Sarien the Avatar of Courage

I find myself in a state of disbeleif.  Despite my shortcommings, a
woman by the name of Arriku has taken to me.  I am not only surprised
by her affection, but I find myself having strong feelings for her as
well.  Her only desire seems to be to please me, which I find somewhat
surprising.

I am conflicted, however.  As I had thought the only woman I'd ever
come to love would have been my Holy Lady of Courage.  I need to speak
with my Lady, and let her know that I had desired her.  As she was the
first woman in my life, I feel that I must know her feelings before
moving forward.

Although distracting, none of the above happenings have taken me away
from my duty.  I am however, beginning to question my edict upon my
soldiers attacking in town.  As I look upon the blood tribunal, I see
that it is ripe with corruption, and I know it needs to be bled..However
I am reluctant to send my soldiers anywhere I cannot lead them.

Troubling times indeed, I must gain the wisdom of my Lady upon many
of these matters.

I know that, my honorable duty brings safety and joy to those whom
deserve such luxuries.  I am honored to take the blade to the heretics
whom would seek to harm the pure.  As I persevere through this heartache
I try to put most of my thought, and time into my service. While it is
only a temporary releif, concentrating my focus takes my thoughts away
from my failure to know the love of a woman.

The fact remains, however.  That I have devoted my life to warfare.
Over the years, I have washed blood from my hands countless times
upon returning to my quarters.  Unlike most of my kind, I do not
walk a path of peace.  My path is full of violence. I am sure that
my actions seem barbaric to many.  And to one as Ailinilia I must
appear quite the savage.  She is right to think so of me, for with
my duties comes murder.Murder is ugly...I am ugly.  I do not for
one moment blame her for her decision.

The truth is, besides my soldiers I have only ever known one other
whom has fully understood me.  I take solace in the knowledge that
she is always with me, guarding me and watching over me.  Had I
everything to do over once more..I would not have changed a single
action.

The war with the darkness rages onward, I find myself needing to
prepare my soldiers for the trials ahead.  I have tried to instill
them with a sense of temperance, for our enemies are cunning and
often seek to seperate us from one another, picking us off slowly
rather than facing the brunt of our assault.  These have proved to
be trying times for the fortress indeed.  However, I am pleased that
like myself my Maran and Squires remain steadfast in their honorable
duties.

I have come to find myself...drawn emotionally to one of the acolytes
Ailinilia.  I have confronted her with my feelings, and my desire to
spend my time outside of duty getting to know her better.  My heart
seems torn, as she seems to find difficulty letting me know of her
own feelings.  I had spoken to my Lady of comming to know the fairer
sex..however, I wonder if I am approaching it in the right manner.
It seems that only time will tell.

A dream came to me recently, one that I would not expect and as such
I was caught very off guard by it.  This dream seemed surreal..and I
must admit, my desire seemed to take the better of me as I gazed upon
the naked figure of the elven maiden bathing before me.I could not
mistake the resemblence this maiden bore to Ailinilia...As this was
not a conscious state, lust seemed to overtake me.  I have meditated
upon this, and will seek the council of my Lady.  I am ever thankful
that none were around to see the state I was in when I awoke, such
would have been an embarassment that I am not sure I could overcome.

Some many years have passed since I last wrote in this journal.I
continue to lead the Brigade of the Phoenix as their captain.  Many
have fallen during my years of service, and my heart goes out to my
brothers and sisters within the azure fields.  I wish their sacrifice
had been my own, their deaths are difficult to bear.

I am however, filled with pride by their sacrifice, as I look about
myself upon my travels I see many beautiful smiling faces, and so
much love in this world.  I myself pull upon the knowledge of these
pure innocent souls, and it gives me courage to continue to lead my
forces in this eternal struggle.

Every new squire hopeful that approaches me brings a warmth into
my heart, while I hide it from them it does make me happy to see
that so many are willing to take up arms against the wicked.  I am
honored to guide them in their goal, and try my best to instill upon
them the teachings of the Jaguar.  I hope that I not only gain their
respect, but also their love

Much has changed since I last wrote in this journal.  I still spend
my time in the honorable service of the fortress.  I have been asked
by my Lady to lead the Maran as their Captain.  Such an honor I had
only ever dreamed of.  My new duties while difficult, are not
overwhelming.  I do enjoy speaking to the young squire hopefuls
and guiding their quest to aid the light.

It seems I have caught the eye of an elven maiden whom works at the
local bar.  While I have told her our relationship can not extend
further than friendship, I must admit I cannot help but ponder upon
what my life would be like were I to have a wife.  I know deep down
it is something that I will never have, as I could not bear to have
someone I loved worry for my life whilst I did my duty.Still, the
thought of love does often come to my mind.

