Description

A lean, youthful male felar is here, tail twitching erratically like an independant creature and not an appendage. His fur is brick brown, mottled with russet and grey in a manner reminiscent of dying embers in a bed of ash. Although unopposing, he moves with an uncanny grace and deliberation, as though he stalks instead of walking, and ready to pounce even when standing flatpawed. Golden orbs gaze boldly out from above a broad nose replete with huge, flaring nostrils that never cease their investigation.

Ouli's first memory is of the dark dungeon cage in which his litter was kept
in between being taken out, one at a time, to serve as subjects for the
Alchemist's experiments. They were purchased, as were all the animals in the
wizard's menagerie, so that he could test his foul potions  and spells as he
fine tuned the recipes and incantations, and the unintended results of his
mistakes were often painful, sometimes even fatal. But never for Ouli or his
brothers or sisters. There were five of them in all, three felar and two fela
kits, and this was the only life they had known, sold into slavery shortly
after being weaned. 

The Alchemist wasted hundreds of gold's worth of reagents for his potions
before he realized something was going amiss when he tested them on Ouli and
his siblings. The results were never as intended, in fact, there were seldom
any results at all. When he tested his theory and found it proven true, that
somehow these felar were not affected by magic as were all his other slaves,
he grew black-tempered.

In anger, the wizard ordered the five felar kittens murdered, and his
hunch-backed servant silently did as he was bid, gathering them up into a
rough, filthy burlap sack, mewling in fear and pain as their claws found the
flesh of their litter mates instead of the cloth walls of their prison. But
the worse was yet to come.

The sickening lurch of moving through space, followed by the feeling of
weightlessness, and finally the icy shock of cold water, hot stifling space
replaced by numbing night waters of a rushing river.

This is Ouli's most clear and poignant memory. Of the moments that passed as
they all struggled to tear free from the thick burlap, tiny claws tangling in
the coarse fiber. Of how each, one by one, ceased their struggles around him
as the black that blinded his every sense closed over his frantic thoughts as
well.....

The barbaric looking man who slipped from the trees and into the water after
the sinking sack acted as quickly as he could, but he feared it was already
too late. Knowing only that what his enemy within the Tower wished to destroy
he wished to keep alive, the BattleRager who had been posted outside the
Alchemist's keep for the last fortnight dropped the sack on the bank and
sliced it open with his dirk, mouth set in a grim line as the sodden, still
forms spilled out onto the mud. All still but one. Ouli, tiny paws limp, head
lolling, miraculously twitched his tail.

The Lone Survivor's Youth as a Freelar

Wide, luminous eyes full of fear peered from within the damp rag that
encompassed the tiny, shivering form of Ouli. Following the movements of the
gruff man that smelled of hops and earth and blood as he moved about the
small cabin, between the table and the hearth, and the pot within. The pot
that smelled like the most delicious thing he had ever smelled. Yet despite
his growling stomach, the anger and fear and memory of the river remained
foremost in his mind.

It took a long while for Ouli to grow to trust Rud, as the man called
himself, but over time he grew used to the feeling of freedom. A subtle
depression remained, and a resentment, a burning desire to return to the keep
where he once was kept slave and kill the alchemist. Not just kill, but rip
out his throat, feel the warmth of his blood hot on his fur to counter the
memory of how cold the river felt. 

Rud, sensing Ouli's determination to strike back, did all he could to prepare
the felar so that he wouldn't die in the process. He trained Ouli with in the
use of weapons he knew, the quarterstaff and dirk, and although lacking any
real martial training, he was both creative and demanding as a taskmaster.
Running, diving, climbing trees, throwing blades,  carrying timber, and
endless drilling with staves until Ouli felt as though his arms would fall
off.

And, to Ruds surprise, Ouli soon surpassed his own mean martial ability. Not
only that, Oulis ability to never give up, work himself to exhaustion every
day only to rise again the next to continue training, was slightly worrisome.
was afraid that Ouli would go like an arrow to the keep of the powerful
alchemist, content to die in the process of avenging his litter.

So Rud gave Ouli focus. He spoke of the tales of the Village of Battleragers,
of the histories of the Chaos Wars, the founding, the tablet and the
breaking. Ouli knew nothing of his past before being imprisoned as a kit in
the alchemists keep, and so he clung to these stories like a kitten to a
teat, taking the histories as his own. In truth, Rud suspected that Ouli
likely had blood of those Betrayed by the Order Lords, the remnants of the
magic-immune army created to battle the chaos demons.   
What grew within Ouli was not a blind desire for revenge, but a sense of
purpose. Great guilt nestled within his furred felar breast, and to assuage
it he would devote himself completely to the destruction of all magic, not

Ouli would not be satisfied with one throat torn from his ex-captor. He would
take a thousand breaths for each of his littermates. And not stop until he
breathed his own last.
