Description
A disheveled demi-human is here standing somewhat erect but slightly
hunched near his upper back. About his wiry frame are simple, dingy
robes that ooze a brownish green substance, likely muddy water. Some
of what protrudes from the robes appear to be handmade garments and
armor, rings and plain weaponry. Aside from the basic attire, that detracts
from his appearance, a moderately fit body supports his bulbous cranium
that sports large milky white eyes and an oversized nose that simply juts
from the middle of his face. On occasion he appears to be mumbling to
himself and at times even cocks his head or changes his gaze as if there
were others around.

Echoing, garbled echoes, as if sitting in a room full of people that were all
trying to speak at the same time but not quite as loud. A scant voice here,
half a phrase there, go this way, do that, you.. no.. yes.. this was not the
usual tone of the trips into the depths he was accustomed to. Many times he'd
been visiting the stone and listened to its voice's call. It led him safely
through many perilous excursions and almost always brought him back safe and
sound but this time there was something different, something more, an unsure
notion that things weren't right and they were about to change.
Ironically, this previous notion wasn't far off, in the least. Step after step
as he walked deeper into the cavernous depths, the voices grew both in
intensity and frequency. After what seemed like hours, it almost sounded like
a heated argument blasting near his ear but he kept walking, entranced by the
notion and curious as ever. He rapped at the cavern wall, where he heard the
loudest tones and all went quiet. It was haunting and frightening to suddenly
go from the sound of a room full of people to deafening silence. Then the
unexpected happened.
Where he'd knocked, a small crack began to form. It grew slowly, a peck here
and a jut there, and as it reached about three feet in length a small chip
dislodged and flew past his head. Smoke poured out, steamy and caustic. Then,
suddenly he was weightless as the crack tore away the surrounding wall and
floor. He fell and landed with a mighty thud, his eyes still stinging from the
smoke. Pain was the next sensation, oppressive heat gave notice that he was
yet alive and as he finally began to see again, he realized where he was.

He'd always heard that the dedication to the stone was of utmost importance and
the legends of Svirfneblin being molded from them were something to revere and
aspire to but these voices weren't just of the stone. They laughed together as
his broken and burning body stood up and cheered that he'd survived but when he
called back to them, again they went quiet. Then again the conversation began
but this time it was the stone as it explained, without words, of his kinship
with this demi-human, how they'd known one another and all the while, he sat
there in searing pain and listened.
The voice of the elements it was called, not a true voice but like an inner
voice that lived in one's head. After learning this he suddenly felt as if a
wave of euphoric enlightenment had washed over him and new knowledge was
welling up. Smoke and Magma now enlightened him of their presence and of this
he stood in awe, all the while slowly burning. These were para-elements and
they had entranced him. As his body finally begin to give out in this horrific
environment he made a silent vow not only to embrace the stone but to learn of
and revere the para-elements too.
As he appeared incorporeal in Upper Cragstone he knew that there was more than
just exploring and admiring the stone and he craved it. So, he decidedly
determined that he'd set out on an adventure but to do so, he'd need to join a
guild. The warriors craft was simple but needed brute strength, the healing
arts weren't for him either, but when he came to the shapeshifting guild it
donned on him that with this magic he could become like the para-elements
himself, an amalgam of man and magic and so he joined and embarked on his
journey.

Through fields, roads, rivers, and mountains he traveled. Inside the various
towns and inner divisions of cities he listened and followed. It was a time of
great learning, both within the guild of shapeshifting and of the surrounding
lands that make up his world. Having spent the majority of his time within the
caverns and naturally forming structures of the stone, it was mostly new and
exciting to him. He met many people and a large variety of creatures,
including the undead which he took a particular disinterest in but the
expedition seemed to be going well.
On a day much like any other, while passing through a famous inn, he happened
across a small conglomeration of folks telling tales. Before he even realized
what was happening, he found himself enjoying the little ditties and stories
being told. As he happened to look about, his eyes locked upon a jolly looking
fellow and low and behold, it was the Lucky Lord himself, Whiysdan. Never
before had he met a god and that certainly was intriguing but also awe
inspiring at the same time. This got him to thinking that there must be a lord
for his desires too, but was there?
His search took a days, then weeks, months, and even a few years, he spied in
all directions to any clues he could find amongst the towns and cities that
seem to populate the lands but it was naught. So, he went back to the stone
that he held so dear to ask for its help and that's when he noticed it. The
voices which had been so pronounced within his mind were now a far whisper from
their former glory and he began to wonder what was the matter. He'd call and
await the response and it was hard to hear but they said he'd been gone too
long, too long away from nature and the wonders of the wild.

