Description
Tall and grotesquely slim, this man stands here with a look of deep
concentration upon his face. Dyed black hair contrasts with the pale skin of
his face, lending a dramatic element to his pale gray eyes. His hair hangs
loosely but neatly to his shoulders, while there is a slight protrusion as hi
half-elf ears peak out only slightly from his mane. A bored smirk is fixed on
his lips, as his eyes look cautiously in every direction at once, apparently
uneasy about his surroundings.

You hear a commotion coming from a small cabin in the woods. An angry
scream, replete with obsceneties. Suddenly the door flies out, snapping
without pause off it's hinges. A woman is next, landing hard on her head
as her hands clinch something at her waist.
A human follows her out, staring with angry reddened eyes as he considers
the chopping axe in his hand. But with a swift kick, he leaves her where
she is, and storms into the woods.
The woman, another human who at one time must have been quite beautiful,
turns over. Her bloodied face still borders on consciousness, as her arms
still tightly hold the package at her waist.
The package moves. Blankets fall away, revealing a newborn infant. It
cries piercingly into the night, as you suddenly realize its distinctly
pointed ears, clear to anyone that this child is part Elf.
Time passes as the mother and son lay there in the elements. Days, or
weeks.. who knows for certain. Eventually, a travelling merchant hears
the whimpering of the child. Seeing the opportunity for a quick profit,
he puts the mother in his cart, half-heartedly patching her wounds and
wiping away the blood.
After a second's hesitation, he shrugs and tosses the child like a rag
doll into the cart with his mother.
"The woman might still be fetch a decent price, if she gets cleaned up,"
he thinks. "And who knows.. maybe someone would even want the infant.
Couldn't hurt to see."
Leaving the nest

hey thought I would be a nice little pet, I think. A slave they could
raise to be whatever they wanted.
But they were wrong.
I watched them, always learning. They were so wealthy. Delicious food.
And two perfect little children. They dressed me up like a doll when I
was younger. Until they got tired of me.
Then I was forgotten. I welcomed that. Being treated like a toy, like a
prop. It was demeaning.
The children aged quickly.. these humans with their lust for everything,
even age. They moved on, leaving me still an adolescent. The owner of
what he thinks a slave, merely feet away.
I killed him with a dinner knife, as he ate supper.
It wasn't what I expected. I expected ecstasy. A rush of excitement and
happiness.
But I only felt a curious sensation of.. what was it? Contentment? Is
that what it feels like?
His wife gasped at the sight, but was otherwise paralyzed from fear. She
didn't move an inch, dinner roll still clutched in her hand as we stared
across the dining room. We stood in silence for what felt like an hour,
both of us contemplating what I might do next.
I had no guilt for the man who thought I was worth no more than a few
silver coins. But I had no anger for the woman.. she did nothing. Perhaps
that was her sin itself. But I couldn't make myself take that next step.
So I turned, and instead stepped out the door.
What am I?

I found myself in some dark alley of the city. Bloody knife still in my
hand. I must have made an impression, the beggars and the thugs gave me a
wide berth. In the distance, I heard the commotion of city guards.
Perhaps it was my own deed that caught their attention, perhaps some
other crime. I had no fear of getting caught.. my life of solitude in a
crowded home, I felt at ease in the shadows.. out of sight.
I wandered aimlessly, still pondering what I would do. I was free. To do
whatever I wished. But what did I want?
And what was that sensation I felt, as the knife first plunged through
his ribs? Something I'd never felt before. Uncomfortable, but at the same
time.. very comfortable. But I'm not a murderer. What am I?
Breaking my concentration, I looked up to realize I was somewhere I'd
never seen. A building I'd never noticed, with subdued sign which said
simply, "Assassin's Guild".
Now, I know

I've come to hate the term "Assassin". It seems to imply a lack of
morality. A will to kill for the highest bidder. And by that, I am no
assassin.
Yet I have killed. Not just the man who called me his property. I have
killed since. On numerous occasions. But all for the same reason. They
had acted in a way that they forfeited their right to a life. Robbery.
Murder. Torture. These are things that cannot be tolerated. And from now
on, they will not.
Some people have claimed that I am no different than these others. That I
act no differently than they. But we know the truth. They killed for some
sense of pleasure, for their own gain. And I killed only to stop them. To
stop the ones that need to be stopped.
I don't need the mantle of a hero to tell me what I do is right. I don't
need adoration or even acceptance. I am what I am, and that is enough.
Unfortunately, I have noticed there are far more of these vagabonds then
I first thought. The Empire especially has caught my eye. It seems to
draw them like ants to sugar. I fight them tirelessly. And I can stop the
individuals among them. But how does one man stop an army?
Perhaps I should find an army of my own. I've heard some rumors of some
sort of Brigade near Voralian City. But by the stories, they sound soft..
I wonder if that's true.
