Journal Entry: I (The Past)
Added Mon Jun 10 15:25:52 2013 at level 1:
I wasn't wealthy, that is why. I couldn't afford the pretty clothes and
fashionable things all the other students had. Children are cruel creatures,
so I got my habits honestly. I remember the first time I learned to hate
something. Her name was Anise, like the herb. She cut my hair. It happened
while I was sleeping, they had gathered around me in a group and were all
staring and giggling when I woke up. My hair was in her hand, still wrapped
with a cord. She threw it into the rafters. I cried and wished that I was a
bird so I could go get it and put it back. Even though I was there on
scholarship due to being scouted out for my love of knowledge and
exploration, I couldn't yet shift my shape, I couldn't even partially shift
yet.
If I thought it was bad as a child the teenage years were unbearable. I went
from wishing I was a bird to gather my hair to wishing I was a bird to escape
my tormentors. But somewhere along the way I began to wish I was a bird, and
then a lion. I pictured myself flying away but then returning and ripping
everyone that laughed to shreds. It is no surprised then that I had to flee
the tower for doing us that, almost. I have no guilt about my actions, not in
the least. They are the ones that led me to this behavior, they were too
stupid to realize the power of our magic, that they could even transform
their nails to claws so soon! And yet I am sure he is dead, his throat
exploded a remarkable shade of crimson onto my body. And everyone said he was
so nice and kind, but I know what he was thinking and where the situation was
leading. I won't delve there, it is in the past, and I am in Hamsah Mu'tazz.
I am advanced enough in the guild to pick up where I left off at the tower,
even if they do not have all the resources of the tower. I will fill in the
gaps with various knowledge from around Thera and I will rise quickly to what
is rightfully mine, regardless of setbacks.
Trapped and Hopeless, Never Again
Added Tue Jun 11 04:23:13 2013 at level 16:
Perhaps it was a bad idea, but I chose to go to the High Tower of Sorcery to
flaunt my new abilities. I had grown so much, I knew none of them recognized
me. I decided to go to the off-limit areas we were warned about as children.
I discovered amazing things. Creatures half shifted and trapped for eternity,
Masters who knew many secrets of shifting, knowledge floating around in books
that I couldn't begin to comprehend..One day.
I took a wrong turn, I found myself in a twisted city of elves and ghastly
creatures. I could not find a way out of this place that seemed safe, until I
discovered a portal. Ever hungry for new experiences, I walked through it and
found myself in an even darker place. The pure evil of it seemed to rip into
my flesh and taint my soul, I quickly left there too....only to discover I
was truly trapped.
I found a pool, thick with blood. Every bubble that burst from beneath it
sounded a wail of sorrow from beneath. I began to pity myself, a scared
little girl in a wide world, all alone. I frantically sent messages to all I
saw. Lissandra Davenport, a healer. Vordella, a Herald Shapeshifter, Andira
Tar'Monaghan, the Prophet of the Light. All messages were ignored but the one
to the Prophet.
I asked her, does the Light not practice forgiveness and hope? I thought to
myself, surely this can be a turning point in my life if these people show
kindness to me, maybe all is not as black as I thought. But no. It is
blacker. All of my requests were refused, I was left to die. Cold, hungry,
surrounded by plains of bone and ash, sipping blood from a Pool of Woe.
A defining moment of clarity. They are all hypocrites deserving to suffer as
I did. I may have starved to death in agony in a desolate and hopeless state,
but I have renewed my hatred of all things and will take my vengeance on
Lissandra Davenport, Vordello the Herald, and for you Andira, all of the
Light will know endless annihilation as long as I draw breath, and never let
me hear a word of forgiveness, redemption, or kindness sound from your
withered old lips you hag. You let me suffer, you will know suffering in
turn.
Research
Added Fri Jun 14 04:29:47 2013 at level 37:
The blood is flowing now. Hunting is thrilling to me. To think that I have
slain two Villagers now. Haters of magic. How ridiculously flawed they are.
The Village is an example of using power without thinking of consequences.