How could this have happened, he wondered. Never before had the voices been so
faint, their presence been so hampered and solemn. This must be righted he
thought and began the arduous task of separating himself from the cities and
towns so he could once again begin to hear the voices that he'd held so dear.
They weren't all bad, he'd tell himself but then the thoughts of those hallowed
voices ceasing to call or even loosing that connection to them permanently
would spring up and set again the path going forward.
The first step that was in store was departing the cities and towns confines to
the best that he could, avoiding sleeping and resting in the inns and getting
back to the caves, forests, and wilds that he'd ventured through on his
journey. If he did pass through them, they were brief stints and mostly to
study, sometimes to hunt but not because of the perceived comfort because it
was that very lie that not so long ago began eroding his link with the elements
and had brought the voices to only faint whispers of their former selves.
Although he still felt the need to learn about these places, he began
developing a distaste for them and slowly regaining his more wilder past
experiences. With this renewed vigor his quest to find a lord like himself was
renewed and he discovered some stories about the Lord Jormyr, the lord of
para-elements himself. The bringer of storms, war, and destruction would be
his chosen patron and in the time to come, he looks forward to exploring his
magical endeavors to find him, learn more of him, and continue the path down
the wilds.
Chilling Times

For weeks he'd wandered the biting cold, felt it's chilling breeze seep deep
into his bones and watched in awe as his water skin froze and busted. It
almost felt as if he'd never warm up again but just as he was about to call an
end to the day, just when he could take no more and was aching for some
semblance of shelter, he took a last few steps before falling and finally
crawled into a hallowed ice cave to rest. Unbeknownst to him, he'd finally
found what he was long searching for and as he laid back against the frigid ice
wall, his eyes caught the faintest reflection of a passage.
Was it fate or an accident, whichever it was, it didn't matter to him. So much
time he'd spent searching and finally he found the convergence of lord Jormyr.
Within it's cavernous spaces he found an elemental conglomeration like he'd
never seen before. He'd traversed the various elemental planes but this was
different than even them. Regardless, he sat and thought and contemplated
before giving his first prayers. He felt his heart quicken and rise as his
words reached for the heavens and his stubby little fingers, now warmed by his
rushing blood, felt cold as they touched the massive ice altar.
Although that day and some days later he's departed without hearing from his
lord, he's yet content and proud of his accomplishment in finding the lordly
home of Jormyr. One day he hopes he'll prove worthy enough to meet the master
of Para-Elements but until that day, his entrenched war with the Imperials,
Tribunals, and all enemies of Thar-Eris will rage. He ponders often as he
grows and thinks now that his magics are growing stronger, he hopes the
opportunities to prove his dedication to the elements will finally be at hand.
The Aquatic Realm
Added Sat May 2 09:01:14 2015 at level 47:
Long since the days of living in the depths of Thar-Eris has he wandered the
overside lands and slowly he's begun to master their lands and waterways. The
vast network of tributaries, creeks, streams, rivers and oceans have slowly
become his favorite places. He feels largely at home when upon or under any
watery domain. From the muck and brackish vile of some swamps to the jungle
bordered coastal wetlands, even delving deep into the crushing depths, all
matter of waters have become his friends.
Although he'll still find himself whispering with the rocks, dirt, and elements
of the land, the air doesn't seem to transmit their voices as well as the
strong presence of liquids. They echo and almost reverberate though his mind
when within them. Eddies, currents, waves, storms and typhoons all seem to
have a likeminded voice but each has their own tone to their opinions and
wisdom that they impart. The softer flowing currents of the depths is quiet
and strong and the eddies are high pitched and rushed but each has their merit
and bit of Thar-Eris to teach bout.
They've taught him some of the Sahaugin, the Kuo-Toa, Merfolk and various
denizens that lurk in the murky depths. He continues to search and learn of
these beings and the largely unexplored terrains of the watery world and
embraces the magics that he's learn to explore them. Whether he's taking the
swift and agile form of the dolphin, the laborious and large hippopotamus or
the rugged scaly exterior of the alligator, his experiences and love of
Thar-Eris and her waterways can not be denied and that's led him to take the
name "Undertow" because although he may not always be seen, that doesn't make
him any less dangerous.
Underbeast

"Undersider", "undersider", the words slowly reverberate through his head,
pulling him further into the depths. Like a slow rumbling like a muffled growl
of some sinister creature. Down into the darkness he strode, carefully and
cautiously, one small step at a time, feeling the cool, clammy wall and using
it to guide his path. Before he'd went after the voices and they'd led him to
the scalding magma and stinging smoke but this was different.
After following the distant call for what could only be described as an
eternity, he realized that his hands were no longer grasping the walls, his
feet moved a little more easily, and his sight once again began to focus. But,
unlike peering through his milky-white eyes, it wasn't the same. The images
formed in pulses, growing brighter and dimmer with the rising and falling of
the voice, with his steps, even his breath. He began to recognize the
sensation, it was similar to what he'd experienced in the water.
As a dolphin he can swim swiftly, move quickly, and track efficiently.
Tracking through water is difficult but being able to see through sound is the
greatest strength. The elemental spirits have indulged him and exchanged a
land based change for another great beast knowing this talent. This change
adapted his body of the underside beast, the hook horror, and he now makes it
his own, to slash with large claws, shrug off some sharp paws, and see in even
the darkest throws.
