Description

An odd and small male gnomish-appearing figure is here, and from his clothes and accessories you'd guess a mage as well. How typical. Still, with further inspection, little details start to make themselves known. Maybe it's the skin that skews away from the usual light brown into a decidedly paler shade of some kind of greenish tone. Most gnomes have big ears, and his ears are large, yet they are quite long and stick out and taper from large lobes into flopped over points, the lobes are pierced through with rings of copper and silver. His teeth, when he grins, appear shiny and white. He has a very warm smile, if a bit smirky and mischievous at times. His hands are long, his slim fingers end with thick yellow nails, almost like claws. Around his left wrist is a small bracelet carefully crafted from small bones that appear to have belonged to a gnome. He can be seen, at times, muttering to this bracelet and even laughing with it. His eyes are large and inquisitive, and nearly glow from the palpable aura of magic he has about him. The large eyes sparkle and seem alive with questionable intent, his beady pupils make him seem almost malicious. One might say an almost insatiable greed flashes from deep within those windows of the soul. This creature is clearly some sort of gnome/goblin hybrid. He hums with an unseen magical force more frequently than not and his overall demeanor marks him as quite content.

Role

Pininip: Half Gnome/Half Goblin, A Brief Overview

Added Sun May 10 08:37:46 2020 at level 1:
-His mother was a survivor of a goblin raid on a merchant caravan, riding
with her prestigious inventor husband to Darsylon to sell their wares.
-During the raid she was brutally raped, her husband killed.
-She was shamed and shunned for her condition and refusal to kill the baby growing within her
(she had no children due to her husbands infertility)
-Upon birth the creature that came out of her was repulsive and invoked role + great hatred from her very few friends.
-She tried for one year to raise the child, but it proved
too much for her and she quietly walked it into the forest and left it.

-His plight was observed by a mage of significant power who takes an interest
scrying for unusual oddities.
-He observed the child from a powerful tower. He waited until the point the child would have surely died by falling into a
deep creek and opened a planar rift, snatching the small creature before it
hit the water.
-He raised the child to be a creature of magic, a familiar of
sorts, channeling mana through the naturally latent vector of the gnome.
He knew the gnome/goblin would never reach full potential as any sort of outward
casting magi, but felt he could be trained from within. He taught him the
basics of shapeshifting.

-Pininip became addicted to magic during this process. The feeling of great
surges of mana pulled through his body was both exhilarating and powerful.
-He takes a great interest in channeling mana, he loves the feeling of being
able to cast even the most basic of spells.
-He was set free with the instructions of 'Go be interesting.'
-He will live a life dedicated to magic,
mana, and finding more for himself in an effort to chase the feeling he got
from vectoring for his mage parent.

Home Found

Added Thu May 14 12:07:44 2020 at level 51:
He is no longer a lost little gnome-goblin.

He was able to access his gnomish wisdom and intelligence and gain mastery
over several forms with the gifts of the wizard.

He still chases the rush and feelings of channeling magic and keeping a thin
veil, but he has difficulty given his choice of animals.

He has found that having friends is a great way to get the things he desires
and the magical objects he craves.

He was able to fly over an abandoned tower of magic that turned out to not be
so abandoned.

He was blocked from exploring its peaks and he knew it had to have vast
amounts of hidden magic within, so he pledged to the elemental outside and
later spoke to the recruiter of Entropy and gained the entry he sought.

He spends his time gathering things, working on his magic, researching old
magic, and trying to find different things that might channel magic.

He is a greedy little thing when it comes to magic, be it spells, items, or
attention.

RE: Shattering the Veil Contest

Added Mon May 18 07:59:52 2020 at level 51:
Pininip continues to chase the feelings of unlimited access you his mana reserves.
However, his forms limit him somewhat in his ability to do it alone. He brainstormed
multiple ways to manipulate others into feeding his own mana greed, and the world at large
with regards to the veil but had a lot of trouble.

He thought about things he could do to get others to participate in thinning the veil to free
the magic. He thought of ways maybe he could reward them, but then thought about again that
that didn't sound like a whole lot of fun for him.

