Description

A black behemoth of a giant with eyes as fiery as hot coals glares at you from beneath a deeply furrowed brow. Two short and stubbly orange eyebrows are drawn close together as he stares at you and others around him. A broken and flattened looking nose sits plainly in the middle of his square looking face and a large toothy maw that appears to be twisted into a permanent snarl. He is as broad as two oxen and his arms resemble a collection of barrels tied end to end with shovel sized hands at the end. You estimate that he stands about twelve to thirteen feet from head to toe and he hold himself with purpose, like someone who has recieved training or has, at the very least, served in an army or guard. Looking at his armors you can ascertain the following.....

Role

The Bitrin within.

Added Wed Aug 7 04:38:36 2013 at level 21:
Nighden was 1 of 2 near-born sons of Vrekad and Tzema . They lived in
the fiery mountains of Kiadana Rah. Tzema was a guildmistress of
the warrior clan and Vrekad was the executioner for Lord and Lady Rah
who ruled the mountain range after the death of her late father.

They lived well and with little to no proper excitement and Nighden was
never allowed to speak of Vrekad's job as it could bring danger and death
to his family as the rule of the land was a harsh and cruel regime and
often those who would try and upset the grand order of things met with
Vrekad's axe or the short drop and sudden stop of the gallows. His mother
taught him to fight and to use almost all of the weapons the guild allowed.

She often would lecture him on the order of the land and how all things
must have their place and that strength comes from creating such a place
of order and civilisation. Upon reaching his becoming a 'Garg-a-Gak' (a full
grown giant male) he would venture into the mountain and be marked by
the heat and the flames.

It is said that all volcanic species of giant, when hot enough, will glow with
markings like tattoos (Bitrin) and these can be read by the shaman to
determine what lies within their soul. It would show ordered lines that
seldom touch or criss-crossing of lines and he would be born to order or
have chaos in his heart.

Nighden entered the volcano and stayed until the heat had him glowing
like a beacon and then it was his time to emerge and be read. As he did
so, his mothers face beamed looks at his proud father. A few people
gasped as the shaman looked in awe of his Bitrin as not one line on him
crossed another. He was marked well enough to be made part of the
guard, the royal guard to protect Lady Rah.

The celebrations were short lived as Nighden's twin brother came forth
from the volcano. His markings were as crossed, swirling and chaotic as
Nighden's were straight. The guards seized him and dragged him off to
await his execution. Nighden's parents tried to look unbothered but
Nighden noticed a quick, worried glance between them as Vrekad faced
executing his own son.

The Truth.

Added Wed Aug 7 04:39:06 2013 at level 21:
Nighden joined the royal attachment of the Rah guards and his first duty
was in protection of the Lady at the execution of the 'wilders', the name
given to those with chaos in their hearts. His father, he knew, would be
carrying out the executions and his brother, his twin, would be among
those who were to be killed. The ceremonies passed, the executions were
swift and there remained only one more to meet his father's axe.

His brother had approached the block with fear and a will to escape, he
pitied the family link to one who would act so cowardly in the face of
death, no pride shown in a craven death.

A bag had been placed over his head at his mothers request to the Lady,
to allow her husband to carry out his duty with precision and ease at not
seeing his sons face. His stomach lurched at the sight of his brother
needing tied to the block, cowardly and weak. The axe came crashing
down and the head in the bag fell into the basket, it was done, over.

The bodies and heads were usually dumped in the volcano, Nighden had
ventured up to watch but was shocked to count only six when seven had
been killed. He moved towards the servants and looked into the cart while
asking 'Where head in bag?' to which the reply was deafeningly silent. He
grabbed the first servant and stuck his halberd into his leg, pining him to
the ground and repeated his question. He was met with an answer he did
not like but it was an answer, none the less.

Kin Slayer

Added Wed Aug 7 04:40:14 2013 at level 21:
He slammed the door down with all his might, the thunderous noise could
be heard over the grumbling of the volcano. His mother and father stood
by the back door before a large mass that lay half covered. He rushed at
his father to demand an explanation but as he did so his mother stepped
in the way, taking half the length of the pike in her side and bringing her
club down squarely on the bridge of his nose. The lights sparkled for a
brief moment then blackness suffocated him.

