Description
Before you is living proof that hardship early in life can leave visible
effect on the body. This female storm giant seems almost
desiccated to the point of having flesh that resembles moss-covered
jerky. With her ropey muscles and sharp bones straining her
paper-thin and splotchy green skin.
Her hair has been cut short, possibly with a dull knife, by
the amount of styling apparent.
Her eyes have a near frantic, hunted, squinting look as she
constantly keeps her gaze in motion. On the backs of her hands,
rippling with the tension with which she grasps the haft of her
weapon, are tattoo'd a short phrase, the same on each hand.
Never. Again.
Role
Slavery.

She has no memory of her birth name. No memory of her parents.
No memory of her early childhood before she was taken into slavery.
Her captors were a nomadic, desert tribe, and fanatically dedicated
to some religion she never bothere learning, other than to
understand that it gave them justification to keep,
and mistreat, slaves.
Her earliest memories are of sadness, because the only beings
she could count on for a sliver of kindness, other storm slaves,
had been sold, and she was alone to toil and suffer daily beatings.
She never even had a name. But her captors would call her
captors would yell at her in their course language 'ovn ahuesed',
which she knew meant "ugly bitch". And so that is the name she
gave to herself, when she was finally free and people asked her name.
Freedom

Her captor tribe was caught cheating another tribe. and that
tribe proved the stronger. During the fighting, she hid in her
master's tent, terrified...until something happened.
A shimmering lady appeared before her and spoke to her in her heart.
"You need not die. You need not stay a slave. Take up this burning
tent-pole, and defend yourself!"
She had never felt this before, what eminated from this lady...
there was pity, yes...but also judgment, judgment of her own weakness.
She will be forever thankful for that felt judgment, for without it
She never would have been shamed into action. She did pick up that
12 foot long tent pole, and with a wild abandon she kept all of the
evil people at bay....mostly. They did beat her horribly when theh
finally overwhelmed her, and left her for dead in the desert.
She has no memory of it, but her guildmaster says a stranger
dumped her on the doorstep of the guild, as she was near death, and
only willing to utter the words "Never. Again."
Flaws

She has become more sophisticated, and intellectually understands
that not everyone is her enemy, but this is not something that can
fix the ingrained physical reactions of fear and distrust that had
decades to take root during her captivity. Similarly, she
has an inate, physical, subconscious understanding that only
her own kind are even capable of not imposing pain and suffering.
She also suffers from wild swings of adrenaline whenever she is
in combat, as she is returned in her mind to all of the beatings, subconsciously
convinced that this time, she has to triumph, or the slavery will return.
Guilt
Added Thu Aug 26 17:45:56 2021 at level 6:
To this day, she is haunted by the memory of all of her fellow slaves
whom she was not strong or knowledgeable enough to rescue when she
made her stand. She is so terrified of failing like that again,
that she has dedicated her life...though she is no young woman...
to becoming strong enough to protect the innocent and the downtrodden.
She accepts, in her bones, that her unknown patroness is the
sole fount of any strength she has within her, and she is dedicated
in her entire being to that unknown benefactress...
But, even through her time in the guild, she can not shake from her
inner biases the conviction that all thkse who profess a strong
religious faith are to be, at best, cautiously tolerated.
For she still equates in her heart of hearts those who profess a
strong faith with the foul tribes who held her in bondage for so many years.
Politics, and religion.

She was not long into her training shen she realized that her
inate need to protect the innocent could lead her on two widely divergent
paths. The Spire or the Acolyte.
Each path forward, was also a path towards what she was learning
MIGHT be the unknown Lady who helped her, for the guildmaster told
her that she could have been Baerinika, or Ishuli...or a complete unknown.
At first, she was consumed with finding out the Identity of the unknown Lady.
But, as she grew in the guild, and began to walk her walk in the light,
she realized that it should not matter to her. The unknown could have
made herself known, had the Lady intended to be known.
Her understanding and belief is that she remained unknown in an effort to
continue the lesson of finding her own strength, her own steal in her heart.
The factor that decided her towards the Spire was in learning of some
of the recent history of both. She learned that for generations,
the Spire had been led by darkness. there were whole generations
who had lived and died, and known nothing but the impression that darkness
directed the Spire.
Here was a task worthy of her, that she could do beyond being some
sort of field medic, which is how she has come to see the Acolytes.
And so, she decided to pledgd herself, irrevocably, fo the dual task
of protecting the innocent via the Law, and to show Thera that such a
path is consistent with the highest ideals of the Light.
Public persona.

She is not a young woman anymore, and she considers herself to have
a fairly good control on the emotions she shows, partly for her need as
slave to hide her emotions at all costs or risk more beatings.
This, combined with her guild training has her convinced that she
must be unfailingly polite to everyone...
something tested when she was brought into the Spire and faced witb
the foulness of necromancers intent on trying to offend.
Due to her inate inability to trust, and her hidden fear that
her remembered beatings has instilled, she will become increasingly
formal in situations of unease and uncertainty, or when
forced to interact with those whom she finds intimidating.
If she ever finds someone with whom she can relax and let hed guard down,
she may drop the facade of propriety enough to let slip a rather
ribald sense of humor. But this may not happen due to her distrust of
others.
Patronage?
Added Sat Aug 28 12:47:47 2021 at level 17:
She suffers from more than a bit of imposters syndrome, where
she still feels like a worthless slave, worthy of nothing but beatings,
instead of the pillar of the Law and Light which she hopes to portray.
She is largely unconscious of this, however, other than a
conviction that any worth or steal that she has in her heart, is
an unearned gift from the Unknown Lady.
Though she has no natural or learned facility with scholarship,
She knows (fears) that she may lack the internal strength, fire, steal
and dedication to succeed in spending the rest of her life upholding the Law
and the Light.
And so she has resolved, when she can work herself up to it,
to seek out the Lady Ishuli.
Not to ask if she is the Unknown Lady, for she now knows that
question is irrelevant. But instead to ask if Ishuli might weigh and
Judge her soul...and then supply as gift all that is lacking within
herself in order to allow her to stand, the rest of her life,
for the Law and the Light.
Not for the sake of this lowly ugly bitch, but for the sake
of the Spire that Ishuli stands for as Patroness.
