Role
Delusion

What is a mage without ambition?
Mediocre, that is what. Or so thought (aspiring) Archmage Rashign Victon,
at least.
He had plenty of ambition. Plenty of ideas. The problem was, noone else in
the High Tower of Sorcery really appreciated his brilliance. He was passed
over again, and again, and again. While many a mage would be content to be
on the fourth floor, he wanted more. So much more. To look down from the
golden throne and for others to know what he already knew: that he was the
best of the best.
What did it matter that most of his inspired ideas fell depressingly flat,
or that he'd not produced anything of substance in literal years. It just
showed he was treading unsafe ground, that he wasn't content with the
already well explored areas, that he was at the cutting edge!
No. Rashign knew he was a genius, and he decided one autumn evening just
how he was going to prove it.
He was going to go where only gods had gone before!
What could possibly go wrong?
Experimentation
Added Thu Oct 7 05:51:10 2021 at level 28:
Of course, recreating that crafted by the hand of dark divinity was not
really a high enough goal. He'd have to improve on it. The first step would
be not picking an elf as the base. Orcs were hardly famed for their mental
prowess, so why not pick something that would complement the orc traits?
Yes, a fire giant. Perfect. Rashign bought a young specimen off the
necromancer a hall over and two doors down. It cost him a silver staff he'd
pilfered from that arrogant fool next door, but it was a small price to pay
(and removed evidence, as a benefit).
Orcs were everywhere this time of season; he ambushed a young one in the
shadow grove, disrupting its mind and leaving it a drooling reck - well,
more so than usual.
Now he had all he needed. It was time to experiment!
The fire giant died about half an hour into said experiments, and the orc
shortly after.
Perhaps this was going to take a while, Rashign acknowledged.
Triumph?
Added Thu Oct 7 05:52:31 2021 at level 28:
Rashign stared down at his masterpiece.
The ninth (or was it fifteenth?) attempt was wonderful.
Oh, it wasn't much to look at normally. But once you cracked its skull open
and got to see the wonders he'd done with its brain, well.
The base was simple. The drive orc's suffered from was complicated (he
refused to acknowledge it was far beyond him), but the fundamental seemed
clear.
Hunger. Survive.
So just crank the hunger drive up, and the rest would sort itself out. Self
preservation too, for what was an orc without the wish to survive? Simple!
Then there was this ghastly drive for disorderly conduct in the orcs. That
had to go, of course. He was a civilised man, and any project of his would
be civilised too! That was tough to do, but Rashign thought he'd got it
about right (give or take).
Yes. His creation was wonderful. This would be revolutionary!
It was time to wake him up.
Subject
Added Thu Oct 7 05:54:06 2021 at level 28:
Subject listened to the God.
The God was wise. The God had made him. The God was everything.
Or so the God had said.
Subject continued to clean the God's Hall of Creation while the God raged
about the lack of appreciation. About how they didn't see.
Subject didn't know why the God was angry. Perhaps it was because those
people had laughed at the God when he'd taken Subject to them?
Were they Gods, too?
Subject was so hungry.
One of the small glass things slipped between Subject's thick fingers,
smashing on the God's floor.
The God spoke, and Subject knew pain.
But through it all: Subject was still... so... hungry.
The God
Added Thu Oct 7 05:55:29 2021 at level 28:
Subject watched the God work.
He had another on the table.
Like Subject, but different, with hair on his head and no patchy skin.
This was wrong.
Why did the God have one like Subject, but not?
Subject watched as the God worked, and the one not like Subject became more
like Subject.
Then the God's hands slipped, and the one on the table spasmed and lay
still; and the God raged.
But Subject understood.
This was how the God had made Subject, and now the God wanted to replace
Subject.
Subject would not be replaced.
Rashign
Added Thu Oct 7 05:57:37 2021 at level 28:
The God was at it again.
This time he had one like Subject, but with blue skin.
As normal, the God snapped at Subject to bring him one of the God's tools
of creation. Subject brought it to him.
The God took it, and turned back to work.
And Subject took his chance.
The God was mighty, but the God must speak to bring the pain, and Subject
was close. He wrapped his hands around the God's face and head, holding his
mouth shut as he shook the God back and forth. Back and forth. Back and
forth. Shook and twisted until the God stopped his flailing and the God's
head turned the wrong way three times.
Then he dropped the God, and Subject stood alone in the God's hall of
Creation.
Subject was so hungry.
Subject ate the God, and the blue one like Subject too.
They were delicious.
Then Subject took the potions that the God had made Subject gather for him,
and drank them one after the other until one took him somewhere away from
the God's Hall of Creation.
When the guild of soul eating asked Subject his name, Subject told them.
Subject was his own God now.
It was only right he take the God's name.
Rashign was so hungry...
The state of the yumnion
Added Sun Nov 21 11:21:25 2021 at level 51:
This crumpled piece of parchment was clearly of high quality, but various
stains and what looks suspiciously like drool has discoloured it to the
point that it is probably better off in a bin somewhere. Scrawled across
the top in very blocky writing are the words "Rash's Men you".
Breakfasts:
There is a crude drawing of a mountain with what might be a castle on the
top of it. There is a stick figure at the front of the castle holding
something vaguely mace like. The whole thing has been circled three times,
and under it is scrawled:
Too many blands and stringy lizards. Needs more tenders and juicy blueskins.
Hope stupid Captain dies, because Rash hate, and not even taste good!
Lunches:
Rather than a building, this drawing is just of a duergar with a very angry
expression on his face, and a big red cross on his chest (though this seems
to have been added as an afterthought to signify danger). Written beneath
is:
Drillmaster scary. Duergars taste bad, but Rash want eat this one just so
can stop dreaming about him eating Rash. Scribbled in the margin are
pictures of a bunch of yellow root-like things, once again circled three
times.
Dinners:
A picture of a spiky... thing, with the word "tree" circled next to it
takes up the third quarter of the parchment. There is a long paragraph
ranting about some "sky stick giant" underneath, and how he was probably
delicious and now Rash will never know. Underneath the paragraph is written,
in very large words:
Tree quieter now, But tenderest of tenders is there. Rash want to eat again
so much! Following this declaration is a scribbled image of a wood elf
waving around some kind of stringed drum, as if the creator wasn't quite
sure how instruments actually work.
Chefs:
The final drawing might have been another attempt at a building, but the
poor attempt has been crossed out and a big star drawn over the top instead.
Next to it is a scowling rendition of the face of someone that might
charitably be the Emperor Odaza, with a big arrow pointing from it to the
star.
Always eat chefs last. Emperor says not eat the chefs, so this perfect!
Cheatsheet:
Blands - humans.
Half blands - half elves.
Blueskins - storm giants.
Lizards - saurians.
Chefs - heralds.
