Description
A pock marked, filth ridden, bug infested wretch of a dwarf stands before
you, its beady black eyes outlined with tell tale signs of infravision. His
armor is fairly typical of his kin, made of an assortment of dull and dingy
metals almost all of them in hammered out repeatedly. His height is typical
of most duergar, trying to break five feet and failing miserably at it. A
savage scowl makes this fellow's visage even less pleasing than his stench,
which is a burden unto itself. You notice a pair of swords strapped to his
back and a pair of wicked little maces at his side.
Role
Inept Son

Brutalizing others came easy to the fourth son of Baruut. Like father like
son most said, Pazux took after this father in almost all ways, save one.
Pazux was as dead to the source of mana as a prostitute is to decency, a fact
that was not lost on Pazux or on his siblings. It seems everything Pazux did
was to make up for that fact. He beat his younger brothers mercilessly day in
and day out, envious of their ability to follow in his father's footsteps.
Reputation is a funny thing, as Pazux developed one for being merciless, so
did he for being inept at the one thing that made his family stand out from
others. Pazux would never become a black knight, a prerequisite for following
in the family profession. No amount of savagery and pain inflicted on others
was going to change this fact, but it did not stop Pazux from trying. It
wasn't long before his family, his brothers and most of all his father were
sick of hearing about Pazux's latest atrocity. It wasn't the fact that Pazux
was killing and torturing people that bothered them, it was that he would
often ruin plans and destroy carefully cultivated relationships with his
violently angry outbursts.
As the years carried on Pazux's temper only got more and more wicked, he
started singling out other that had the gift that he lacked. Magicians and
priests alike felt his ire, while Pazux was never a bright one even he likely
knew the difference between a mage and a priest that was channeling their
god's power... he never seemed to care though. He took great pleasure in
relentless pursuit of his prey, who poor fellow was or what they did, didn't
quite matter to Pazux. The burning hatred that was constantly boiling in this
violent little juggernaut, just needed the smallest spark to ignite.. when it
did people died and it didn't quite matter who or why.
A party to end all parties

Hatred of magic was perhaps a poor choice of words, violently jealous perhaps
would have been a better description. This became all to obvious to all when
Pazux's elder brother donned the mantle of a death knight, after serving in
the anti-paladin guild for almost two centuries...Pazux's older brother had
learned enough sorcery and claimed enough blood to be given a chance at
unlife. Over the next several years Gnitte made careful preparation,
gathering the various relics and spells that would be necessary for a very
different form of becoming. With each milestone the family and his brother's
friends celebrated, at each celebration Pazux drank down a bitter concoction
of envy, anger and rage. Kept only in check by the fact that his father had a
favorite, and Pazux wasn't it. If Pazux went against the family, his father
and all the clan would rend him from gullet to groin.. perhaps more than once.
Thing about anger is that it often takes on a life of its own, it boils over
when you least suspect it.. and often at inconvenient times. The celebration
at the gathering of the final regent was the catalyst for an insane bout of
jealousy that changed the course of Pazux's life. Gnitte and his clan had just
claimed the final regent from the lair of a crazed sorecer named Kteng.
Celebrations like this were often a long affair, from the number of slave
girls that had been gathered, this one might last several days if not a week.
Pazux spent most of the time seething in rage, when he wasn't seething he was
dousing that burning pit in his stomach with the harshest spirits his kin
could muster up. As the celebration carried on Pazux and the rest of the
attendants repeated a cycle of drinking, feasting, debauchery and what can
only be described as a duergar version of power naps. Short bursts of deep
sleep that seemed almost catatonic in its nature, often it happened in small
groups.. people that were partying together would often pass out together for
a quick hour or two, only to snap awake all of a sudden with an urge to return
to the celebration. His brother's party was now on the 9th such cycle, night
and day is a concept of the surface dwellers.. but this was perhaps the 4th
day of celebration. Each passing cycle Pazux woke up hungrier and angrier,
seems like the longer the celebration continued the deeper Pazux drank from
the chalice of jealousy. It did not taken long for it to turn into a madness
that Pazux could no longer control, last cycle he had brutalized three
different slaves sending each to their grave in the most heinous way. This
cycle Pazux set upon his own brother and while most of his companions were
still long into their two hour nap, Pazux went to work on his brother. He was
still not done when others woke from their slumber to bear witness to the
horror that had visited Gnitte. A snarling Pazux sat atop his brother's
corpse, gnawing on the heart of his own brother.
Love and captivity in Aran'grid

