Description

A foul stench of urin and sweat reeks from the duergar that stands in front of you. He is around four and half feet tall with a long unkept black beard which reaches past his massive chest down to his belly. His nose has clearly been broken more than once and there are several other scars on his face where his ebony colored skin shines through the thick beard. You notice several tattoos on his right forearm. A sword scabbard is strapped to his left tigh and a large body shield is hanging over his shoulder.

Role

To the surface of Thera

The sweet pain coming from the hot air of the forge made Njaal grin with pleasure. The
darkened mithril rod was lying blazing red among the coal. He grabbed the rod by its handle and turned
slowly towards the dwarf who was chained against the wall. Guttural sounds coming from the
dwarven prisoner made Njaal smile even broader. There was nothing left to extract from this
paladin. For a week the dwarf had lasted, but now all he ever knew was told and his tounge
had been cut out last night. It was just the pleasant finish of his work left. Slowly walking
towards his victim Njaal thanked his Lord for blessing him with such a rewarding task.

Njaal Hedingsblot soon showed extraordinary gifts in his fathers profession as torturer. For
many years he used his gifts for Aran Gird and his race. Yet the limitation of his king's plans
and the chaos that he saw in his city made him grow restless. He knew there could be so much
more to life than mithril and slaying dwarves. From his prisoners he had heard the truth about
the surface of Thera. How an Empire was rising to shape all of Thera. It was something that
would outlast himself and Aran Gird. He would venture to the surface to make the path clear
among the mortals for his Lord. The dream should be forfilled.

Tales from the first years on Thera's surface.

Escaping the horrors of the Abandoned mines with his life intact was not a surprise to Njaal.
He knew that Lord Khasothola`s presence was everywhere and it was his guidance that made
his journey to the surface possible. Seing the sun for the first time in his life was not enough
to halt his journey, because he knew that his mortal life was short and much work was yet to
be done.
The next years were eventfull for Njaal. He had the honor of being granted new powers by
Lord Khasotholas while kneeling at his throne north of Balator. His Lord was allknowing and
had foreseen the young priests journey to the surface. Njaal was inspired that such a powerfull
God took time to speak with him. There was no way his dedication and faith would falter in
the times to come. If possible it would only grow stronger.
He fought elves from the cursed city of Darsylon and was blessed by his Lord while
slaughtering infidel dwarves in the halls of King Kirgni in Akan. His powers grew and the
imperial priest Orbelias gladly took his oath to strengthen the Empire. This was just the
beginning of the journey.

The fundament

Added Thu Jan 8 12:36:56 2004 at level 51:
Many years went by while Njaal travelled the land destroying enemies of his Lord and the
Empire. He fought the storm giants on Mount Kiadana for so many years that he is aware of
all their hiding places and weaknesses. Many of his enemies fell for the power granted to him
by Lord Khasotholas. Yet Njaal controlled his lust for blood. He knew that it was more
important to plan for the future. The pleasure of slaying a fool would just last for hours, but
the usefullness of the same fool could last for years. It is much better to let them live and
serve his Lord. Slowly he builded up a network of allies from all races and trades in Thera.
Good preparations are half the work, and now he had a solid fundament for the work ahead of
him. A few tried to stand against him, but they died learning that there is dark and cruel side
that few see. Those who would not listen to wisdom were put to death.

His power within the Empire grew steadily by doing favors to the blades and blacks while
reminding them that one day his favors should be repayed. To many of them were to greedy
for trinkets and personal gain for his taste, but they had to do for now. The agressive and not
to smart minotaur Varik created a war with the magic hating barbarians. Njaal thought it was
not time for such a war yet as there was still resistance in the Fortress and Grove. We should
not drain our resources to much before we had totally crushed the resistance on the fronts
there already was battle. However this turn of events made it possible for Njaal to conspire for
the position as high priest. He would lead the divine sect into the new era. As he saw it there
was none better suited among the divine to lead the Empire to greater glory.
