Description
The hulking giantess before you has a pronounced stoop, almost a hunchback,
but it is her huge muscles that pull her body into this shape. She moves
ponderously, but with force that appears nigh on irisistable.
Under her helm, a mane of dull dark orange hair emerges, tracking
down her back more than falling freely upon her shoulders. Charcoal
skin seems to absorb the nearby light, and her glowering red eyes
add to a menacing effect.
Her armor is heavy, but of some quality. Her weapons much the
same. About her flows a cloak that lends her an air of mystery and,
oddly, grace, despite her massive form and her solid boots.
Role
The little svirf
Added Tue Nov 5 05:29:07 2019 at level 11:
The little svirf was always breaking things. Occasionally by design, when
trying to deconstruct and reconstruct a toy, but sometimes through bad
luck, through clumsiness, or through inattention. It wasn't really her fault.
She was just born under an unfortunate set of stars.
Even though it wasn't her fault, her parents struggled to cope. The
family statuette business, many of which found themselves sold to the Academy
and then hoarded by a veteran who worked there, was suffering greatly because of
the repeated breakages. So when a human mage stopped by, and offered to take their
daughter on as an apprentice, they agreed, torn between relief, shame, and
grief at having to give their daughter up. They consoled themselves with the
knowledge that being apprenticed to a mage should set her up with a good future.
Unfortunately, it wasn't that kind of mage that she left with. And she
wasn't so much an apprentice as an ingredient for an experiment. Strapped to a
small table, the copper wires that were attached to her ran through a wicked
looking set-up before descending to a huge table, upon which was strapped an equally
unfortunate fire giant. Or perhaps, an even more unfortunate fire giant.
The mage consulted his notes on the previous experiments, before sighing and pulling
a lever that activated his apparatus. "I suppose I can always replace them", he grumbled.
His aim, though he'd not spoken of it to anyone, was to enhance the intellect of the
fire giant, to enable him to have brawny minions who could effectively serve in
more than a guard capacity. Unfortunately, it soon became clear that the fire giant was
fried by the energy from the magical device. Its orange hair reeked badly as
it smouldered. At least, thought the mage, fire giant hair doesn't pose a fire risk.
To be continued in next chapter...
But what of our little svirf girl?
Added Tue Nov 5 05:50:40 2019 at level 11:
The little svirf girl didn't seem to have fared much better. She was still
breathing, but her eyes had taken on a vacant expression, and she was not
responding to stimuli. The mage muttered, tossed the girl out the window into a bin
full of other experimental subjects, and let in his dogs to eat the fire giant, thus
making the larger body easier to dispose of later. He turned to make some more notes,
and hopefully we won't be hearing more of him, for his studies as an
artificier were really very gruesome.
In the bin, meanwhile, the little girl started to recover her wits. Or most
of them, that is. For some were not coming back after having been transmitted
by the apparatus. She moved the bodies already in the bin she occupied, and clambered
up them, to make her escape. But there was to be no escape, for her tiny hands were
still a fair length short of the rim of the bin, the gap bigger than she could close
with a jump. Exhausting herself with jumps nonetheless, she slumped back down
whimpering, and soon fell asleep, dreaming of pain, noise, and heat.
She woke a few hours later, resigned to her fate. But as she stood to alleviate
the discomfort of her awkward position, she noticed that the top of the
bin seemed much closer than before. She stretched up and got a good grasp, wonderingly,
before heaving herself out and over. She fell to the ground with quite a
thump, making her notice that she was a fair bit bigger than was normal. It
surprised her that she'd been able to lift her weight so easily when escaping.
She felt a burning anger at what she'd been through, and pounded at the bin in
a rage, leaving fist-shaped dents of ever increasing size as she did so.
Finally, she picked up the bin, contents and all, and hurled it back through the window
she'd been thrown out of, then hurriedly stalked off, before the wizard
discovered the mess of his laboratory, and came after her.
Fending for herself was easier than one might expect, for she kept growing in size
and strength. It seemed that as some of her wits were transferred into the inadequate brain
of the fire giant, its brawn was transferred into her. And perhaps, pushed out by
her wits, its instincts seemed to transfer to her too. Not something to
reflect on though, for it was dinner time. She smashed her meaty fist down on a stray dog,
tore off a haunch, and took the edge off her hunger.
As the years passed, she started to feel that mere survival wasn't enough.
She wanted to lash out at the world that had put her through this. The
wicked magi who experimented on her, but no less, the do-gooders who spat
upon her now very hairy body, oft times threatening her with curses and weapons.
She approached the anti-paladin guild in Udgaard (home of the mage), as she'd
seen fire giants going in there before, and the ensuing noises made her sure
that she could become stronger in there. To crush others, you needed to

be strongest. To be weaker, is to be crushed. Deep down, something within her
knew this, though she herself had never been told. It came to her every
time she closed her eyes, and felt the heat of the volcano.
Behaviour
Added Tue Nov 5 05:58:10 2019 at level 11:
Doesn't like anyone. But has enough cunning to know that to crush some
will require the impression of friendliness and trustworthiness. She therefore
obeys the law and keeps promises... right up until the moment she can seal victory.
This means that she would quite willingly join the spire, or empire, despite
a lack of belief in their systems and causes. She's heard that a Magistrate of her
guild has ammassed considerable power, and thinks that appearing an ally might
be the best route to get her hands on it
Betrayal is a tool, just like anything else. She will betray if it suits her to.
She is cunning. She has no true concept of fear, but she knows that gaining
enough strength to crush everyone is not easy, and if you don't choose your
battles wisely, you will end your life weak, not strong.
She likes the taste of dogs. If she passes one, she'll probably stop and
eat it, even if it annoys people around her.
She does not like artificiers. If she sees one, she will put them high on her list
of those to crush first. And since she's not as clever as she once was, being high on her
list is about the only place to be that actually means anything.
speech
Added Thu Nov 14 04:55:05 2019 at level 23:
Her transformation badly damaged her speech capabilities. The result was the
combination of the blunt speech of a fire giant, and the speech of a child, for her
mind was in trauma. However, with continued exposure to others with better
speech, her language will gradually change towards being just blunt, and not
that of a child.
Expanding tastes
Added Tue Nov 26 15:34:02 2019 at level 32:
Osalia loves dog meat. It's on her mind a lot, and her
allies of convenience probably tire of hearing about it.
As she becomes more worldly though, and
more capable with weapons and dark magic, her growing
confidence in her newfound strength is causing her
to contemplate more unusual meats. Those of the
sentient races. For now, she preys on those far from safety.
However, if the taste appeals to her, she may find herself unable to
resist eating her allies once they have served their purpose.