As I stand at the lead of my brothers and sisters in this great
struggle that I am a part of, I am filled with a new sense of hope.
I hope that, I am able to continue to lead the forces of the fortress
to victory.  I know that many will fall in this struggle, and that
knowledge does weigh heavy upon my heart, but it shant distract me
from our common goal.

As I continue to live within the fortress, my honorable duty brings me
to speak with the young squire hopefulls.  Although my best talent is
fighting as a soldier for the light, with Lady Baerinika by my side,
I do take pleasure in simple conversation during my times of rest and
meditation.  I am honored to learn of these fine young souls, and their
beginnings.  I have come to appreciate the variety of races whom have
come to stand before me, although I maintain that myself and my kin
are the purest to walk the lands, I am pleased that dwarves, humans
and giants have come to me seeking my good word on their behalf.

I continue to preach the word of my Lady to both my comrades, and
onto others.  Hoping that they will take the ideals of purity and
beauty into their hearts as I have.  Those ideals are what drive
my soul, and my blade as I deal out righteous judgement upon the
wicked.

I have come to realize that although I deal out righteous judgement
to the wicked in this world that, although I may strike down one
black of heart another is sure to take his place.  This may seem
disheartening to some, but I am reassured by the young and pure
of heart that I speak to.  My sword will be picked up once I can
no longer stand against the forces of darkness myself, and my
place too shall be taken amongst the front lines.  These young
hopefulls fill my heart with hope of the future.

I have been serving the fort as a squire some time now.My duty fills me
with pride when I contemplate the difference my sacrifice is making.  I
have spilled much blood, and bled for the cause.  Amidst the chaos of
battle, I have made many friends within the fortress, friends whom
would die for me and whom I would give my life for.

Every day I awake with renewed hope.  Hope that our cause will succeed, and
darkness shall be cut away from Thera.  As I walk amongst the free and pure
people of thera, I am reminded of what I fight for.  Their smiling faces and
bright spirit pierce the darkness around them.  They strengthen me, as they
look to me and my brothers and sisters to protect their lives, and the lives
of their families.

Through the graces of my Lady, I continue the fight.  Her righteous anger
added to my own, I feel no fear when standing defiant to the encroaching
dark.  I only wish I had more to give to the cause, although I do my best
there is always work to be done.

My life is filled with purpose.Although I often wonder how my father
would feel about my deeds.  Deep down I have come to feel that if he did
indeed know, he would be proud.Whether I see him again in this life or
in death I do beleive he will welcome me with open arms.

As I think back, I cannot help but remember the last time I looked
upon my home.  Our home was small, nestled just off of the town
green.  The village itself was also small, just a days hike away
from Darsylon.  I remember my father standing in the doorway of
our family tannery, looking at me with saddened eyes as i bid
him farewell.  Like many within our village, my father was
content to live in peace.  Although many in our village prided
themselves upon being pure, and good of heart, very few would
take up arms against the encroaching darkness.  They simply
went about their lives oblivious to the strife in the world
around them.

My father and I had argued at great length about my desire to make
my way to Darsylon proper, and begin tuitiledge as a Paladin.  Even
though my father worshipped the Lady Baerinika as I had come to, the
thought of bloodshed and murder disgusted him.

Although I had the utmost respect for my father, I did not share his
view on many things.  I have always beleived that the wicked must be
brought to the blade, and it was the duty of the righteous and pure to
do so.  Had he his way, I would now be working as a tanner with him.

Against his wishes, I left our humble house nearly eighty years ago now.
I have since trained long and hard in the art of combat, and gained the
inspiration of my divine Lady Baerinika.  As I think back, I feel a pang
of sorrow, but then I am filled with divine purpose and pride in what I
have done, and what I have become.

I have been accepted into the Fortress of light, my duties as a squire are
indeed new to me, but it feels as though I have been doing these duties for
years now.  It seems that most my tasks come instinctually to me, as I
fight for the righteous, and pure.  I hope only to be proven enough in
combat to some day take my place amongst the mighty Maran.  I must give
my best effort in this conflict, for it is not just a conflict for me but
for all free and pure beings of Thera.

I cannot help but wonder, if my father knew of my accomplishments..would he
be proud?  Could time have changed his viewpoint upon the things that we
once argued about so passionately?  Perhaps it was best that I left the
village, and have not returned.Maybe someday I shall make my way back
I suppose only time will tell.

My heart racing, trying to control my breathing I continued
to run.The path was steep and treacherous, I nearly lost
my footing while racing up the mountain.  I pressed onward
in pursuit of the orc I had engaged west of the Voralian
city.  I uttered a brief prayer to my lady, asking her
for the haste I needed.Alas, as I approached the
filthy path to the orc village within the mountains,
I had lost sight of my quarry, he was no doubt hiding
within his village cowering in fear.

