Description
Long, shaggy white hair hangs down around the shoulders of this young
cloud giant. It looks relatively clean, but you suspect it hasn't been
combed in a good while. He has dark gray skin which, coupled with his
generous musculature and sharp features give him the distinct impression
of having been chiseled out of stone itself. He wears a mustache and
beard, wild and tangled like the rest of his hair, with the beard twisted
into a few points beneath his chin. Across his back is a largish sword,
which you very much suspect he knows how to use.

"Would Oshinohe kill Loke's soldiers? Soldiers who kill Shino's
parents," asked Berfalias?
The two giants had just finished another sparring session. Having
exhausted his student physically, the old Master of Arms turned his
attention to matters of philosophy.
"Shino would kill. Loke's soldiers, Loke's captains, Loke's generals.
Even Loke. Shino would kill until no jaettes left to kill."
The poor boy had lost his parents when they were ambushed by an
Udgaardian patrol. They took plenty with them, but in the end the jaettes
were many and they only two.
"Then Seraleth teach Oshinohe nothing," muttered the Master of Arms. He
had expected this answer, of course, but it disappointed him nonetheless.
Oshinohe growled deep in his throat, clearly wounded by the other's
words. "Berfalias would deny Shino vengeance? Why teach sword and fist
if not want Shino fight?"
Berfalias said nothing for a time. Silently he went about removing his
armor and stowing it in the usual places. Oshinohe fumed. Naked at last,
the older man slipped into the hot spring and acknowledged his student.
"Berfalias not keep Oshinohe from fighting. Not keep from vengeance.
Berfalias just not want to see Shino become that which Shino want kill.
Meditate on that; spar more tomorrow."
From such humble beginnings, then, did Oshinohe's enlightenment begin.
background
Added Fri Jan 4 22:41:47 2008 at level 6:
Oshinohe was born and raised in the cloud giant village northwest of
Udgaard. While he was still young his parents were slain by a detachment
of soldiers from Udgaard. As the boy grew older and began to train as a
warrior, he became obsessed with avenging his parents and destroying those
who killed them. Not just the soldiers who committed the act; all of
Loke's soldiers. Loke himself. Udgard itself. He craved blood.
As an orphan, his care fell primarily to the Master of Arms, Berfalias,
and Seraleth, the village Priestess. These two became to him surrogate
father and mother. As such, they attempted to instill in him the values
taught by Seraleth's faith, which was a sort of primitive animism. Its
chief teaching was that every living thing in Thera is imbued with a
certain "spirit". Not the sort of personal spirit one can talk to or
interact with, but a sort of "essential nature".
Creation was seen to be populated by all sorts of living beings, each of
which inevitably acted in accordance with its inner nature. The sons of
Kiadana revel in destruction and prey upon the weak. That is their
nature. The eldar of Daryslon strive to preserve life and defend the
helpless. That is their nature. Both are part of creation and coexist as
part of an ancient equilibrim.
Over time, Oshin ohe came to follow this faith. As he did, his desire to
wipe out the jaette gradually melted away. He still wanted vengeance for
his parents' murder, and he still greatly wished to rid the mountains of
Loke's soldiers, but the irrational hatred he had harbored was no longer
there. The various Theran cabals also began to take on a new light. In
essence, each sought the complete victory of a particular ideal, and in so
doing sought to disrupt creation.
The Empire sought to impose Order in all corners of Thera, destroying the
wild places and taming the wild things. The followers of Thar-Eris sought
the exact opposite, endeavoring to destroy the cities and Order men had
created. The Maran fought to destroy darkness in the land; the Scion
sought to shroud the land in darkness. Oshinohe wasn't sure what he could
do about any of this, but he was fairly certain he couldn't do it if he
sat around in the village until old and gray...