What came next is, is somewhat unclear perhaps most of all to Parzux. Two
hundred fifty years of work undone, two hundred fifty years of scheming,
lying, cheating, killing... to get his eldest son on the brink of becoming..
all to see it undone by the inept son he should have killed at birth. That
was all that the old duergar Baruut could rant about. He must have made the
same rant in front of Pazux's cell at least a hundred times over the last
twenty or thirty years that Pazux spent locked up in a cell under his father's
personal dungeon. Merciful thing would have been to kill Pazux, but neither
the duergar nor his father were known for mercy. Some days he came in, and
lashed him to the verge of death... some days he just came in and slit Pazux's
throat. Only to have a priestess nurse him back to health so he could suffer
a worse fate the next day. Some days he'd come himself, some days he send
others to the work for him.. worst days was when his brother's widow would
come. She came with one purpose, punish.. sometime the punishment was direct
and took a surgical angle.. other times she would bring her minotaur slave for
his fun. In the last two decades Pazux had taken enough minotaur seed to
create a small bovine nation.. and this wasn't the worst of it.
Then one day... it all just stopped. For the next five years the only people
that visited his cell were the slaves that brought him food and when the smell
got bad enough... emptied his chamber pots. It was not a pleasant existence
but it was at least an existence... perhaps one that hardened Pazux more than
anything the last twenty years had done to him. Solitude is a terrible thing,
even to evil little dwarves like the duergar. When he had all but given up
home, his father came to him and offerend him a terrible bargain. One that
changed Pazux's life and the terrible course it seems to be running so far.
His father, harder than most duergar and just as calculating.. could care
less that his eldest was dead. He was furious about the investment that had
been ruined and it was the investment that he wished to be made whole on. His
father had personally witnessed his son's unbridled hatred and the rage that
drove him.. and it took him the last thirty years to come up with a way but
the craftly old duergar had done it just the same.
Carrot and the minotaur stick
Added Sun Oct 10 21:47:21 2021 at level 23:
His father had spent the better part of the last five years counting down to
the nearest copper, all the efforts he had spent getting his eldest into the
position from which father expected to profit. Not just the coin, but favors,
murders, bribes, threats, his father had put together a blood ledger for
Pazux. And step one was to go to the surface, away from the enemies and the
reputation he had built for himself. His father told him about BoltThrower
and others that hated magic as much or more than he did. Their unending war
and the perpetual chaos they wreaked on the surface above, among the ranks of
not just the magi, but the cabals and cities in general. Pazux would become
an agent of this chaos, the price of his freedom was to give into a constant
state of strife as a battlerager. Once Pazux had joined their ranks, he would
be an instrument of his father to use as he saw fit. The old duergar dangled
a carrot of freedom in front of duergar, while binding him to a life time of
servitude. If the Pazux turned him down, the only thing that would break the
perpetual solitude would be the visits from his sister-in-law's minotaur.
Faced with this choice, it was not surprising that Pazux took the carrot and
set upon the path ahead, one that took him to the surface. To make sure that
Pazux understood how serious his father was about their bargain, Pazux was
dragged kicking and screaming back to his cell three times. Each time into
the not so loving arms of his sister-in-law and her minotaur. His father
wanted Pazux to understand that no place would be safe for the duergar, if he
broke their deal. Last time was a full six months after arriving at the
surface, after having enlisted in the warrior's guild, his father's agents
still intercepted him and brought him home to remind him of the bargain.. and
of the minotaur.
About Pazux
Added Sun Oct 10 21:50:18 2021 at level 23:
Pazux wants only two things in life.. to unleash his anger on those that are
better than him and to never see that savage love machine ever again.
*Pazux hates the following things in a descending order, his brother (RIP),
other mages like his brother (anti-paladins), actual mages, anyone that looks
like a mage (basically anything wearing a robe is going to get attacked though
not with the same abandon as a mage is), priestesses and minotaurs.
*He has a soft spot for slaves for the last thirty years his only
interactions that weren't pure punishment were those with slaves. In a way he
see himself as a slave, so they are as close to a family as he has had for the
last three decades. If you are running around with a slave he is going to
attack you.
*He is terrified of being dragged back to his father, he treats any duergar
with extreme suspicion, if you are a duergar he will avoid you entirely. As
far as Pazux is concerned, you are either going to abduct him or are going to
report what he is doing back to dad.