Weighing my options, I decided to fall back to the dwarven
town of Akan, and wait for my prey to once again dare to
venture out into the civilized land.

As I approached the outer gate of Akan, a grisly sight befell
my eyes.  The guards laid dead, their body's hewn and torn
inspecting one, I saw bloody rips in his flesh, that appeared
to be from some sort of beast.  I continued forward with
caution, not knowing what could be lurking amongst the
streets waiting for me.

I followed the trail of carnage to the blacksmith's forge.
Upon entering the forge, I found no beast, but instead a felar
his armor spattered with blood, it was obvious he was the
culprit, I was baffled, for my Ladies power aided my vision
and I saw no red aura of evil around this felar, I stayed
my hand and started to speak.

Before I could utter a single word, the felar spun and attacked
me.  I barely brought my shield up in time to block the blow
from his spear.My sword whistled through the air as I swung
trying to press him back.  I Fixed my glare upon him and in
my mind bade my lady Baerinika to aide me against this foe.
A gust of air announced the flames as she answered my prayer
the stench of burning fur filled the room as his body was
seared with her divine anger.  I brought my sword down through
his blocking blow, ending his life where he stood.  Standing
over his charred corpse, I wondered what would drive him to
do such wicked things, a sense of sorrow gripped me for but
a moment while I considered what he could have done with his
life.  I looked toward the armorer, who seemed releived and
gave him a brief nod.

Wiping the blood from my sword, I knew this had been a victory
for the light.  Not the victory I had sought in the beginning
but a victory nonetheless.

As I left my Lady's ruins, I could feel her blessings upon me.  A
smile crept to my face as I remembered her beauty.  Truly she was
the paragon of purity.

Now the task is mine, I will bring hope to the pure, and the
blade to the wicked.  All darkfiends shall see the radiant
light that exists within my soul, and come to fear it in
time.

As I neared the city once again, I almost broke into a run
exhilerated by my faith.  I know that I will not fail, I
can not fail.

As I made my way through the city of Galadon, I could not help but notice
that the taint of darkness had taken up residence.  I saw many vile
creatures including orcs and duergar, and even a few of the hated drow.
I was saddened to see that a once noble city had fallen to such greed and
sorrow.

As I continued walking a sense of pride welled up within me, warming my
heart.  I knew that some day, I would be able to show the few pure souls
within Galadon that they need not fear the dark.  I Would be a fount of
shining courage, and through my deeds they would see evil for its true
self, cowering in fear of the righteous.  The thought of the judgement
of the wicked to come caused my heart to pound quickly, a subtle
excitement welled up in me as I continued to think of the hunt.

I knew that darkness and danger lurked nearby as I made my way down the
road to the west.  I was comforted by the fact that my faith in Lady
Baerinika meant that I would never walk alone against the darkness.
Whenever I think of the hunter, I cannot help but be filled with a sense
of courage, and conviction tempered only by my resolve.It is always
there, inside me this feeling of well restrained fury, ready to be
unleashed upon any who would harm the pure.

As I neared the mountain, I took a moment to reflect upon why I had come.
I would commune to my Lady, and ask for her blessing upon my quest to
liberate this land from the dark.  As i made my way up the mountain,
my pace quickened, my sense of purpose radiating deep inside me, knowing
the world was in dire need of cleansing.

Although he is a high elf, Sarien does not consider nobility to be something
one is born into.  For Sarien nobility is a way of life, he beleives ones
actions define whether or not that person is noble.

Sarien is very confident of himself, and his abilities.His courage fills
him with a sense of hope, and he beleives that by being courageous he will
bring hope to others, and inspire them to greatness.

Although he is a priest-knight.Sarien's actions and judgement are that of
a soldier.  His decisions inside and outside of combat are dictated by logic
and enforced with a cold resolve.

Sarien is ruthless in the pursuit of any whom would seek to harm those pure
of heart.  Although he knows he dabbles in murder, he thoroughly enjoys
the hunt of the wicked.

Like most elves, Sarien hates all drow, and orcs above all others.  However,
he holds even more contempt for those whom turn to darkness out of their own
free will.

Sarien beleives strongly in the idea of redemption, for those whom walk the
balance Sarien will often offer his hand in an effort to guide them to the
light.  For those whom hold evil in the heart, Sarien will offer them the
blade so they might be redeemed in the afterlife.

Sarien does not fear death, and is willing to give his life in the defense
of his beleifs, the prosperity of the pure, or those who have befriended him.
