Description

A young dwarf stands before you, having just reached maturity he eyes the world with curiosity, taking in the surroundings quickly his eyes never still. His eyes are a deep emerald green they almost seem aged far beyond his youthful look. Standing only four feet tall, you can tell he is hardened from his travels and training, for his shoulders are broad, and his hands grip tightly around a large weapon. His beard is thick and a deep rich brown, it is tightly bound in three thick braids the longest in the centre reaching his waist. A brown leather travelling cloak is tightly bound around his neck draping over his thick frame.

Role

A Paladin in Making.

Added Fri Mar 20 20:20:22 2009 at level 4:
Growing up in Akan, Raner knew that there were few guilds that he could
justly follow. For he knew to be a simple warrior was no feat even if he were
to become a master of several weapons. The one guild that he knew required a
life dedicated to its facets, its teachings its code. Was that of the
Paladin.

As he began his training, the more Raner knew he had chosen the path which
required the most intense training, the most study, the most dedication and
energy. As Raner came to realise he had learnt all he could where he was, he
began the travels on his own. All he held with him, was his blade and
conviction in his cause. Under his arm though, he held something else, a
book. Entitled the Teachings of the Sublime Lady Yean.

A Path Set in Stone

Added Fri Mar 20 20:19:04 2009 at level 4:
As Raner began his travels he saw many whose talents intrigued him, warriors
whom could twirl blades with blinding speed, magicians whom could create fire
from their hands.

To Raner these things were simply carnival tricks, not something that could
be beautiful, not something when reflected upon would be worth the months it
took to master. Smithing took Raner over a decade to master he needed
something that could perhaps even take a lifetime.

As he trudged through peaks of mountains surrounding Mortorn he saw a battle
rage before him.

Upon one side, dressed in White and grey platemail, phoenixs emblazoned upon
their standards he knew of them. The Maran.

Upon the other side dark orcs, he could smell their stench from where he
stood.

As the two sides clashed the clamor of the battle was near deafening.
Something within Raner began to tingle, to burn even brighter. To become a
master of war, a Champion of the Light, the one whom defeated darkness. To
achieve more than any Maran, to finally complete a war that has waged since
the day the world was born. That was truly something Raner felt he could, and
felt almost a duty to expend all the energy that was within him to fulfil.
His path was set.

An Unquenchable Thirst

Added Fri Mar 20 20:13:25 2009 at level 4:
Lifting the blade far above his head, he brought it down upon a pile of hay
suited in a brilliant full set of mithril armor as he struck the mithril
simply gave way under the sharpened blade, slicing through the armor like
butter. As the blade struck the ground the vibration shook the sword out of
the elderly smiths grip. Looking at awe at his best suit of armor, he knew
his sons skills had far surpassed his own.

Looking at his son the elderly smith spoke

Well me son, yah ave got me. Yah bested me at me own game.

In response Raner grinned at his father

Father, yah ave made me strong, smart an yah ave created a thirst within
me own eart that no amount o ale or meadll quench. It bein a thirst for
knowledge! This is bein me first skill o mastery an that blade is bein
the finest result to me it a thing o beauty!

Now me travels are me own, I ave proved to ye that I ave even surpassed yah
own skills o smithin, now it bein time to master somethin knew. Somethin
not bred in me blood. I take to me travels o father.

With that, Raner left his fathers smith began his travels of mastery, to
quench this thirst that had developed deep within his heart.

The Student Advances

Added Fri Mar 20 20:11:30 2009 at level 3:
Now the young dwarf has aged several years, having had years in front of the
furnace handling the tongs, hammer and anvil he outshines any other smith
throughout the land. The only equal he has his own father.

To Raner, that was one too many. For he sought not to have an equal while he
knew he was a master smith he could forge any blade without thinking, he
could temper steel harder and more durable than any other. Yet in his mind he
had to put beyond doubt that his skills even surpassed that of his fathers.

As his father walked into their small smithy the walls lined with blades,
armor and shields of all makes and sizes what took his interest was a blade
lying upon the anvil.

He looked at his son, then back to this shining longsword upon the anvil.

I thought yah been mighty quiet o late Raner me boy. Now I see yah been
workin on somethin special! Yah reckon itll be stronger than me own eh
boy?

Picking the blade from the anvil he made several slicing and thrusting
movements, swapping hands as he went.

Hmm, it bein perfectly balanced eh. Yah ave gotten better! But is she
strong enough to survive battle, that bein the test.

With that he launched an attack upon a shield hanging upon the wall, the
blade easily cleaved the shield into two distinct pieces, one half clattering
upon the ground, the other still mounted rigidly upon the wall.

Bloomen ell! That was one o me best shields! Right er....HAH! Me best
mithril armor, yah blade ain no match for it me boy. I bein sorry yah put a
whole lot o work into this blade, but it about to be shattered!

Grunting Raner just grinned at his father, for he had shattered hundreds of
blades before presenting this final piece of work. He had cleaved several
boulders clean in half with this blade before presenting it to his father.

The First Lessons of Mastery

Added Fri Mar 20 20:08:39 2009 at level 3:
Raner! Look an bloody listen ter me will ya!

Im bloody lookin Pap!

Right! After ya be heatin the steel, and mouldin it into tha shape ya
wishin it to see, not overworkin the metal or itll become weak! Now once
ya got da right shape, yah needin to be coolin it quick smart, but no so
quickly or itll crack the steal, yah needin the water jus right!

A gray bearded dwarf covered head to toe in soot, sweat dripping from his
hooklike bulbous nose, nodding as he speaks, plunges the blade he was working
on into a large vat of cooled water, a loud TSSS echoing through the dank
smithy.

A younger dwarf not quite mature yet stands beside the elderly man, his
father. Looking at his father in appreciation of his mastery the young dwarf
Raner takes in each lesson with the utmost interest in his hopes to surpass
his fathers mastery of smithing.
