Description

Before you stands well aged Wood-Elf of roughly five foot height. Numerous silvery strands run trough his light brown and slightly scruffy hair that frame his tanned and weather beaten face. He doesn't really look worn down from age (something that cannot be said about his clothes), quite the opposit actually: His almond shaped eyes still show some sparks of youth and mischief and his laughter lines accompany them quite well. The ravages of time cannot be hidden from the keen eye though, an Elf will probably see that he wandered the face of Thera for maybe 800 or even 900 years. Somehow the smell of alcohol seems to follow him wherever he goes, maybe that also explains why a smile often crosses his face... If you decide to take a closer look you will see that:

Role

Of Age & Reason

Added Sun Sep 14 14:29:40 2008 at level 51:
Seasons come and go, years are passing like clouds in the sky...
The five years of imprisonment inside the Great Secret together with Lauriel,
the most interesting women he ever met: A thing of the past.
Throkk, his Nightreaver chum: Gone for good.
The epic voyages with Dkarfvoor, the knowledgeable Kingpin of Galadon: A mere
memory.
All the journeys to the strangest places in Thera: Scars healed long ago.

Hunkered down in his most favourite corner in the Inn, his thoughts still
muddled from the recent drinking binge with two complete strangers, Rioko let
his mind wander a bit before drifting off to sleep.
"What a total waste of gold and effort" He thought. "That Kreo was the worst
excuse for a Kingpin ever gracing the face of Thera. Only being a High Elf
could have made him more worthless then he has been... Damn these blasted
ungrateful buggers.
One of these days...
One of these days... " Rioko mumbled to himself.
Fluffing his makeshift glyrric pillow with his right hand he let his eyes
wander sleepily across the Inn.
"Sure is a nice place... Plenty of booze too"
He closed his eyes.
"Maybe I should finish the missing three staves of my big ballad so I can
impress Iunna and become a Herald"
Rioko started to doze off.
"Some other day, some day soon..."

Of Cloaks & Beggars

Added Tue Dec 4 16:47:21 2007 at level 49:
Rioko shambled slowly trough the burnt down village north of Udgaard. His
last encounter with one of the skeletons of Mount Calandaryl took quite a bad
turn and he could still feel the effect of waking up back in Evermoon Hollow.

In times like this, on gloomy days when the cold damp air seeps trough the
worn down cloth and neither a good drink, nor a good brawl is in sight,
Riokos thoughts tend to strike a sour note. Reflecting on the unsure future
that shows no direction, the gray and shallow present that offers no true
fulfilment and the unpleasant events long past whose sting could still be
felt today. Childhood memories of betrayal by friends, of girls speaking
about him in a mocking tone, of a society that is as rigid on the inside as
it is old, where a single misconduct can mar you for the rest of your life...

"Oh thanks you! Thank you Sir! You are so generous good Sir!"
Rioko looked up from his brooding to witness a scene that was happening in
one of the side streets, just a few steps away. A man, maybe some sort of
soldier judging from his stature, gave a beggar selflessly half of his own
cloak and even some rations. Both of vanished shortly afterwards, probably to
evade detection by Udgaardian patrols.
And while Rioko was standing there thinking about what he just saw, his mood
started to rise.

Not everything is dark and gloomy in these times.

Sometimes the small things make life worth living.

Fulfilment has to be lived, not sought after!

So Rioko picked up the half empty bottle of grog that was carelessly left
behind by the beggar and headed towards the north gate. He once heard that
hot springs can be found in the mountains ahead.
Maybe this day wont end as bad as it started after all...

Enter the... Glyrric?

Added Fri Jul 27 11:36:53 2007 at level 39:
Lo and behold! What a marvellous sight! What a mystical creature! What a
legendary... mole pelt.
Rioko sat in the Whispering Wind Inn with a huge tankard of dwarven ale, his
eyes fixed in deep thought on the shimmering pelt of the Glyrric. While its
certainly nice to have such a pelt in the harsh weather and while sleeping
outside (the glow is a bit annoying in the night though)a certain
characteristic is also worth mentioning: Nobody he met so far has ever seen
or heard of the Glyrric. Maybe he could still get something out of this
story, like the time he mesmerised that blood thirsty fire giant with a
slightly modified version of "How-I-bested-the-monstrous-Glyrric". Maybe
this could be a nice stepping stone to enamour something more impressive then
trollops and country wenches...

Maybe he should visit the Inn of the Eternal Star more frequently.

Wine, Women and Song - The life of a ne'er-do-well

Added Fri Jul 27 11:36:05 2007 at level 39:
"Trickster", "braggart", "lazybones" and "scallywag" are just a short
selection of names Rioko got called over the years and every one of them had
probably at least a small truth in them. Its certainly the case that he is
quite a shady character and quick with his fists and sword but how it came to
this is difficult to say. While he had good caring parents he was also
quickly bored and so his strong curiosity led him often into the dark woods
of Ar'atouldain where he spent a lot of time with the more unsavoury
denizens. For some reason he always seems be drawn to those types...

In his defence it has to be said that he is not really malicious. He
wouldn't, for example, slay his own kin in cold blood or High Elves for that
matter, but he can be rather short tempered when it comes to their
"holier-than-thou" attitude. Dark Elves on the other hand pretty much ask for
it and therefore play into his love for battle, brawl'n'bloodshed (as long as
he is on the winning side obviously), one of the few things he is at least
somewhat competent. All the other races are little to no concern to him, so
he wouldn't mind for example smashing the nose of a human Paladin, if the
opportunity arises and he happens to be in the right mood.

His aims in life are as flighty as his past so its difficult to predict
anything more then his next drinking binge in some run down tavern.

Goodbye,so long, take care (and good riddance)

Added Thu Apr 12 10:02:17 2007 at level 27:
A swift hug and some well wishes later Rioko was stepping out of the gates of
Evermoon Hollow. Everybody seemd to be in a rather good mood today, not only
that he received a rather well filled purse from his parents but even one of
the guards was nodding towards him when he passed. Apparently the small
incident (and the hefty brawl that followed) two days ago was already
forgiven and forgotten...
Considering they also didnt bother to ask him about the two bottles of wine
that must have gone missing this night it was time to head to the next tavern
to round off the day!

Enough is enough!
The libellous remarks about dwarven prisoners and the sexual preference of
the princess were the straw that broke the camels back. The council of elders
(and many citizens) were not willing to put up with his escapades, petty
thievery, insults, barroom brawls and general uselessness. The seedy looking
people he always hangs out with certainly didnt help in that matter either.
Sadly, nothing was sever enough to issue a temporal banishment from Evermoon
so the elders came up with something different: "As long as he is too busy
getting drunk somewhere else he cant get drunk around here!", one of the
elders said, "Lets make sure that he enlists into the bards guild and be done
with it". So the plan was set and the only thing left to do was to make sure
that he pays the tuition fee and signs up at the academy as fast as possible.
Considering Riokos predictable behavior when it comes to alcohol, money and
women it didnt take long for them to come up with the perfect scheme to con
him into that.

Crapulence

Added Sat Mar 24 11:15:41 2007 at level 20:
He came awake with a pounding headache. The awful taste in his mouth reminded
him that it was probably an overly large amount of booze, and not a blunt
object, that put him into this state once again. His surroundings were
unknown to him that moment but that was nothing new or surprising, he usually
ended up like that somehow. What was, was this strange voice that faded in
the distance and this odd little gnome that greeted him with "Welcome to
Thera!". It probably would be better to cut down on the abuse of intoxicating
substances in the future. Maybe after he found out where this odd building
was and how he ended up at this place.
Maybe tomorrow...
