Description

A rather short creature of about five feet is somewhat stocky, not overly, but with some extra weight behind her. Her strangely blue eyes are filled with some emotion, the intensity of which is almost burning through. Her black hair is cut short, as if not to hinder her movements. Her other features are rather usual, if not for a small hint of a faded tattoo on her arm and forehead.

Role

The allure of power

As Nuerria grew up in the conniving surroundings of Arkham,
she lusted for more personal power, thus employing the resources
of the shapeshifter guild, seeking to advance her body beyond
the mere small human shell it was. For she was born rather
on the little side, even for a human there was nothing special.
After partaking in the studies some, there was a sweet-talking
recruit that came to town, promising riches and glory if only
one would sign here and here and become a so-called citizen 
in the so-called Empire. 

That sounded perfect to the young shapeshifter without friends,
thus she decided to indeed sign here and here.
Excitement turned very sour as she arrived to the Imperial lands.
The promises turned out to be very false in reality. 
Everyone expected the young female citizen to serve them, and serve them well.
That in addition to them expecting large sums of money to be somehow
acquired and donated both directly to the coffers, but also personally
to anyone with any standing within the so-called Empire.

That did not sit well with Nuerria, who after many advances, straight
out rejected the notion that somehow her body is owned by the Blademaster,
causing him to become quite made and Anathemize her.
Just as well, for she grew very tired of the whole deal.

The power for her must come from someplace else.
And it will come. Her inner strength should overcome the obstacles.

The Chasm

As she traveled the lands more and more, Nuerria has become convinced
that the dark scholars of the pit would provide her the best balance
of power and a respite from the constant bother of the lesser people.

They study dark arts, to be sure, but that suits Nuerria just fine.
To progress more in her lust for more knowledge and new shapes to study
should put her well on the path of the successful survival in the world.

Born to live in the shadows

As Nuerria flew around Thera, watching from the skies, observing,
it became quite clear to her that the only way to win, to power,
is to draw power not from this world, but from that of the Shadow.

The first step of becoming a Scion achieved, that, unfortunately,
did not provide her with the ability to use the Shadow's strength, 
as it turned out that the chasm was cut off from the source of its power.
Now the task begins of restoring that power or, indeed, unleashing the
Shadow upon the accursed lands that seem to have forgotten it.

Foreswearing her former name, she resolved to call herself Shadowborn.

The Sacrifice

The faint whisper grew restless, still outside the realm of hearing.
Nuerria shifted into a parrot, heightening her perception in the hope
of hearing the Shadow reach her, as it was clearly trying to do.

Finally, the words could be made out, if faintly. Now trained on her
specifically, a sacrifice was demanded, with specific instructions on
what to do on a resulting corpse. Hoping her memory serves her well, 
Nuerria set out to make a fresh corpse required for the ritual.

Unfortunately, the four marans were saved by an acolyte she couldn't punish
for the interference, and the body search proved beyond her abilities.
However, the need for the fresh corpse still remained.

Putting the needs of the Shadow before herself, she did the only
thing possible under the circumstances, which is to defile a cross
at a graveyard with her own body, making specific cuts and a 
pentagram to open the mighty portal. Finally, her essense 
imbued the flow of the Shadow, with the body serving as the vessel.
That it was separated from her spirit was of little consequence.

In a very unfortunate set of circumstances, the powerful Light and 
foolish Light mage Andira managed to close the portal. 
But it was not all in vain, for the fool died for her troubles,
never to be seen again. And the faint traces of the Shadow infused
Nuerria with the newfound ability to shift into a venomous cobra.
She shall continue to strike the fear of Shadow into all,
and she will never forget the touch of the Shadow upon her.

The lone Scion until the end

Years and decades have passed, with the scepter devoid of power
and the power of the Shadow forgotten on this plane. 
Defending the Archmage alone in all those years, I have grown fond of the man,
standing there in a chasm, defending the scepter until his last breath even
though it stopped channeling any power whatsoever. 

It is that relationship that Davarrah of the Coven tried to break, perhaps 
to laugh with glee and relish in the last mortal breaking ties with the Archmage,
when she proposed that she'd show me to the Shadow Plane if I got her the Scepter.
Could not bring myself to kill Archmage, my one and only friend for decades. 
In the end, it was moot anyway, as perhaps she has conspired to boulder up
the place anyhow, erasing the last memory of the Chasm from Thera.

I shall need to find the way to restore the full terror of the Shadow to these
accursed lands, lest all forget the true Power.

Shadow is coming

Nuerria could not sleep well lately. Especially during the night, she
was startled by nothing, a hint of a sound in the night maybe. 
She quickly turned into the cobra with heightened senses, but could
see or feel no presence anywhere around her. Still, she awoke in 
cold sweat, for reasons she could not decipher until the Visions.

They started innocently enough, as recollections at first, of 
her lonely life in the chasm, of the old Archmage, of the Scepter
that had no power. Only that it did have dark power within the Visions.
More and more, the Visions concentrated on the utterly dark yet
somehow glowing, or, rather, emanating Ancient Scepter, until 
somehow drawing Nuerria in, to bask in its Power and Shadow.
A feeling of floating in nothingness and everything at the same time,
not seeing any material object, but sensing the whole world around her
with distinct clarity not even possible with the spider eyes. 

The Visions subsumed Nuerria, but she could not quite control them.
It is as if a far more powerful entity, incomprehensible yet
possessing a distinct will, directed the Night and the Shadow.
Never anything concrete, no sentient beings in the Visions,
no hint of what it all meant, no spoken or written word anyplace.
Until the night when the dream abruptly ended with very clear
words echoing in Nuerria's mind, somehow hammering inside her skull.

Shadow is coming.

The Presents to the Emperor

The ceremony at the inn was set, and the newest successor to
the meaningless throne was to be coronated and celebrated.

It was only fitting to present him with gifts of my own.
The Essense of Shadow itself, the Thin Sliver of Onyx, 
the power of which, enchanted by the Body of a child in a 
form of a Decorated Skull, will slowly suck his soul into
the Cloudy Soul Shard, unknown to him, but unevitably.

And when the time comes for him to leave his mortal shell behind,
there will be nothing of his soul left to transcend to the 
Unlife, thus leaving only an empty husk behind. 

The Shadow will subsume his being, as many before them.
