Description

The face of the cowled figure before you is hidden behind a metallic mask of ruby and silver, which looks to bear the stains of old blood. Long white hair, which over centuries has lost its shine, frames the menacing visage as it flows to rest upon his shoulders. Red eyes which occassionally flare with malevolence move from side to side beneath the mask's eyeholes, as if scanning for infidels. Visible above the mask is a shining mark in the shape of a sceptre, which projects a sense of power, similar to, but distinguishable from, the drow himself. Rich robes of black, edged with crimson, hang about expensive and well maintained armor, and as the folds of material at the back of the robe shift about, you can see that they too bear the silver sceptre, in stark relief two foot high, but without the aura radiated by the tattoo on his forehead. About his platemail, a leather baldric is pulled tight, from which is slung a variety of weaponry. All of it appears well serviced but equally bears the signs of extensive use. Despite his clearly advanced age, he still holds himself straight, and moves with uncanny grace and deftness, almost as if he has been trained in the evasion techniques familiar to the more martial or stealthy professions. His body language broadcasts a will of iron, and you sense that this drow is not likely to back down willingly.

Role

A new plan

Added Sat Feb 21 04:05:09 2009 at level 51:
The Empire is his enemy. Former enemies now ally with him. Yet
none of these new alliances achieve anything besides satiating his
desire for revenge upon the Empire that, in his eyes, betrayed him.

Nererial wishes to be part of, nay, to lead, the dominant
power in the realm. That will never be the Blood Tribunal, with
their unambitious goals. It may currently be the Empire, but
Nererial seeks to replace it with something forged by his own hand.

To this end, he will seek to become a scion. To cleanse Thera
with their shadowy allies. To rebuild anew, a new Empire, with
Nererial at its head.

A little lost

Added Sat Jan 17 08:07:16 2009 at level 51:
Nererial has been taking his vengeance, siezing the codex a
number of times. However, this has required him to bargain with
those he would prefer not to associate with. The weak. The "pure".
The traitorous.

He has started to come back to his normal focus, but finds
himself at a loss -- what to focus on?

All his life he has believed in building something great. Something
permanent, and using it as a tool to empower himself. Now, his battles
leave him with a sense of unfulfilment. He is looking for a cause
to champion, but one that will still enable him to strike back
at those that betrayed him.

Coup

Added Sat Dec 20 07:03:03 2008 at level 51:
Nererial has to head to distant lands for a time, but will return
soon enough. When he does, he intends to make his play for
the throne. His tactics are simple, but will hopefully prove
effective. He will emphasise his age to each of the other, younger
council members. He will point out that the Empress is immortal
and that they will never outlast her to take the throne. He
will argue that if they do not support him, the vote could go
any way, and once it does, that there will not be another chance.

His offer will be this. Support me, and I will anathematise your
rivals, and place in their place whomever you choose. Then you
will not face competition when my end comes, which will be soon
enough.

Nererial hopes that this will be enough. If not, life will
become much harder. However, he doesn't intend to leave the rest
of the council in place. They will be unhappy when they discover he
has played them all off against each other, so he will deal with all of them.
Either demotion for all, or they will be hunted as anathema.

other ooc. If that is the case, isn't this guaranteed to fail?]

Nererial does not know precisely how to initiate the coup, so
he will try to persuade each council member to write to let Lord
Enlilth know of their desires.

Disquiet

Added Sat Nov 22 11:48:00 2008 at level 51:
The High Priest shifted upcomfortably before his desk, for
a number of things preyed on his mind. He was unsure as
to whether the Empire was true to its cause, or was being
subverted. Whether even he was partly responsible!

An orc bearing Zurcon's mark was accepted by the citizens,
rather than recognised as a foe. Indeed, even the Empress
(damn her for her immortality) consorts with the orc, more
than many. But it goes further. Those of chaos are tolerated,
without being forced to prove their loyalty. Nererial
fears that the Empire is taking the easy path, and the
easy path is usually the one to the spider's web, as they
said back in Teth Azaleth.

He has sought guidance from his Lord, but to little avail,
for only silence has reigned in the temple. Perhaps one more
prayer would not be misplaced.

A bit more about the early years

Added Sun Sep 14 07:00:44 2008 at level 49:
The Dan'Teth family were not one of the more powerful in Teth'Azaleth,
but they were one of the more numerous. As such, their survival
depended on making themselves useful to the greater Houses, but not
in such a way as to draw retribution from others. So they
enjoyed some wealth, but little respect or power. That is to
say, little power externally. Internally, well, those that could
subjugated the others of the family. Sister suppressed brother. Old
and wise suppressed the young and inexperienced. Nererial was no exception.
Unfortunately, he was at the bottom of the pile. A young male, even
his place within the Priesthood of the Spider Queen could not
protect him from their wrath and scorn. It is partly for this
reason that he has come to question aspects of power, and its use.
It is for this reason that he is quick to resent any that speak
down to him, and now that he is the older wiser one, he will be
quick to stamp down on it. None shall have what he wants.

Time to focus

Added Sun Sep 14 06:55:16 2008 at level 49:
Whilst Nererial is devout, he has had little time to devote to
preaching and contemplative prayer, for the enemies of the Empire
were numerous, and had grown bold with their swelling numbers.

Now they had been driven back, and in the main only the deadliest
still stood in opposition. And yet, even these mindless killers can not
require constant battle, for they are too few. So now has come the
time for other things. For looking inwards, rather than outwards
in order to grow stronger and stretch the Empire anew.