Such thoughts make me tingle with anticipation considering the direction I
wish my studies to take.
Corrupting the veil itself so that magic is inaccessible for those *I* do not
choose to wield it. Inaccessible or too inconvenient and dangerous. I have
began to study objects of power that, during their creation, twist and bend
magic itself. For example, a choker of black light. From a conjurer on a boat
that docks in Hamsah, I have found this object most curious. When it is worn,
it taints a conjurer's flow of mana to such that the conjurer throws magic
missiles made of negative energy instead of physical bursts. If I could break
this object, and many like it, down and separate their components, I could
see the common thread to the corruption within them, and eventually find a
link to the magic that flows through sentient creatures. It will require much
testing and research gathering.
I have examined the two corpses I created but found nothing in their organs
or blood of magic. I hypothesized and confirmed that once a creature is dead,
it is separated entirely from the effects of the veil, therefor you cannot
see mana flow through a corpse. My test subjects will need to be alive during
the information gathering in the future.
I have spoken with members of the Chasm, or the Scions of Eternal Night. I
believe the impressions I am making are favorable and I will have the
opportunity to engage the Advisor soon to discuss my research and ambitions
of joining their small group of scholars.
That is all for now, I am giddy with anticipation of filling these pages with
my research, for now I must continue to grow in power, find my protective
wands, and join the Chasm.
Research: Corruption of the Nether
Added Wed Jun 19 15:24:50 2013 at level 48:
The research project I propose will be titled 'Corruption of the Nether'.
During times of my studies I will be using living, dead, physical, and
metaphysical subject matter to determine if an individual may draw upon
powers from within or without of themselves to bring corruption to active
mana strands before they are utilized by a mage of any kind. The outcome of
this research will be a better understanding of 'how' this might take place,
if not actual corruption of mana for a mage not of the Chasm. With this power
we could determine who, what, when, where, and how ANY mage draws mana from
the veil by making the magic pool so diseased and twisted that no sane mage
would draw from it without approval.
At this time I have determined that a dead creature does not channel magic in
any way, including living dead but excluding mummies, wights, and Liches. I
have found common links in objects around Thera, as well as in various areas
of Thera. The most interesting phenomenon involves the magical abilities of
the various races of the Nightwalkers and the dome they've put forth around
the Ruins of Maethian. To this end, I have also witnessed Druk'Trar defiling
the very nature of this plane, and I believe the secret to this research will
be discovered through obeservation of these creatures. For this reason I have
begun to court these creatures and spend time pleasing them. They take the
most pleasure, I have found, in a victim's emotional state right before
death. I have specifically left several test subjects lying on the ground
helpless and let the Druk'Trar gather around the subject pre-death. I have
been having...odd dreams to say the least with regards to this process, one
in particular I was able to determine that these creatures know my goals and
are pleased by my actions. I will continue to be mutually beneficial with
these creatures until such a time that they provide me with the solution to
my queries or become useless toward my ends.
Secrets and Druk'Trar
Added Thu Jun 20 16:11:31 2013 at level 49:
They are watching me write this, it is very exhilarating. The Druk'Trar are
by far my most favored of all things in this world. I'm observing them even
now, tormenting a conjurer in the streets of Galadon. She is attempting to
crawl away, crying out for help that won't come. That is one truth that I
have found, one great revelation. The 'light' isn't real, there are no 'good'
people. There is no help or hope, you must make your way the best you are
able on your own. If you find yourself completely relying on others, you are
already dead.
I have thought of a plan to gather more information about previous
mage-plagues. I know that I need more information about the history of the
mage plague, or corrupting the nether, from previous times. It is not a new
concept, or at least it is not a new occurrence. Perhaps this is the first
time someone has purposefully tried to bring it about though, in a controlled
fashion of course. I had heard whispers of whispers that a creature called
'the anti-life' brought it about last time, and that it had to do with a
coming age of Thera and the Village among other things. Histories I have
researched have not given specifics. Someone out there knows things, perhaps
the Heralds. They do keep the histories. I know that if I ask directly for
information about bringing back a mage plague I will be thwarted before I've
even begun. To that end I will find a pawn to do my work for me and report
back his findings. I will find someone dedicated to magic and convince him
that there are already mage plagues running rampant, and we need to find
cures. I will ask him to make a calling to Thera to find out what everyone
knows and how to stop the plague from spreading. To this end I will use the
Light among all others to do my bidding, it will be positively delicious. Now
I just need to find someone to dupe and be convincing enough not to reveal my
true goals. It should not be very difficult.