Instead he devised a plan to hold a sham contest as a test to see how many people he could
get to satisfy their own greed for potential prizes thereby satisfying his greed for magic.

The contest itself is fake, he didn't consult with anyone in the heavens or anyone in the cabal.

He looks forward to enjoying his time in a thinner veiled world. A contest just seemed like too much
structure and work. He would rather rely on chaos and confusion to get the needs of magic in the world met.

As far as promised prizes? He is sure it will work itself out.

On Orcs and Updates

Added Sun May 31 14:53:12 2020 at level 51:
Pininip developed an early fascination of orcs. Perhaps it was something
inherent to his goblin half, but he always had a deep respect and admiration
of the creatures. Chaotic and tribal, a hierarchy based on pure power.
Something Pininip quickly began to make use of.

The orcs love Pininip. He buys their affections with shiny weapons and armor,
but mostly through brute strength as his alligator and cunning/swiftness of
his Eagle. Pininip loves spending time with the orcs, always with a loose
purpose of furthering his magical ambitions. They take the Battlerager Head
with him, the Imperial Codex, and the Scales of Justice. The Chief has told
his village to do whatever Pininip asks.

One thing Pininip does not allow is the Orcs to kill the Fortress while with
him. On more than one occasion he has saved the life of Kruissina, which has
agitated the orcs he was with, but not to the point of rage. Pininip also
enjoys working with the Fortress to bring down the Empire and evil
Outlanders.

Quanhest seems to have gotten Pininip confused with Vodette in the past and
stated her anger at him for him dispersing her. She also accused Pininip of
helping Targung kill her on the Open Sea when Pininip and her were fighting
Targung together and she died because she stuck around after Pininip flew off
near death. Pininip enjoyed spending time previously with Quanhest, but after
she stated her violent intentions towards Pininip he has accepted her
stupidity and fate and actively works against her. The same he does with
Narra the Chancellor. His first meeting with Narra was her trying to kill him
in the air with a Nightwalker and Druk'trar. He nearly killed Narra in that
encounter and ever since then he does not let her fly. Both Narra and
Quanhest have told him that he is doing the Tower a disservice by being
'chaotic stupid.' A term that makes no sense to him.

Pininip does have a streak of violence to him, but only against those that
have actively sought his death or those close to him OR those that seek to
enforce their orderly worldviews or hatred of magic on him. Pininips hunting
is not baseless or without cause.

He has done well for himself to further his magic, the veil has been thinner
because of his farse contest even. ALTHOUGH an Arch-Mage named Argothus
indicated the winner would be rewarded even though Pin had no intentions of
doing so. Argothus piqued Pininips interest in many ways. The magical aura
pouring off of the..man? Creature's?..body was blinding to Pininip's
sensitivity. It very much reminded him of his previous master of which he may
or may not still be a familiar to. Perhaps this would be a new Arch-Mage he
might vector for? Is it possible he will once again have the greatest of mana
surges pulled through his body? Time will tell!

Pinini's Wild Goose Chase

Added Sun Jun 14 15:17:48 2020 at level 51:
Pininip has a bit of an issue with scheming. He spends time plotting out a
course for himself to help make magic stronger, but by the end of it the
course ties itself in nots, loops infinitely, and usually explodes into
something entirely different than what he had intended. Fairly typical for a
chaos mage.

After puzzling over his notes from a more recent scheme regarding a follow up
to the Shattering the Veil competition, he started to move forward with a
plan that even he was confused by. He was given a sort of guidance by a
servant of Rahsael named Ash, and after he himself was unable to even begin
to explain what his intentions were, he balled up those papers and started
over.

What he came up with builds upon the Veil competition. He loosely plans to
plant seeds of chaos throughout the various factions of Thera. If the High
Priest of Empire is chasing down objects of great magical importance that
don't exist, she isn't exactly spending time enforcing divine law of the
Empire. If the Fortress of Light is spending time chasing down items of great
power because they think it will help destroy the Chasm, they aren't
following their own paths and enforcement of their creed and various rules.
All the while various items of magic will be given to the couriers of the
veil to continue to thin veil and allow magic to flow freely into Thera.

