Description
.
You notice a saurian standing before you. Its scales, resembling polished
ivory, are tightly packed and create a captivating design akin to human
hair along its head. The creature's complexion, a warm tan, is adorned with
delicate wrinkles that contour its eyes and mouth. Its attire, though
simple, exudes a sense of careful maintenance, with the gentle fray at its
edges hinting at a life well-lived. Adorning its neck is a weathered tooth,
suspended by a faded brown cord. Despite its initial unsettling appearance,
the creature manages to radiate an aura of approachability, perhaps even
friendliness.

<Backstory / Origin>

* Nithenoel was found as a young hatchling by a Darsylonian raiding party
in the Valley of Veran in an abandoned lab, surrounded by corpses of failed
experiments and shells of cracked saurian eggs.
* He was not deemed sentient at first and was taken back to Darsylon as a
pet and handed to the Paladin Guild.
* Named Nithenoel Quirel, he showed little ability to wield a sword or a
polearm and was handed to the Healer Guild for apprenticeship.
* Despite the efforts and kindness of the elves, Nithenoel did not fit in
(and in retrospect was even shunned by the elves).
* Nithenoel was obssessed with nature and the cycle of life and death,
spending most of his days in the valleys surrounding the elven capital,
picking up every seed, root or tuber and seeing if it would grow or
blossom.
* He would frequently re-appear back in Darsylon at night, covered in dirt
and leaves scaring children and even making the guards anxious.
* Nithenoel became aloof and reclusive. The elder elves were so concerned
and distressed about the situation that they sent a delegation to Ysigrath
and summoned a priest of Sra - Seraphina Nightspark - to oversee the
training of young Nithenoel Quirel.
<Philosophy: Sra and Weh: Generally>
Added Thu Mar 28 18:28:53 2024 at level 17:
Seraphina's guidance led Nithenoel to unveil the intricate tapestry of
existence, where he began to understand his connection to the primal forces
that governed Life and Death in Thera.
According to Seraphina, these forces were encapsulated in the dual essence
of Sra and Weh.
Sra, the embodiment of Life, represented the vital energy that coursed
through every living being, binding them to the world's vibrant pulse.
Nithenoel learned to harness and channel this Life force, allowing him to
mend injuries and heal wounds with a touch that seemed almost magical. His
mastery of Sra's energy illuminated the path to his own vitality and
unlocked his potential as a skilled healer.
Conversely, Weh symbolized the inexorable descent into the embrace of
Death, the transition from one state of existence to another. Seraphina
guided Nithenoel in understanding this delicate balance, emphasizing the
importance of respecting the natural cycle of Life and Death. Through this
wisdom, Nithenoel's fear of death transformed into a profound reverence for
the sanctity of Life.
As Nithenoel delved deeper into Seraphina's teachings, he found that the
harmony between Sra and Weh was not a simple dichotomy but a complex
interplay, where each element contained traces of the other. Without one
could not be another.
<Philosophy: Sra and Weh: The Veil and the Centaur Mother>
Added Thu Mar 28 18:44:35 2024 at level 18:
The Veil, which is customarily known as a barrier between the destructive
planes of Magic and the constructive plane of Thera, has much meaning to
the intricate workings of Sra and Weh. It keeps Sra and Weh in balance,
separating the two and not infringing on one another. When Sra is weak,
Weh is strong, and vice versa. To tilt the Veil one way or another, one
must bring to it the artifacts of Life or Death. Feeding the Veil the
artifacts of Life strengthens Death, feeding the Veil the artifacts of
Death strengthens Life. It is a cardinal sin, in the eyes of Nithenoel, to
bring artifacts with gold aura to the Veil - only those shining with angry
red can (and should) be fed to it.
Another way to tilt the forces of Sra and to postpone the decay of Weh is
to plant the seeds and watch them sprout - quite literally. Planting life
and watching it flourish empowers the forces of Sra and weakens the
influence of Weh. But one must be careful and constantly tend to the seeds
and sproutlings - if they all bloom at once without fresh ones to follow,
Weh will cease the day and will push the spark of Sra into a corner.
...
Sages whisper of a recent coming of Centaur Mother and her daughter
"sproutlings" who have pushed the decay of Weh into the distant depth of
the Inferno itself.
<Philosophy: Sra and Weh: The Veil's Bowstring and Eurydais the Composer>
Added Thu Apr 4 17:50:38 2024 at level 47:
Much discussion so far has been devoted to the two sides of the Veil - the
Sra and the Weh, and how to empower one and weaken the other. But has
anyone ever wondered what the actual Veil is? Having met Eurydais the
that Eurydais has!
It appears that the Veil itself is a bow string and it is this bow string
that keeps Sra in the realm of Sra and Weh in the realm of Weh. Every time
an artifact of power is given to the Veil or destroyed by Blacksmith
Tahren, the bow string strikes a chord (or makes a chime). Constantly
shifting the Veil can even create a melody of sorts. From my discussions
with Eurydais, the chords or chimes are very faint but they are distinct
and heard by those who are particularly attuned to the Veil. She often
hears this music and finds it intriguing! The chimes and chords are never
the same and vary from person to person - each Veil tender (or render) thus
has their own unique musical footprint!
<The Last Bastion of Sra and the Elven Vaults>
Added Wed Apr 17 13:26:52 2024 at level 51:
The Fortress will undoubtedly remain the last Bastion of Sra when the decay
of Weh overwhelms Thera. And while I would like to think that this time
will not come during my lifetime, I must nonetheless prepare a safe place
for the seedlings - the motes of Sra - to survive the inevitable age of
darkness and decay. As long as the brilliant orb is safe, the seedlings
will flourish, but once the orb is taken and locked up - another place must
be found (an additional hiding spot) to preserve the potential for life to
re-emerge. The Imperial forces of late have gathered a large army, almost
too large, so the Elven Vaults have proved to be invaluable in stashing
away seeds and pods of Sra away from their eyes. Just like the elves of
Darsylon once took me in, I believe the elves who guard the Vaults will do
a fine job preserving the next generation of life.
<The Totem inside Sennoseri's Temple>
Added Wed Apr 17 13:29:08 2024 at level 51:
Resting on the other side of the Sycamore Tree, I cannot help but notice,
within the hollow of its roots, a totem. It depicts many dark things - the
Imperial Codex, the unholy knights, the undead and nightwalkers. But to my
surprise it also shows a dwarf standing side-by-side with an orc. A knocked
arrow leaves little room for interpretation - whoever depicted the dwarves
saw them akin to orcs and others with blackened hearts.
There are so many questions I wish to ask the Centaur Mother and Eurydais -
I've become to know the dwarves as craftsmen and in many cases the very
foundation on which the Bastion of Sra stands, how could they be standing
next to the orc? And what of the azure kin, would the Centaur Mother ever
accept them in Her herd? And does it mean I must expel them from mine? A
burning question that I must discuss with the Centaur Mother and Eurydais.
