Description

Stark white hair runs just below the shoulders of this frail, almost skeletal drow. His face bears a perpetual sneer, and his eyes are like silvery slits against his jet-black skin. Disfigurement is a common theme for this weathered drow, and counting up all the aspects of him that make him seem disfigured is near impossible: One leg is longer than the other; his thumb and pinky finger on his right hand is longer than his index finger; his left leg is bent outwards slightly; his chest is unnaturally sunken in; and gray spots blot the back of his neck. Furthermore, these are all disfigurements noticable while he wears concealing clothing. The imagination can run wild at what physical defects run beneath his clothing. Despite his disfigurements, Runaktla seems to be unhampered by them, likely a product of his magics, or him just growing accustomed to them over time. He is generally fluid in his movements, albeit it is nearly always aided by visible magics, such as those that cause levitation or unnatural agility.

Role

Scions

Added Sat Jul 24 02:02:36 2004 at level 41:
Runaktla seeks to join the Scions of the Eternal Night.
His first encounter with anyone of the fold was with
Corilanth, a Necromancer of the Chasm. In his younger
yars he raided Akan several times with him and an orc
named Quorgan. After several raids an Orc named Thrawk
spoke to him, intending to kill and displace Corilanth
in the group. Runaktla disagreed simply because he had
enough problems trusting a single orc, let alone a pair
of them, and he had at least a small semblence of
patience when growing in power.

Runaktla later left the orc and necromancer, and he was
later attacked and slain by them. The orcs told
Corilanth that it was Runaktla's idea to displace him,
and Corilanth was angered.

Runaktla later extracted his revenge on Corilanth,
killing him and retrieving his more valuable items that
were lost. At this point Corilanth was a member of the
Chasm, and he threatened Runaktla, claiming that he
should not have made enemies with those of the Chasm.
Runaktla's retort led Corilanth to know that he intends
to join the Chasm, and he brushed aside the threat from
Corilanth that this would bar him from joining the
Chasm. His suggestion to Corilanth substantially said
that he greatly doubts that his membership in the fold
guarantees unwavering support from its leaders, both
mortal and immortal, and that he also highly
disbelieves that the Chasm's leadership would look down
on well-extracted revenge.

Scions 2

Added Sat Jul 24 02:32:09 2004 at level 41:
(continued role)
Runaktla's response to Corilanth caused Corilanth to
immediately change his tone. His conviction of his
weight in the Chasm dwindled, as he now said that he
write his missive, and see what that would do. This
caused Runaktla to further doubt Corilanth's ability,
and eventually their words with one another ceased.

Furthermore, at a later time, Corilanth spoke to
Runaktla to set aside their differences, and they
traveled to gain in power. Within minutes of joining
Corilanth granted items to Runaktla, and befriended
him, then not too much later, on his own devise, told
him that he had his recommendation.

In a situation with another Scion, Sargataneos had
fell in Hamsah. The presence of a nightwalker that
assisted him had shown Runaktla his affiliation. He
spoke with him, and traveled with him briefly. The
necromancer was pushy and demanding, speaking as if
he had great power. However, he littered the lands
with his corpses.

Yet again, with another Scion, Aytak, he had found
him to be very friendly and courteous in his brief
travels with him.

Scions 3 (Last and overview re: events w/ Scions)

Added Sat Jul 24 03:05:26 2004 at level 41:
Needless to say, Runaktla isn't overly impressed by
the current crop of Scions that he has met. As a
drow that has lived the majority of his life in the
Underdark, he inherently feels and lives the unspoken
belief widely held by many of his kind that those who
befriend and show kindness and courtesy too blatantly
leave themselves too open and appealing targets to
victimizers that want to control or destroy them.
Sargataneos on the other hand is an idiot that has
illusions of grandeur that are indeed only illusions.

All in all, although he still seeks the Chasm and the
fulfillment of its goals, he is astonished that he
has not met a single member of the Chasm thus far
which he believes would be a suitable agent of the
Chasm to a dimension that is rumored to harbor
black-hearted, malevolent beings.

On top of that, and in a less logical sense, Runaktla
is just flat out cruel, often using the pettiest and
weakest excuses to harm others, and to bring about
the death of others. He definitely is a victimizer.
Although now he keeps the Chasm's interests in mind,
he is tickled about the idea of sabotaging either
Sargataneos or Corilanth's attempts at the becoming.