Pininip even named the venture 'Pininip's Wild Goose Chase' as an ironic
tribute to the fact that there is no real ending to it. Pininip is vaguely
hinting that Argothus the Arch-Mage tasked him to find 3 powerful object
around Thera:

A humming book of ebony and gold smaller than the palm of a giant's hand.

A shimmering robe of an elderly arch-mage with several pockets.

An elemental instrument of fury that pierces deaf ears.

These object may or may not exist, Pininip created them off the top of his
head. He went with generic descriptions that seemed unique and descriptive
enough to actually be real.

Pininip hopes to continue sewing sincere discord throughout the populace as
time elapses that increases magical power while shifting the power of Thera's
greatest to the ends of enhancing magic. He will be planting thoughts and
ideas of greatness in others via 'solving' this magical quest for Argothus.

It will continue until it isn't continuing. This isn't exactly a great goal
or revolutionary plan for Pininip, it is a passing fancy with no clear
conclusion that just happens to amuse him at this time.

Family Reunion (I)

Added Wed Jun 17 20:41:18 2020 at level 51:
He was pouring over a dusty and faded tome of the Master's Tower when he
heard it. Soft crying. He was a bit agitated, if we're being honest. All his
work making the tower stronger, bringing mages back into the Tower in search
of lost magics, inspiring the world to make magic strong through his
deceptions. And it was working! The Baron's Tower has more mages than ever
before, more things being rediscovered, the Village is weaker than he's ever
seen..in short his rotten tree is bearing fruit. But Suippi gets all the
glory. The affections, the attention, the secrets, the magic. His magic.
Sometimes his greed overcomes his common sense.

The soft tears turned into a pitiful wail. He went to investigate. He was
quite confused as he descended the stairs and saw a gnome sobbing. She looked
familiar to him, the physique, the hair..and then she looked up. Tear filled
eyes flowing freely, her brown eyes pierced him like a frozen ice-pick. He
taken back to his earlier years, bouncing on her lap as she stared down with
disappointment. Hugging her tightly in embraces that were half-returned. And
watching her walk away after a long walk in the woods. He tried to follow her
but she was moving so fast and he could barely totter. His own pain and
anguish manifested before him in the gnomish woman staring back, his mother.

She said she had sought him out, she had heard of him and what he had become,
and she wanted to see for herself. And then it was like he was young again,
he asked her so many questions, he offered so many explanations, he only
wanted to know that she was proud. He wanted to know he was loved and
cherished, surely that is why she came all this way! She said she had lost
her home, her livelihood, her husband, and all his brothers and sisters. But
none of that mattered to Pininip, he was very excited she was here. He
invited her to live in his room, to stay with him, he would replace her
things, he would give her shelter, he would love her and they would make up
for lost time.

Family Reunion (II)

Added Wed Jun 17 20:42:17 2020 at level 51:
She walked away slowly, a glazed look on her features. He stared after her,
remembering once again the dark day in the woods. He relived the moments, his
earliest memories. His brain began to tell him things, to call him names.
Freak! Abomination! Things he heard others call him after he left the
Arch-Mage. Things that never really bothered him until now as he watched his
mother walk away, again.

His reverie was interrupted by a loud splash. He ran to the river south of
the Tower. He knew something horrible had happened, he had a sinking feeling
in his gut that would not abate. He frantically ran along the riverbank for
several minutes, then he saw it. His mother's corpse slowly drifted into a
shallow part of the river. He stared at it, conflicted emotions unfelt for
two hundred years filling his core. He picked up the corpse and hugged it to
himself, staring down at lifeless eyes. It was then the Lord of Loss revealed
himself, for the first time. He felt like the Lord was just having a game
with him, a cruel joke. A deception just like Pininip might pull on others.
He chuckled in denial with the God, he held the corpse and felt much guilt at
what he had visited upon her. He seethed with anger, he asked the God to
bring her back. But his only response? 'Blessed are the Lost.'

