Description
A regal and very tall storm giant is before you. His body is garbed in robes
and other light armorments. His nose is hawk-like and his head is completely
shaven of any hair or other adornment. Imprinted upon his bald head is a
massive tattoo of a giant squid wrapping its tentacles around his ears and
eyes, giving him an ominous but also racoon look. The beak jets down and
is incorporated into his nose which give emphasis to his already hawked
nose. His face and cheeks are streamlined and quite muscular, which seems
odd. His movements are hauty and strong, both intentional and meant to add
to his already strong aura. His eyes are without pupils and are a whitish
hue through and through. If irises existed they have long faded into the
white background that is his direct and piercing eyes. His whole countanance
speaks loudly that he thinks a lot of himself.
Role
A mundane life in the Loch and growing up a playright Hero

Rorhus is actually a quite mundane storm giant. He is the son of two
prominent but not too prominent, middle to middle and maybe upper but
mostly middle class storm giant merchant parents. He grew up in the Loch
with many of the storm giant kind there. There he spent most of his time
doing less than stellar things as life there was boring. Yes, sometimes
raiding parties would come, but they would mostly pick on the veterans
of the Loch, those war-weary giants. They were always being attacked but
for everyone else, life was normal and boring.
Rorhus dreamed of having greatness within him, but his lot in life meant
he was not to be on the council, nor a high up in the Loch guard, nor
honestly anything but a mundane merchant selling fish to other cities
and villages. He was a fish mongering storm giant of low-repute. Even
those within the Loch who were of his own social class looked down on
him for his family tattoo across his brow and his endless smelling of,
you guessed it, fish.
Rorhus greatly disliked how he was treated and not seen as the most
glorious storm giant alive. He spent endless hours in his childhood,
which was mundane mostly, at the dramatic plays and stage there in
Loch. There he saw plays of greatness with subject matter of heroes
that go out into the world and gain fame, fortune, and greatness
through great acts of kindness, sacrifice, and courage!
He watched these plays religiously and the dramatic nature of them
dribbled into his own personality. He started crafting himself and
his mannerisms after the heroes in these plays. He starts to speak
in robust and flowery terms, as if he is continually upon a stage
and acting out a role of his own.
AUTHORS NOTE: Rorhus is not deceiving in this regard, and while
chaotic in nature, this constant presence in his life of plays
and hero worship has made his personality what it is. So do not
believe it is deception or fakeness, this is truly who he is.
A storm giant of mild repute seeking to be great and learning
the only way to be great (and act genuinely great) is through
examples he has seen in plays, so he is growing up trying to
be great and be all that he has seen. Is he faking it to make
it? Is he confused and does not know his true self? Maybe
this is simply who is true self has turned into after his child
has passed. Time will only tell.
Fish for a day and become a hero!
Added Fri Nov 19 17:32:50 2021 at level 28:
Rorhus, as the son of a fish merchant had to spend his time on
the boats themselves. Going out and getting the needed fish to
be traded. He enjoyed his time as a sailor and fisherman but
still dreamt of the time he could be much more than what he is
now. He spent many young years on this ship, either on the lake
or the rivers nearby, or even journeys to the Sea of Despair.
Endless hours, dreaming, and wondering and hoping for an
adventure, and then at home, watching and learning the ways
of the hero from the plays he watched.
A year before his last birthday to become his own storm giant,
he was asked to go on a long fishing voyage to the Open Sea
and the Aryth Ocean. Not overly excited but something different,
Rorhus accepted the placement and spent the next year fishing
the Aryth Ocean and the Open Sea.
Little did he know that this trip would change his life. For
one day on the Open Sea, as Rorhus was the only one awake
on the fishing ship, pulling the midnight route. The nets
caught something, and something big! Rorhus quickly sprang
into action, as he was a truly seasoned and well trained
storm giant of the seas. Without waking any others, he pulled
the massive load up to the ship and onto the docks. Out of
the water came.....
A massive Commander Aboleth!
A dead one. Rorhus screamed with fear! His loud yell rousing
all that was on the ship. As they were scrambling to get out
of their captain, Rorhus panicked and even though the aboleth
was dead, he took a harpoon from nearby and stabbed it drectly
through the skull! He struck it over and over, to make sure it
was dead (it was quite dead before it got into the net). Out
of the cabins came the rest of the crew, only to come upon a
scene directly out of one of the heroic plays Rorhus loved
so much!
There, on the deck of the "Sea Spray" fishing ship from the
Loch of Terradian, stood Rorhus, the hunter of the greatest
evils known to storm giants, the aboleths. On that very deck
in the middle of the night, when a Commander Aboleth attacked,
Rorhus was there, harpoon at the ready to combat it. And
combat it Rorhus did, slaying the usually overwhelmly powerful
beast with one strike of his harpoon. Standing over its chilled
corpse all the sailors and fisherman saw Rorhus, the Great!
Let us say that Rorhus did not do anything to dissuade them
from that opinion, and so from that point on, Rorhus felt
and tasted, and lived, being a true warrior of the Light.
A Heroes' Welcome and the Fading Glory

Rorhus returned to the Loch a true hero. Many who would not
even think to talking to the fish merchant son, now happily
embraced him and sought his presence. The smell of fish became
trendy and many of the highest up socialites dabbed themselves
with raw fish oil only so they may smell like the hero!
For weeks, and then months, the story was told and retold,
and the drinks flowed to him for free as other bought them
to hear the firsthand account. Rorhus kept it vague, but
loved the attention.
Time although has a tendency to mute even the greatest
stories. Soon he became less of the talk of the Loch and
others stories rolled in which replaced his story in the
minds of the tavern goers and the gossips. He was slowly
returning back to just a fish merchant son.
By this time, the taste of heroship, how it warmed his
heart, and pushed him forward has become overwhelming.
He was of the age now to be his own storm giant, so he
hugged his parents goodbye in the Loch, promising to visit
but that he would go and find a path that would serve
his desire to be truly a hero and also to do good.
As he took his last strides out of the Loch, just at the
gate is a large bulletin board. Many pieces of parchment
are nailed to it, but his eyes are drawn only to one.
"Join the Fortress, Fight for Honor, Goodness, and the
Innocent. Be the tip of the spear against the coming
Empire and the denizens of evil.
Become a Maran!"
Rorhus looks both ways to see if anyone can see. Noticing
no one is looking, he quickly rips the Fortress parchment
from the board. Within one fist he holds it tightly,
crumpling the paper and with new found determination he
strives out into the lands to become a true hero,
a Maran.