Oh dear, they are watching me expectantly now. It looks like their fun is
over. Is it odd that I feel pleasure and not fear or disgust at this point?
That poor girl is ripped to shreds and they fed off of her fear and despair
for nearly an hour. I do feel my bond strengthening with the Druk'Trar, they
are pleased. And to that end, I will keep them pleased and continue to find
them prey to feed off of. Perhaps soon they will reveal more of their
secrets.
Of Heralds and Thickening Plots!
Added Tue Jul 2 20:38:01 2013 at level 51:
Her screams were oddly petulant and bitter when she died, she didn't seem
afraid so much as..insulted that I would attack her. The Druk'trar fed all
the same and hissed and clicked with pleasure as I devoured the corpse.
Saersha's blood and heart tasted sweet, though her liver and kidneys were
quite bitter. She got angry when she saw that I had taken two items, the
third I had pocketed beneath her notice. She demanded that they be returned,
that she was a Herald. I let her know that I would be twisting and consuming
the magic within the objects, Heartseeker and some sort of Medallion I was
unfamiliar with. She said that she needed both to help her with a future trip
to kill Tiamat. I made a bargain with her that she was to tell me of this
trip, of the dragons and the queen herself, and what she found in those
cursed ancient lairs. I returned her trinkets, and she seemed immediately
happy. It was then I asked her about the object I had pocketed, a spiral
amulet. The amulet itself had some sort of rodent inside of it.
She immediately became petulant and whiny again and said she needed the
amulet for an important task, that with it rodents could be controlled and
used. I informed her that I already knew how to use it, and that even as we
spoke I had gathered several mice to my side. She immediately began begging
me to tell her how to use the thing. I didn't think much of it at the time,
but as she seemed to have the mindset of some sort of hormonal and bitter
crazy creature, I left it at that and went on my way.
Later on I felt the need to be amused, so I struck up another conversation
asking if she knew the amulet could control squirrels. She said she knew, but
she didn't know how. I asked her then, why do you need to control rodents?
She immediately shared the information that Arvam Renau was trapped in a
mirage and she was going to free him. After very little prodding on my part
she shared that an individual who loves squirrels would help free him and the
squirrels were a part of the process. I asked if it was Lynnette, having
spent time in the Celestial Flames behind the inn myself. She said yes. At
that point she began to get nervous, realizing her forked tongue had shared
too much. Especially when I told her my Druk'trar were interested in aiding
this process instead of squirrels, and I felt that opening a portal to the
shadow plane would do most interesting things within the Celestial Flames and
possibly even free Arvam. She then asked if I waged war with Herald, I said
of course not, and that she mistook my intentions. Personally I wish to see
how the two places would interact, if Arvam should somehow be freed or not
freed in the process, well, that certainly isn't important to me.
Of Heralds and Thickening Plots! (Final)
Added Tue Jul 2 20:39:41 2013 at level 51:
At that point she began to speak of most intriguing things. She said that
Shamise had told her that I was working against Zhenyen and his attempts to
bring about a Mage Plague and if I did anything to the Inn she would inform
Zhenyen of me working against him. To myself I laughed, to her I put on a
nervousness to my tone. If you will recall I wrote that I was going to find a
stooge of some sort to gather information of the mage plague for me, this
ended up being Shamise the High Herald. Shamise swore herself to secrecy and
I told her that the other Scions were planning to release a mage plague on
the land and I didn't know how, but I needed to stop them. Shamise agreed to
gather all information known of the last Mage Plague for me (very little good
she did). I wrote a missive for her to send out to all the populace inquiring
if any mages were feeling ill or aggressive or feverish, and if anyone had
information on the plagues and their history to let her know. She has told me
a few things and has handed me research from the lyceum on the subject.