With that the God faded away. Pininip slowly let the corpse slide back into
the water. So many thoughts and feelings to work through, he knew exactly
what to do. He flew to the towering Spire in Galadon and began to attack it
and all the guards within. He laid waste to several guards that poked and
prodded his thick scales with their spears and swords. He exhausted himself
and took the form of an eagle, flying up, and up. He noticed vultures
circling over the weald oddly, all swooping down at once. Curious he arrived
just in time to see a tiny gnome hand disappear down the gullet of a fat
catfish. He heard a crashing in the bushes and saw an odd looking goblin
running away, dropping something as he did so. He saw it then. Neatly cleaned
gnomish bones, tied with together with old twine. The last remnants of his
mother. He put her on his wrist, the insanity begun.

He spent some time talking to himself, talking with her, his voice hers, hers
his. Clearly she was haunting him. Her spirit was not at peace, she was not
at rest. This brought great joy to Pininip. His mother cared enough about him
to haunt him, to possess him at times, to spend her unlife with him. She
couldn't love him in her life, but she would forever from then on. He finally
has the affection he never knew he was missing. In his head he convinced
himself it was a grand occasion, she found him after so many years, she loved
him, she saved him from drowning but drowned herself. A lovely lie just for
him, a mother's love. He hugged his bracelet a little closer to himself and
gave it a little kiss. Time to discover more magic, to make his mother even
prouder.

Musings (I)

Added Thu Jun 25 16:09:47 2020 at level 51:
I hold my bracelet sometimes and I just think. I try to remember. My earliest
memories of my mother aren't exactly fond, but having the closure is nice.
Knowing that she wanted to spend eternity with me as a disgruntled spirit
really means she cares. I talk to her a lot to try to catch her up on my
different strategies, and what it is I'm doing. Sometimes as I say things
they don't really make sense, but I think if they did make sense and every
action I took had a known consequence or reaction life would be pretty
boring.

I like to think of the Archmage as my father. Something funny though, I don't
really remember much about him. Any time I try really hard to picture his
face my memories place him as a bright and blinding light. I've never really
thought about it until lately. My earliest memories of my father are warm and
fuzzy, there weren't really any hugs or cuddles. There weren't any stories or
tucking in at night. But I had a room, and every now and again I would get to
visit part of his laboratory. He'd pull magic through me and I'd know love.
Such raw power, such exhilarating promise. I could feel it in my eyeballs, in
my nails, in my hair. I could count every drop of blood in my body during
these times because I was so acutely aware of myself. I think this helped me
with my shapeshifting, its possible I was even groomed for this. I don't
mind.

I wonder where he is now? Is he proud of me? Does he care?

I met an Archmage once named Argothus. There was certainly something familiar
about him. At the time I attributed it to the raw power radiating from his
body and the ease with which he breathed in mana and exhaled power. I wonder
if he is looking for an apprentice? I don't like thinking that I've peaked
and there is nothing else to learn. I love going through the old tomes in the
tower and discovering forgotten things. I wish there was some way I could
better project my magic outward instead of inward, but that isn't really the
path I took. I wonder if at one time I could have been Argothus's pet
project, or his familiar. Is he my father? It is silly to think about, but it
is possible. I think he would reveal to me such things if they were true, if
he wanted.

Musings (II)

Added Thu Jun 25 16:11:31 2020 at level 51:
I need to update the world about my wild goose chase. I wonder how they will
feel if they ever realize it's all not real. Until that time though, to them
it is real. I helped the Fortress look for a robe for a very long time, they
were saying it was in the great mage stronghold of Thar-Acacia. So I met them
there and they asked if I had any coin so they might buy the robe they
suspected. I gave it to them, a hundred gold! They were disappointed when it
wasn't the right robe, but the four of them seemed to be having a great time
in the hours leading up to that discovery. I know the Spire, the Empire, and
Heralds are also looking for the items during their free time.

Isn't that the point of my fun though? The Empire, instead of dominating and
oppressing others with an iron fist, is out on a goose chase trying to find a
book before the Fortress finds it. These people are so desperate for meaning
and purpose in their lives that I don't even have to try very hard to come up
with an end goal for them. I simply say 'I think Argothus wants to destroy
the Chasm' and off they go. Not towards domination, but in a completely
different direction they had no intention of going that isn't even a part of
their grand plan.

I still don't really know where any of it is going, but I think it will
continue going in that direction for a long while if I have my way.
