Description
He is of average height and quite thin, but in a wiry sort of way. His
skin is tanned. He has a somewhat poor and unkempt appearance. He is
mostly clad in leathers and his dirty clothes has a primitive look to them.
He has a high brow, long black and greasy hair, bushy eyebrows set upon
large brown eyes, a huge nose and a full beard. Most of the time he
wears a wary expression on his face, and his eyes are constantly
blinking and scanning his surroundings.

Notes on personality

10 years in the wilderness, most of these alone, has not improved
Rheddac's social skills. He is blunt, impatient with others and has
what others might call a grumpy demeanor if being kind, even though
hostile might be more fitting.
Rheddac is very concerned about his ability to take care of himself.
He is unlikely to ask others for aid, even if his life is at stake.
Rheddac is not sentimental and is generally unmoved by tales of
bravery, love and heroism. Thinking back on his childhood he regards
such tales as lies or faerie tales at best.
In recent years, after finding a new home in the Great Tree of the
Outlanders, Rheddac has discovered that he can occasionally laugh,
although it is often a bitter laugh provoked by humor of the blackest
kind.
Past travels
Added Wed Sep 10 04:48:54 2008 at level 27:
Rheddac was drawn to the north by some unknown force. After years of
searching he found a rock face deep in a forest. There a large carving
of a woman's face stirred something in him. He decided to make the
forest his new home.
On occasion Rheddac traded and learned from the nearby OneHearts. He
walked with their mystics and pondered their teachings. He came to
the conclusion that the woman without a face is one of the Ancients and
the reason she is displeased is the general decline of the land.
It was clear that he was expected to do something about it.
Eventually, he came to learn of the Outlanders and sought them out.
He was accepted among them by a giant called Namarin, who saw a free
spirit in Rheddac.
While not at peace, Rheddac has found purpose beyond the now. He seeks
to hinder the advance of civilization and strikes at its champions.
He is rarely troubled by his nightmares and takes that as a good sign.
Background
Added Fri Jul 18 08:23:55 2008 at level 20:
Rheddac is cursed by the wrath of Jagad, but he doesn't know that.
Among other things the curse makes him ill when he handles money.
Rheddac has inherited the curse from his father, a mercenary of Hamsah
Mutazz, who because of his greed incurred the wrath of a powerful
priestess. This happened shortly before Rheddac was born.
When Rheddac was but a few years old, both his parents perished, no
doubt due to the curse. Some friends of the family was kind enough to
arrange to have Rheddac placed in the nearby orphanage of Balator.
Having experienced little love in his early days, Rheddac found less in
the Orphanage. There were many needy there and there was something
strange about Rheddac. Often small accidents would happen
when you were close to him. A powerful gust of wind on an otherwise
calm day, stepping into a small hole when walking down the road, burning
yourself when tending to the fire.
Perhaps these happenings were due to the curse or perhaps they were
manifestations of Rheddac's magical talent. At any rate, Rheddac did
manage to befriend a few of the kids there, but after seeing them brutally
murdered by the "visitors" while the teachers looked the other way, he
learned to detach himself emotionally from others.
And while he also learned numbers and letters at the orphanage, his real
lesson was that death comes sudden, that human lives are cheap and that
one less mouth to feed was in general a good thing.
At the age of 9 he ran away from the Orphanage and lived on the streets
of Hamsah Mutazz. His quick wits and his beginning powers made it
possible for him to survive by begging and petty theft. At night he was
troubled by nightmares of dogs chasing him in the wilds. It took him
several months to realize that coins made him ill, but eventually he
did. He left the cities and lived off the land.
The woman without a face
Added Fri Jul 18 04:30:14 2008 at level 19:
Rheddac trashed through the woods. The barking of the hounds were
getting louder. Soon they would be upon him! Heart pounding, he tried
to up his pace. "Must...escape...keep...running".
The foliage was getting thicker. Roots protruded everywhere, making him
stumble, thorns scratched his skin as he pressed through.
Suddenly he was in a clearing, lit by the pale light of the moon.
A woman was in the center of the clearing, with her back to him.
'Please help me!', Rheddac cried. As the woman turned, an inexplicable
dread rose in Rheddac. He kept his head down, panting from exhaustion.
"Foolish child...why do you bother me? Don't you know your gold has no
power here?" The voice was ancient, full of power and seemed to drown
out all other sounds.
"Please...help...I'll give...anything", Rheddac stammered.
The laughter was deafening and thick with mockery, "Child, you have
nothing to offer...your blood is thin...weak!"
Rheddac looked up slowly. The woman was right before him. She had no
face! As he began to scream, her laughter mingled with the snarling of
dogs, eagerly tearing into his flesh.
======================================================================
Rheddac woke bathed in sweat. That horrible dream again! It had been
weeks since his last nightmare. After he stopped using money, he had
slept better, and for a while he thought he was free of the dreams.
He got up. No use in trying to get more sleep even though it was in the
middle of the night. At least it was quiet out here in the forest.
Who was the woman? He knew he must discover that to have any hopes for
peace.
Blood. It has something to with blood...but what?
He intended to find some answers and something in his gut told him to
head north. And he would never wimper like in the dreams. He hated that.