So somehow Shamise, who was sworn to secrecy, communicated to Saersha, who is
a shallow twit, all the things I told Shamise that I was trying to stop the
other Scions from doing (which were all lies to get the information I wanted
mind you) and Saersha thinks she is using this knowledge against me, knowing
full well what I seek to do is (from her point of view) work against Scions
and keep them from spreading a mage plague. I don't really know where I will
take this, but it should prove entertaining, after all, it involves Heralds!
Dimwits, Dwarves and Diamonds
Added Wed Jul 17 05:54:14 2013 at level 51:
As it would turn out there has been no shortage of entertainment now that I
have involved myself with these Heralds. What wretched creatures, sniveling
and afraid, defiant and close lipped. Truly I cannot think of one of them
that I wouldn't wish to strap down and slowly open up with my beak, letting
him or her watch as I peck out entrails and organs while they scream. That
being said, I have attempting civility lately and I have been researching in
the Lyceum.
Initially I became curious about the consequences of being involved with a
plan that eventually DID free this Arvam from his plight. Would the gratitude
of a God not go a long way towards my own goals? Could he be convinced to
assist me with my own? So in looking for information in the Lyceum I found
several texts linking him with places such as the Silent Tower, it became
apparent that in his mortal years Arvam had the same hunger and desire for
knowledge that I do. I even learned where his Mansion once was, and I visited
there with the High Herald. I convinced her to throw rocks at the windows and
break them, it was apparent as well that the Mansion was unguarded, yet we
could not enter. Magic. Oh to be the first to pillage and plunder that place
with all its artifacts, tomes, and treasures!
And yet..the Lyceum experiences put something of a tug on my spirit. It is
hard to explain. Typically there is a cold void in my chest, I expect it is
the place where love, happiness, excitement and such things go. Ever since I
learned about this Arvam, it has been pulling me back to the Lyceum. Reading
and researching more about the God himself led to something of a connection
between us. The tenets of his faithful were not demanding or overbearing, no
rituals or uncomfortable flagellation. Entertain yourself, entertain him,
cause sparks and stirs. Take each moment and devour it, make it your own. Is
this not what I have been doing? Am I not on the lips of crowds and creatures
every day? Surely even if they hate me they have been granted purpose in that
hatred, the anti-hero creates more shaking and moving than the hero who
allows everyone else to sit in idle comfort and safety.
Dimwits, Dwarves, and Diamonds (Final)
Added Wed Jul 17 05:55:53 2013 at level 51:
All this being said, I learned the connection I felt was shared when Arvam
revealed himself to me. A curious creature. Phasing in and out weakly like
one of my little Druk'trar. He is weak and vulnerable now, he explained that
it is because his connection to this plane has not solidified, but it would
in time, soon. Arvam and I discussed the before mentioned things, and he
explained to me that even if my soul is pitted black as a starless night he
would still be interested in seeing where we might go together. My only duty
to him would be keeping myself entertained and not becoming idle and dull. I
do not know how I will ever be comfortable considering it truly is the world
against me. But through these trials I have become stronger. If they do not
kill me they only make me stronger and harder.
For the future I will continue awaiting word from my Druk'trar as well as
researching the Mage Plague, I will continue to break my enemies bite by
bite, I will continue to assist Arvam in his reformation (specifically by
finding a dwarf by the name of Kahal and likely tying him up and gagging him
and delivering him to the Mansion), and I will continue to assert myself in a
position of power in the Chasm.
Kahal the Dwarf
Added Sat Jul 27 11:07:41 2013 at level 51:
Arvam made mention during our talk of needing to locate Banya's top chef,
Kahal the Dwarf. Ever the opportunist, Sehdara saw this as a good chance to
prove her interest and find favor with Arvam by finding the dwarf. Fear is
one of the top motivators that connects people, so the first thing Sehdara
did was inspire a puppet to send the following missive to the world:
From : Sehdara
To : Kulin
Subject: King Kirgni of Akan: Bring me the Dwarf Kahal! 500 gold reward!