When he woke he was tied to his old bed, his mother poorly bandaged, his
father looking like death rode his back.
'What in belly-fire you think you do?' his father growled at him but he
did not speak. His father was about to punch him when his mother spoke,
to explain what had happened.

Instead of letting the body of his brother return to the mountain fires to
be reformed into a less wild being they took his body to their dwelling to
get rid of him from there. Bad enough, thought Nighden, but more was to
come.

'The body, the giant you saw being executed was not your brother but
someone we cared less about. Your brotherstill lives. Her head hung
low as she went on 'He is free from the mountain, living as a wilder near
the base of the mountains.' Nighden could and would not believe what he
was hearing and screamed at them to let him go but they did not. The
pride they had, was for a son that was a wilder and not him. He was
supposed to be the one they were proud of, Nighden the royal guards.

He visibly sagged as the words of his parents washed over him, he went
numb and fell asleep, bound like a beast in his own dwelling. At least it
explained why the executed giant was cowardly and weak at facing death,
it was not his brother.

Nighden was compliant for the next few days and made out that he was
alright with what they had done and that he could be trusted to be
released. So they did release him and nodded at them both before
leaving the dwelling and heading back to his post. For days he wrestled
with the thoughts in his head and it ached like it did after his mother
cranialed him. He would not stand the pain anymore and reported the
incident to his superiors and was told to carry out a direct and plain order.
To arrest his parents and if they resisted, and he was sure they would, kill
them.

His mother was a great warrior and his father was a beast with the axe so
he needed more than his trusted halberd if he was to do this. He sought
a greater power than just his strength, he approached the guildhall of the
Anti-paladins and demanded them to teach him the bloodlust that he
would need.

Two nights later..

It happened like a story being read to him, it did not seem wholly real but
at the end of that night he was a kin slayer, his parents were dead, their
treachery dealt with and his mind at ease again. Nighden was raised to
personal guard duty for the Lady Rah and would do so for many years.

The Storm Giant Seige

Added Wed Aug 7 04:41:13 2013 at level 21:
The Blue giant Invaders assailed the mountains and their commander had
them well instructed. They were pressed backwards into the mountain
with each and every attack. The Blue giants brought forth the wrath of
their gods, with elves and men in support.

Feeling the impending doom of the mountain clan, Nighden gathered the
Lady Rah and the rest of the guard and descended deep into the fires of
the mountain and brought down the tunnel roofs as they went.

Day 12 of the Seige

The food was now gone, the water was in a little better shape and he
needed to act. He instructed the youngest of the guard to accompany him
on a patrol of the tunnels. No one seemed to question where Nighden
had found the meat he returned with.

22 of the Seige

Only Nighden, Lady Rah and her maid were left and stomachs were so
empty they began to gnaw away inside them. Nighden got up slowly
and approached the maid who, weakened by lack of food, trembled at
the sight of Nighden's blood-stained halberd.

The maid turned to her Lady and offered her a shimmering blue potion
saying that it contained magic to transport her away but not from the
depths of the mountain, only from the upper levels. As she passed it
to the Lady Rah, Nighden's halberd came out through her chest, just
short of the Lady Rah's.

Day 27 of the Seige

The blue giants were almost through and the Lady Rah nodded to him
and he invoked the bloodlust like he was shown and they approached the
the last set of gates. The Lady Rah tucked behind him, Nighden waited
for the gates to burst open before he lowered his halberd and charged like
a morosa demon.

The blue giants were thrown backwards again and again as Nighden and
his Lady Rah forced their way back to the upper levels. The bloodlust was
sustaining Nighden as he fought and they had burst clear of the blue
giants to make their way to the second level.

Lady Rah looked at Nighden with her eyes wide in shock as he left her
propped up by his halberd, as it stuck through her guts into the wall.

He gently removed the blue shimmering potion from her hand and
spoke, 'Sometimes you have to destroy all before you can rebuild
greatness - The Rah's were weak and sat in the mountain as enemies
grew strong. I will not make that mistake as I rebuild.'

