Description
A young, pale skinned man, stands before you adorned in plain gambeson
underneath plate armor. Long black hair is seen flowing down his back
straight and smooth from under his helm. He has emerald colored eyes and
what seems to be a rigid face with a stern look about him. Difficult, but
not impossible to notice, are his elven like ears, though he is much larger
in stature than showing his mixed heritage of elven and human. A simple
trinket hangs from a string around his neck, a wooden carving of some sort
of feline lays on his chest. He doesn't seem to carry any weapons on him
but his gauntlets are distinguishably tarnished from use.

Chapter 1: A world that grows darker
Added Mon Feb 26 20:32:10 2024 at level 7:
In this world full of darkness and pain, where life is difficult to survive
and full of destruction, the light dims even in the brightest of places.
Remlial, our half-elven young man, the center of this story is no exception to
such pain, yet he still seeks to glimmer and shine even though his light
barely shines. Born to a simple family, a human mother, an elven father, and
the oldest son with a younger brother, they had a rather normal life as far as
he could remember. Though it was only such briefly as Remlial was only six
when an unknown tragedy had struck, leaving him and his brother as orphans at
the young age of six and three.
With no other family to take them in, that they knew of, they were sent off to
the orphanage in Balator. Due to his age, the adults that would adopt didn't
look at him favorably, but his younger brother had a different outcome. Even
though they tried to stay together they were separated, Remlial being truly
alone with no family, losing basically everybody, and he doesn't even know if
his brother was adopted by a good family or not. No matter how hard he fought
be adopted by them as well, he had no power to persuade them or convince them,
he was just too old and strong willed, seemingly to ill mannered.
Now alone with no family, his days felt empty and slow, experiencing the same
nothings day in and day out. There was one thing though that would happen at
the orphanage of Balator. The priest of the Empire would could and try to
inspect the children and 'adopt' them. Though Jaragh would do what he could to
keep them from entering the grounds. He was a courageous man who even in times
of odds would stand steadfast before them keeping them at bay though, there
were still times he would get overpowered, it would not detour him from
attempting such, as he cared for the orphans. This man brought inspiration to
Remlial as it's what he had wished to be to his brother but couldn't as he
didn't have the strength at the time to keep it that way.
Chapter 2: The teaching, devotion and dedication. Part one
Added Mon Feb 26 20:37:07 2024 at level 7:
Several years had passed and Remlial was reaching his teenage years. Soon he
would have to leave the orphanage to pursue his own life, as it already had
many mouths to feed and Remlial was getting of age to support himself. Over
the years, he had learned much from Jaragh about many things regarding the
Paladin's code, and what it was to be a defender of the light. Jaragh was
capable, but even he still had plenty to learn too, but he did show at least
great courage and determination to Remlial and the other children, keeping the
Imperials away as best he could, knowing that their intentions for the orphans
could only be dastardly. Sadly, it wasn't without consequence or some loss,
some children did get taken, either by force or by the shadow sect taken them,
and even some left on their own accord seeking wealth and power and fame, as
if their hearts were allured by such darkness. It was painful to watch, and it
always felt humiliating that we could only hide and cower behind Jaragh, who
would at times take brutal beatings for us, but we were only children. This in
itself filled me with with a certain fury that sought retribution for their
heinous actions.
The time had come for me to leave, and I had sought to continue my path down
that of a holy knight, a Paladin, and journeyed to the Keep of the Righteous.
I met with Gharis, the leader of the keep, to whom I gained entry, though he
seemed hesitant at first. Perhaps something about me made him wary but I
wasn't sure. Regardless, I began taking classes both of pen and blade in their
keep training often and learning about channeling divine power, history, about
the gods of the light, and one say seeking my own pilgrimage to their Shrines.
In my class about the Deities, I had learned about the lady Baerinika, amongst
the other deities of the light, though her name seemed to radiate in my heart,
like a pulse of white fire burning in my heart when I thought of her. Would
she provide the power to grant righteous retribution against those of the
Empire for the harm they had done against Jaragh and the other children of the
orphanage that they had made victims? At this time in my life, this was the
evil that I had known to be present, but there was much more to be known that
I was so naively unaware of.
Chapter 2: The teaching, devotion and dedication. Part two
Added Mon Feb 26 20:38:07 2024 at level 7:
In my practical teachings, my talent for the blade or weaponry wasn't very
good. I didn't handle the sword or shield well, more the large maces and two
handed swords. Staves and pikes didn't grasp well in my hands and I fumbled
with them mostly, but my talent seemed to be mostly with my fist. While my
edge alignment would falter with a slice of the blade, and my spacing was
terrible with a polearm, I'd fumble and drop a staff often, and the mace just
felt clumsy in my hands, when I fought, even against those using weapons, bare
knuckled, it was like breathing to me. The flow of combat was easy, the
movement made sense, my strikes were fierce and precise, I felt comfortable
fighting like this. This was the teaching I sought to pursue, to dedicate to
as a Paladin, a monk.