Alive!
Below please find a proclamation from King Kirgni of Akan:
------------------------------
Murderous Kin-slayer!
Treachery most foul!
Find me Kahal the Dwarf.
I want him alive!
500 gold, 25 fire opal reward.
If he makes it to Banya first,
there will be no reward.
----------------------------
I will accept any information leading to the capture of this dwarf for the
king and act as intermediary if you do not wish to go to him yourself.
_____________
This did not create quite the buzz among the populace that she wished it to,
so Sehdara explained to Shamise who Kahal and Banya were, and why Kahal was
being chased. (In a completely fictitious tale Sehdara explained that Kahal
stole 5 sacred diamonds that were looted from Arvam's Mansion in his absense
from King Kirgni in Akan's personal treasure room. Sehdara explained to
Shamise that without these diamonds Arvam wouldn't be able to return)
From : Sehdara
To : Kreozi
Subject: DWARF IN THE LYCEUM, 250 GOLD REWARD SPLIT WITH YE
Greetins to yer Heralds,
I been huntin for this bounty since I seen it an I'm hot on the trail of this
dwarf Kahal. I seen him enterin the Lyceum, then I seen him inside it. I aint
able to get a vouch to drag him out, so I want you te know ye be harborin an
enemy of dwarfs! I will take him off yer hands an split the reward gems an
gold with ye 50/50. Two fifty gold to the Lyceum, thats a lot of damn books
and repairs!
So what say ye? Lets hand me that dwarf and split the reward! Otherwise could
I get a damned vouch!
Kreozi, Hunter of Dwarven Bounties
----
This one created quite more of a buzz. In fact, the Heralds have been posting
sentries at the Lyceum and actually going into the place of late. Kreozi the
puppet ended up getting paid 500 gold to cease seeking the bounty from King
Kirgni on Kahal.
So to make a long story short, if Kahal hasn't found Banya yet, he is
probably dead and gone, or bound up in chains on his way to a very confused
King Kirgni.
Plots, Plans, and Dancing Among the Puppets
Added Sun Aug 4 10:03:35 2013 at level 51:
For now it seems as though one aspect of Sehdara's weaving and webwork has
come to fruition. When she saw Saersha by Kahal the Dwarf's side she was
agitated until she realized that she was likely the reason Saersha even found
the dwarf. Later it was confirmed that her missive about the bounty had sent
him running from Akan to the Halfling Village, where the Heralds found him.
Arvam is free and powerful on this plane once more. Still weakened when she
last saw him, but gaining in strength every moment, he drew upon the life
forces of both Saersha the new High Herald and herself, the Advisor of the
Chasm. Unsure of whether or not she wishes to be used in this fashion at
first, she has now decided to use it to her advantage. It was explained that
Saersha was the binding factor of all that is 'good' and merry in the Light
and Sehdara was the binding factor in all the emotions that represent death
and the other side of Saersha's coin. Both are equally important to Arvam's
rebirth. Sehdara was very upset to learn this, though she hid it well at the
time, not wishing to be bound in any way to Saersha or what she represented.
One thing is certain to Sehdara. Power flows both ways from Arvam, and though
he may draw upon the life Sehdara inpires into Thera's population by her dark
deeds, she also has grown increasingly powerful through his mark upon her
wrist and being directly tied to his spirit. She knows that Arvam is also
feeding Saersha's strength and believes that if Saersha were out of the
picture, she would draw even more power from Arvam. A yinless yang is pure
darkness, and she will now focus all of her efforts relating to this aspect
of her life on bringing down Saersha until she is out of the picture. Perhaps
Saersha felt that Sehdara didn't like her and was working against her before,
but she hasn't seen anything yet. Saersha will be destroyed, her very essence
will be consumed and corrupted by Sehdara until the High Herald is smothered
from this world forever.
