Description
The man before you is tall and slight of frame, clad in leather
and metal armor over which he wears a priestly cloak of
lightweight wool that hangs just past his knees. The cloak is
brilliantly pure white with a golden sun embroidered on the right
side, and the hood is thrown back to reveal golden hair grown just
long enough to be tucked behind his ears. His face is no longer
young, lined from both sorrows and laughter, but it retains all of
the handsomeness of his youth. There is a flute at his belt and a
fiddle in his hand, though the sword at his waist also appears
well-used and a sheathed dagger is strapped to his forearm. He has
a plain walking staff of oak, comfortable-looking boots, and a
bundle of books and journals slung over his shoulder.

Hitting the Road

On the eve of his initiation as a novice to the Temple of the Moon he
is in a darkened tavern, full of ale, playing a lute, and singing an
obscene song to a roaring crowd. Drinking alone at a table later, two
elven strangers pull up chairs. There are introductions, a long
conversation, and Perceminar learns many things, some of which he
already knew in his heart. He cannot become a grey priest in the
morning. He has the bardic gift, his songs are more than songs. And
the music he hears, which he is drawn to follow and sing, is real.

After his conversation with the elven strangers, after the tavern has
closed and darkened, Perceminar stands on the gravel street gazing at
the Temple of the Moon. It is still night, and he has gathered
supplies for a journey. Hearty bread, a simple sword, and a flute to
play. When he is not at the ceremony in the morning he hopes his
parents will understand.
The sky turns slightly grey as the dawn approaches, the color of the
robes the firstborn of his family has worn for generations. A warm
golden glow then begins to rise. Perceminar smiles, whistling a tune
as he shoulders his knapsack and steps lightly away.
Perceminar's Journal #1

Some days have passed and I now record my reflections on some
terrible events.
I was in my old hometown, Galadon, and I heard the Imperial
Empress cry out as she was attacked by a Villager. I ran through
the scene of the fight and I was struck as a bystander by an
iceball from the Empress. Moments later, the Tribunals Provost
asked me what occurred. I told what happened plainly, and must
admit I was pleased that an anti-paladin would be hunted by the
Blood Tribunal because of my words.
Later in the Fortress I felt growing unease. I thought on two
questions: Was it honesty or bloodthirst that moved me to speak
plainly to the Provost? And would I have plainly told the
Provost what happened if I witnessed a Maran attacking a tainted
one in the city? I know I would not.
After the Tribunal marked her for their version of justice, the
Empress came alone to the Fortress for me. I was summoned by
magic outside the walls, bewitched to sleep, and powerfully
afflicted. I awaited death. Then I heard her call out in alarm
as another Villager attacked her! I was awakened, and in the
melee the Empress was slain!
I thanked the Villager, who took more gold than I've ever seen
from the corpse and bade me farewell. Then, left with the body,
my wisdom failed me again. I took a powerful pair of gloves from
the corpse of the Empress for my own use.
In time the force of the Empire came to the Fortress, where I
waited alone. The Empress, the War Master, and a vicious
shapeshifter attacked. The Tarabal at the gates fell, then in a
final battle I fell by the Watcher. The Watcher was badly
wounded but not slain, and the imperials took only the Empress's
haunted gloves from my body.
Such wasteful bloodletting that day, the Tara'bal, the Watcher,
myself, even the dark Empress, all because of my pride and
greed...
A time will come again where I could choose to set wild violence
in motion against the enemies of the Light. If I am to be an
Acolyte, I must not do so. Violence unleashed cannot be
controlled. Let it remain in the hands of the Holy Brigade,
guided and guarded by the Golden Sun.

Acolyte
Added Sun Jan 18 16:10:15 2026 at level 51:
Now an Acolyte, Perceminar is finally grateful for the childhood
he spent training for the grey priesthood in Galadon. Though
that faith never spoke to him, he has found an untapped
wellspring of priestly know-how that he must have picked up in
those younger years and it strengthens him now. He muses that
even then as a child, sullenly sweeping chapel floors and
filling fonts, his life danced to the music of the Light. And he
wryly reflects on his bold choice to forever leave the path to
priesthood that morning long ago. Look at him now! He laughs
right along with the gods.
A Cardinal's Farewell

Siblings,
I must relate how pleased I am with the Squires and Scribes new
and old, and the continuing strength of the Golden Sun and the
Brigade. I was called here as a boy by a song I did not
understand at the time. I know now the song was the Light itself,
and it will play as long as the Fortress stands.
I have joined in the song myself, joyfully taking up the hymn, in
humble service as Scribe, Acolyte, and Cardinal. It has been my
life's work to hear this music and learn it. Now I know it as an
old friend, and I hear my part in it drawing to a close. Defend
the Light with my blessings until we meet again.