Nererial has started build his own power base, as well.
Already he believes he has the goodwill of the War Master and
Empress, and the short-tempered Shadow Lord is not of as much
concern as his threats might suggest.

Nererial has promoted the first of those he intends to bind to him,
but there will be others. Others of spirit, and guile. Secret and
overt eyes. Those that resist his influence will have to be brought
into a submissive state too, let their rebelliousness spread.

The position of High Priest is vacant, and Nererial is so close he
can almost taste it. To wield such influence... surely he can build
something great, to his own standards, and reap the lion's share of the
profits in the process. But it is time he started paying back what
he has been given. A tithe to the Dark Devourer should be instituted.
Now he just needs to power to make it happen.

Ambition in the Divine Sect

Added Mon Aug 11 06:46:03 2008 at level 32:
Ambition in the Divine Sect
Ambition is one of the driving forces that led
Nererial to the surface, and it drives him still.

Whilst he can give the impression of humility,
inside, he is not a humble person (part of the
reason for calling the Blood Reckoning when the
Black made demands on him). He thirsts for more
power, and watches those higher in the Priesthood
with envy. Indeed, he envies the Empress as well, but
he does not know if he is suited for such yet.

He desires higher rank to wield greater influence. To
lead the Empire, and guide them towards the Truth of
his own religion. If he should become enriched in the
process, well, it is only fitting that the Priesthood
should enjoy the trappings of power in return for
their efforts.

As a separate matter, Nererial is slightly irritated by
the tendency of the Blades to take his glory. For days
he has battled against the village giant guard, only to
have a Blade run in and claim the glory at the last.

It may be that soon, he will demand their presence from
the start, or refuse them the glory they seek.

Blood Reckoning

Added Mon Aug 11 03:14:01 2008 at level 29:
Nererial called for a Blood Reckoning against a Black,
who demanded he strip off to prove he'd taken nothing
from the corpse. Angered at the accusation, but
far moreso by the demand and ensuing threats, Nererial
forced the Black to put his words into deeds, or fail
trying. A few gold coins had perhaps been kept, but
they were going to go towards the good of the
Empire, and besides, the Black would never expect
coins to be left by the conjurer that killed him.

Everything else, was returned. Nererial has limits,
if only for those that serve the Empire.

The Divine Sect is the greatest of Sects. They will
not bow down to the lesser Sects.

It is done now though. The Black was slain, and
his tongue silenced. At least in public.

Multi killing

Added Sun Aug 10 12:38:43 2008 at level 29:
I know it looks like I'm multi killing Neriyin,
But honestly, it is him that keeps attacking me.

To the surface and the Empire

Added Sun Jul 20 10:01:30 2008 at level 1:
Teth Azeleth was worthy only of scorn. Home of the mighty, but
powerless. For what use was their might whilst they did not look
outwards?

For decades dreams had come in the night, whispering to this
particular drow that might must be applied to become power. That
wisdom and lore are useless if not put to accumulating power, riches,
and all else one desires.

Wrapping himself in the richest robes of the priesthood, to best
hide his body heat from those that would come after him, not to
mention that which lived in the caverns beyond the city gates, he
stole out, heading for the surface.

The drow of Teth-Azeleth were too set in their ways to change now. He
would find power elsewhere. He would teach what might is for. He would
be the arm of dark Enlilth, who whispered in his dreams.

20 10 An Immortal An Immortal added 250 exp for: Promotion and a little experience for backing up a promise to retrieve. He was facing anath and loss of empowerment if he failed.
32 40 An Immortal An Immortal added 500 exp for: Role - He left the underdark to apply his might to the entire world. Not much else about the character here.
44 72 Rayihn Battle and Fort are raiding, kill Ijerga and drive Ahtieli off and we don't bother to show, complaining that our mind is too slow. We hang out in our guild in Hamsah instead. A little weak, I'd demote if I was Aht.
50 136 Daevryn I've rarely seen an Empire guy so scared to gang people. His gt is a lot of 'can't gang that guy, I need some potions first or I'll just die!'
50 136 Daevryn Nererial: When Ardfil is not a ghost, kill him. Classy.
50 140 Baerinika Sent an email whining that I was too influenced by my spheres and cabals, complaining that I'd done a global echo mocking him. Sorry buddy, wasn't me.
51 173 An Immortal An Immortal added 500 exp for: Nice little rp in the shrine.
51 177 Daevryn A pretty constant presence for Empire in the early-morning-system-time hours.
51 211 An Immortal An Immortal added 250 exp for: Nice little conversation with Gahtho while they were beating up on each other.
51 278 An Immortal An Immortal added 1000 exp for: Tattoo title, xp add, he killed the cow for it.
51 286 An Immortal An Immortal added 500 exp for: Rather tasty kill of Una.
51 333 Daevryn This character is growing on me.
51 372 Rayihn I'll admit I don't like this player much (he can't stop himself from sending me emails complaining about my followers or my actions) but as far as getting items and RP he's pretty solid
51 372 Baerinika Anath'd per his request since he knew that was the way it would go and wanted to get it over with
51 372 Enlilth Title changed to reflect outcome of lack of council backing in his overthrow of Ahtieli. I really like this char too, but here comes the beating, lap dog style.
51 372 Enlilth Prayed twice to correct my spelling mistakes... what a peach! Untatted.