He nodded to the Lady Rah as blood gurgled from her mouth and then
he turned to the onrushing blue giants and grinned. Quaffing the potion
he found himself in a faraway city.

A chance to build greatness

Added Mon Aug 12 03:42:14 2013 at level 34:
Nighden wandered the desert city of Hamsah Mutazz looking for the guild
of Anti-Paladins. He had amassed enough coin to join the guild in fights
against the bandits just south of the city. He was welcomed and began
to train hard on the new magic whilst trying to recall all of his training as
as a pikeman of the Rah's.

As he wandered through the market in the midday heat that so many try
to avoid he came across a large robust man who talked of an Empire of
Dominion. Nighden spoke with the man and by the end of his questions
he had found the place he wished to start to build greatness from.

He handed over 20 gold coins and spoke the oath that binds him to the
Throne. He was welcomed again by others who had spoken the same oath
and together they worked for the Glory of the Empire.

Interventions and Pride.

Added Wed Oct 30 09:08:23 2013 at level 40:
Nighden fell foul of Gharzal's whim and was demoted for not dying like a fool to the
icemage Azzul. Nighden burned inside like a forgefire but outwardly he held it together
as he thought of the words Lord Destuvius had left with him when he had discovered his
Lord's Shrine.

Then the unexpected happened when a voice from the shadows offered Nighden council
about the political actions in the Black sect. Nighden listened to the wisdom that
poured from the anonymous source and it qwelled his burning. The voice spoke of things
like this as opportunities and that greatness is not given by title but earned by action.
It is fair to point out that at this moment the voice also mentioned that title does give
rise to it's own power however.

Nighden then struck down a fierce berserker giant called Bludel as he tried to strike at
the Citadel, gaining his position again. The voice then congratulated Nighden and as it
did so, Gedunthos stepped from the shadows and acknowledged Nighden for his work.

Pride rose up within him and he thought he finnally understood a little more about what
means to be Destuvian. He would seek out his Lord's audiance in the coming days.

The Imperial Mint

Added Mon Nov 25 14:03:38 2013 at level 41:
Nighden was blessed with the company and words of the High Destuvius
when he paid homage at his shrine. He spoke of the many people of
Thera being like the coins we use to pay and how the Destuvians were
the gold and worth so many more of the others.

He went on to describe how the coin is binding and how all who come to
use it agree to its worth and the worth compared to other things. This
gave him the idea of creating an Imperial Mint in the name of the Lord
Destuvius and his Emperors of the ages. Eternal in their legacy as their
likeness is emblazoned on the Gold Imperial coins.

Lord Destuvius questioned Nighden some more on the value of it and
Nighden put forth that if it can be done and all coins of the realm are
minted or reprinted in the Imperial Mint that all of Thera, in some way,
falls under our dominion in the use of it, bound by it to the Empire.
even despite those that would try to fight against it.

Nighden has shared his goal with his oath Sargrm and the human to use
their ideas and possibly make this a reality.

The Rising

Added Sun Dec 15 06:33:19 2013 at level 49:
Nighden has watched as many have come and risen ahead of him, at times with resentment.
Even a closer companion like Saguintius caused him some irritation but Nighden knew he
was away at times, working on gathering funds for the Imperial Mint. He sees now the time
he needs to give to the cause on the battlefront is as great as the time behind the scenes
and now seeks, with a full heart, to be placed above all other Warlocks as Dreadlord.

Nighden has risen in the guild of late to help strengthen his cause but it has come at its
own costs. He did loan Saguintius his Khalghaver club and it was not returned through some
stupid action of the Cabarael. Nighden has little time for that Black and will be hawkish
in his watching of him. He also suffered his biggest loss to date as 20 souls were taken
from him by a combination of Nightreaver, Andira and Dia's thirst to lash instead of pray
to her Goddess. He thought it would crush his will to continue but it has not but he was
proud to say out loud that he hates Andira with a greater passion than he thought he could
contain in his chest for her luck seems greater than most....to the point of having some
young thief gather Nighden's souls as the iron that contained them burned her skin.

Well Nighden plans to do more than just burn her skin.
