  He has found in his travels word of an ancient
prophecy.  The prophecy that speaks of eternal night and the eventual
obliteration of this world as he knows it.  He wants to be part of that
power. He wants his share of what it will bring.  Thunder booms in the
distance as he lumbers along down the dark road.  He walks through the forest
path to the Khalid river and uses a boat to make his way into Hamsah MuTazz.
He makes his way down the street of guilds and enters the halls of the
Brotherhood.  He tells the master of his travels and of his future desires. 
The master nods and tells him that is one of the choices he can make and
belong. He also shares with him about the Empire and its own goals.  The
young man shakes his head at this and states again his desire to bring the
world to eternal darkness.  The master agrees that it is a good goal and
directs him to find the nightwalker guarding the chasm in the desert to the
south.

As the light of the sun peeks over the walls of Hamsah MuTazz our young
giant can be found walking down North Khalid avenue.  He makes his way out of
the southern gates and turns east in the desert.  He finds himself before a
Shadowy Nightwalker at the top of a dark pit.  He pledges himself to the
Nightwalker and seals his decision.  The rest is yet to be seen...