Chapter 3: A glimpse into the past for the beginning path, part 1
Added Mon Feb 26 20:51:23 2024 at level 7:
On long, dark nights, sleepless and full of thought, Remlial would be lost in
many things. Thinking about what happened to his parents, his brother and his
well being, and about the many stories and teachings of Jaragh. He also
considered his path and what he might pursue in life. The stories of the
Knights of Thera from Jaragh inspired him to want to seek out to become a
squire of the Fortress. My studies and training were coming to an end and as I
am grateful for Gharis for his keep, and surviving Chez's cooking, and Darius'
dry lectures, as well as studying under Myserio and Tigis with the blade and
guard duty, it has been quite the experience but it was time for me to venture
out on my own. I wished them all well and began packing my things when Gharis
approached me informing me that I had a letter that came a few years ago
addressed to a Remlial Blackwood, which is why they were hesitant to give it
to me, as they knew me as Remlial Luxidor, which was my father's elven
surname. Blackwood was my mother's maiden name.
The letter said:
-- Dear Remlial,
This is your Aunt and Uncle Blackwood. Many years have passed since the tragic
day that your mother and that seed barer you may call father perished. We did
not take you in with your younger brother at the orphanage those many years
ago, as we had already sensed the taint of your elven heritage had taken hold
within you and knew that you would not take after your mother's side of the
family, the Blackwood's estate. If you care for your brother, your remaining
kin, do not seek us out, as he cares nothing for you nor that putrid light you
may hold in your heart, he follows the Blackwood ways and has no real
recollection of you regardless. We did think it would be quite enjoyable to at
least torment you a little and let you know that he is alive at least, but
that there was truly nothing you could do, that he has adapted to the coven
your mother abandoned so many years ago for your foolish elven father so many
years ago, when she fell in love with him and eloped to bare you. If you value
your life, and your brother's life, we'd recommend staying your distance. Oh,
and to let you know, it was the Blackwoods who removed the tainted blood from
our family, the one who betrayed our coven and the seed barer that infiltrated
your mother. Your brother knows and understands as well why we had to remove
the rot from the Blackwood family line. Since you were but a child, we decided
to just cut ties with you and now that you are an adult, allow you to keep it
that way and keep your measly pathetic life.
Chapter 3: A glimpse into the past for the beginning path, part 2 / Summary
Added Mon Feb 26 20:53:31 2024 at level 7:
The malice of the letter was felt, and while his heart was filled with grief
and pain, a feeling began to come within that wished to save his brother from
them. He knew he'd have to continue his path and gain strength through
Baerinika, to seek her divine power and find a way to bring retribution to
their dark deeds that had turned their once peaceful lives into turmoil. It
was then that he saw a glimpse of some of the true darkness of the world, that
even those who do good, and are good, evil is always plotting and will seek
hurt any who get in their way for any reason at all, or no reason.

Chapter 4: A reflection upon growth
Added Sat Mar 2 14:33:33 2024 at level 40:
There have been several things I have accomplished since leaving the
the keep under Gharis' lead. I have made progress in goals I thought
I would not find much progress in. I had doubted I'd accomplish much
as I've always felt that I couldn't do much to protect those I cared
about, and they kept getting taken from me, whether it was my brother
or my parents, or even the children who were taken or lead astray
at the orphanage. It felt like I was incapable of doing anything, that
all I could hope to do is learn, grow stronger, and hope one day I could
gain retribution against the darkness for their wicked deeds.
I have met with my lady Baerinika, and she has blessed me and has begun
guiding me on my path. She has giving me an interesting task, quite
the abstract thing, finding meaning certain concepts and finding their
virtues. Not those typically taught to Paladins like Temperance,
Hope, Retribution, Faith, Fortitude, and Prudence, but things that we see in
typical day to day emotions and actions, such as forgiveness, anger,
respect, righteousness, peace, rage, and how these can be applied as
both virtues, yet also how they could be a crutch or be falsely
claimed as virtuous when they are harmful and used with ill intention.
Respect is one my lady did focus on for me, I likely need to grasp it better
as I sometimes can find myself seeking vengeance for the light a much more
deeper emotion than staying my hand at times. It is also a part of
the code I vowed to follow to respect the laws of the lands, which
implies in a sense, that of the Tribunal, and that such not living to
the code could possibly endanger the light more so than defeat the wicked.
Lastly, I have joined the Fortress, and have learned a great deal
within as a Squire. I continue to train to become a Maran some day.
I have studied the manuals and scrolls and do my best to protect the light.
It does feel a bit different from the stories Jaragh told from the
Knights of old, but as times change, so does war, we must adapt.
I have noticed I have grown stronger, and I feel I can protect more.
Brother, I'm coming and I hope I can save you, please wait for me.