As a Member of the Chasm (Part 1)

Added Mon Mar 28 01:26:42 2005 at level 51:
Runaktla has been a member of the Chasm for quite a while,
though little in comparison to his total life, very little.
In general, what he has seen from the Chasm's other members
is a far cry from impressive. Each one carries a fatal flaw
which renders them unsuitable for dealing with what is most
certainly the most murderous and treacherous of extra-planar
beasts - the Ccul'gra and their many deviations.

Judaao, although I'm sure is competent in worldly knowledge
and perhaps a soldier role, displays signs of affection and
brotherhood to the point that, if he were an emissary of the
Chasm in negotiation with these beasts, he wouldn't have the
ability to make the proper... sacrifices... of others...
weaker, for the prophecy's fulfillment.

Sythlindora, the Elementalist... she has shown no great
character or strength, nor ability to withstand our foes...
although her art of invocation is a very powerful one. Her
fatal flaw isn't that, however, its her trust and lack of
leadership in her craft, for she has much potential but it
is evaded frequently. In the several times I've traveled
with that one, she has been the victim of following others
into knowing suicide nearly every time.

Of course, this brings me to Chancellor Akscereh. When I
was first made a part of the Chasm, I quickly realized that
he was not made Chancellor for his prowess in leading a
"Dark" army. I joined him on a couple suicide attempts
under false pretenses before I realized this, and before I
came to the conclusion that I must watch out for my own
skin whilst a member of the Chasm. Naturally, I realized
Akscereh's role was not one of Chasm "Administration" so
much as it was his deep knowledge of the forbidden. For
that reason, and probably because his grotesque appearance
likely make the Ccul'gra at home amongst him, I believe he
is Chancellor. He also seems to... be on the "border" so
to speak, like that man beneath the Village of Azuremain.

(continued in next role)

As a Member of the Chasm (Part 2)

Added Mon Mar 28 03:03:08 2005 at level 51:
As for the others... Anubris is well... there... and that
is about it. Ounlee shows to be an excellent soldier but
nothing more and mirrors Judaao in the "brotherhood" sense,
although not as adamant about her friendliness to that
respect. Hmmnn... I would have never guessed that I would
even have to consider that years ago when I looked at the
Chasm from the outside. My time here has definitely been
insightful, but also certainly disappointing, at least in
respect to my... colleagues.

How would our Ccul'gra "allies" view me, then? I suppose
from others' eyes I appear bland of voice and opinion, but
I must remind myself my silence is intentional - partially
in wait so I may better see who and what I am dealing with
and partially because the majority of the arguments I may
be party to are over trifle things such as bodily coverings.
My role in those arguments generally is to play the thief
and take what I can unnoticed, and if noticed, perhaps hand
it over. Betrayal, Treachery and Greed all have their place
but I'm unwilling to let any true intentions known for such
insignificant and temporary gains.

Perhaps it is time for me to do less criticizing and more
acting. This missive from the Chancellor is appealing,
but perhaps I'll take it a bit further and pen a scroll
to The Muse soon.

Background

Added Sun Jul 11 21:07:08 2004 at level 34:
Runaktla is from the drow house of Menzobarrazzan.
House Menzobarrazzan is dedicated to slave and servant
training and sale. Runaktla's childhood was spent
learning under the tuteledge of the house elders in
respect to slave trade. Although he had some sort of a
knack in corralling and obtaining obedience from
slaves, he generally despised the job because it was
boring to him. Hence, his travels to the surface.

In regards to his sphere, Runaktla is fascinated by
death. He considers the threat and cause of death an
excellent means to achieve goals. Due to this, his
skill at diplomacy is somewhat limited. He isn't prone
to working out solutions that don't give him entirely
everything he wants, at little cost. If a person
irritates him, hampers his goals, or even disagrees
with him at the wrong time, he will either kill him,
or have him killed. If he is unable to do either, then
he is undoubtedly working towards being able to. He
also holds tremendous grudges.

In regards to his chosen class of magic, Runaktla
knew that he would be weak, very weak, at first. He
despises it with every ounce of his being, hating
every moment that he has to deal with someone that
bothers him. His patience, and knowledge of what is
to come to him, what power he will hold, is all that
keeps him stable. He has already tasted a small bit of
personal power, and his patience has been worn down
accordingly.
