Description

The tattered remains of scraps of clothes uncouthly lingers across the massive frame of the storm giant. Inlaid between the moth-holes plaguing the shreds resides deep furls, improperly healed scars chaotically strewn from wild rabid animals. Large muscles coiled underneath his scars spasm with anxiety, tormented by what they had done, as they attempt to escape his scarred tissues. A massive fist tightly grips a long hunting knife, glowing softly with an elven enchantment. However, the enchantment itself is not enough to keep the knife whole, as chips and cracks coloured crimson red appears across the blade. The internal struggle to tame his temper is abruptly shone by the fierce grimace plastered on his resigned face. The tips of his light blonde hair, split and charred midnight black, dangles unceremoniously across his face, nearly concealing the weary blood shot eyes staring forward with unusual focus.

Role

Entrance to the Fortress

Added Tue Dec 9 20:45:36 2008 at level 27:
Two elves arose before my sight. The first, translucent like the ocean,
with a tightly controlled expression etched on his face. The second made
me reminisce on the grim peacekeeper who supervised my duties in days past.
His commanding presence nearly dwarfed the rambunctious noise from the
patrons of the Inn of the Eternal Star. Eyes held tightly, frozen in
place by the constant stress of his duty, stared with an intensity that
drawed away my nervousness from the bouncers who remembered me quite well.

It was strange to see these two, obvious mentor and pupil, bickering like
children as they debated the ways of the Light. As I squinted my eyes
attempting to follow the rapid conversation flowing from the graceful and
quick tongues of the elves, I realized that it was not the Light they
were speaking of, but my duty and my heart. I have been stained by the
darkness for a long time, slumbering amidst the terrors that tormented my
night, always questioning the reason why I was left alive. Was it to
further the Dark Creature's cause, or was it my own sense of purity? The
inner demons that haunts me, I believe, strengthens my resolve, for as I
have seen so many moons ago, even the most graceful and pure of spirit
have some hidden darkness festering in their bosom.

Finally. In my daydream, I failed to realize that the Captain was staring
at me, judging my worth and my sense of duty. His ever grim words reached
my hearts as he asked me to recite what oaths I hold upon.

To confront darkness wherever it may appear, even to the depths of Hell.
To train my mind, body and soul, so that I may cut a swath of Light within
the darkness of nights. To hunt the darkness within the soul and purify
its existance. To strenghten my resolve in the oncoming swarm of impurity.

And yes, finally, to search for the Dark Creature so that I may eventually
forgive myself for my deeds.

"Welcome, Serth, to the Fortress of the Light."

I have found my companions to confront my inner struggles. I have found my
new home.

A New Hope - Baerinika

Added Sat Dec 6 15:35:21 2008 at level 18:
I trudged through the mist that covered my sight. Only the vague outline
of shadowy shapes offered refuge from the blindness that struck me. Yet,
I found it difficult, attempting to climb up the mountain as I yearned
for what I sought. I had shifted through may rumors, traveling far and
wide in search for the Elven Maiden, Baerinika, and within this misty
jungle, I believe my search has finally ended.

There it was, the rumored stone spear that points its way to the Gods.

Relief and a new sense of vigor clawed itself to my chest. For the first
time in many moons, I had the slightest inkling of hope, that sense of
confidence and focus that I once had in my youth. I stumbled toward the
spear, reaching out to it as it if were my last rope of salvation even
as the exhaustion that weighed itself down upon my body took its toll.
The bottled up emotions within my mind erupted in a cacophonous scream
of frenzy. "Maiden of the Jaguar, I come seeking...I come seeking
redemption and renewn faith!"

Even as my voice became hoarse as I strained my muscle, she came. An
Elven Maiden as fierce and as beautiful as rumored. Glowing eyes, knowing
of my pain, seeking to comfort me and give me directions, yet weight my
soul so casually and deeply. She came. Hefting a long spear imbued with
the essence of purity, stained with he blood of countless of those that
followed the path of the dark figure that torments me eternally. I had
found my new direction.

Our conversation, as it were (how do you converse with a Spirit?), was
brief. They were not the words that forwarded my intentions to the future
- no, it was slightest twitch on her face, the sheer expression of
sympathy and righteous anger that transformed her face into something
more terrifying than the rumored Underdark. As I ended my tale, I lifted
my trembling hand, grasping the knife that slew my beloved, and stared
at her eyes one last time as it judged my worth. Time slowed to a crawl
as I awaited her decision - just moments before, I had offered my service
to her so that I may carry on a new purpose.

"...Of course, I will accept you. And Serth...I forgive you."

The shock of those few words crashed down on my heart. To find forgiveness
from someone else was difficult to bear, as I have not even forgiven
myself for my deeds. To find a new purpose after so many years searching,
countless duties and tasks that I performed, even indulging myself in
overconsummation of alcohol, was beyond staggering. I gazed at her
shimmering form in wonder, in fright, and in resignation as she departed.
For many hours I was frozen in thought as I struggled with my past and my
future. What now?

Rising to my feet, I stared westward. The legendary Fortress of the Light
were the front against the darkness that threaten to overcome us all. A
good place to hone my skills against my inevitable fate with the dark
figure. Companions will be needed in the ensuing battle. Deep within the
I wished that, perhaps, I will be able to finally subdue my nightmares
with his mortal cry within the Fortress.

Aftermath

Added Thu Dec 4 00:53:02 2008 at level 1:
Every night that dream haunts my slumber without fail. I once sought a
peaceful and quiet life in Moudrilar's Monastery, meditating upon my
demons, seeking to forget that raspy voice and my love. To distance
myself from my past was my sole desire. Yet, even the calming natures
of the monks could not quench my torment.

I thought immersing myself in duty would ignore the dull throb festering
deep within my soul. Joining the Voralian Peacekeepers, I patrolled the
Eaststride Roads, protecting travelers from bandits. Each time a dark
being passed by, the beady red eyes and the raspy voice confronted my
vision. Out of fits of uncontrollable rage, I often found myself
delusional as I stood over the corpses of many 'innocent' travelers.
No, the peacekeepers of the Voralian City were no means to console my
demons.

As the last bastion of refuge, I traveled to the Inn of the Eternal
Stars. I had become a broken creature, senseless to any that spoke to
me. I drowned my sorry in booze after booze, so much that even the
bouncers would grumble and flex their fingers whenever I entered the
bar. May they be blessed forever for putting up with my shinnenegans.

even my drunken stupor did not end the constant nagging nightmares. I
dreamt as I always did - but I did not care. The hours waned, then days,
then months, as I struggled with my dessicated soul.

I do not remember when, but I heard of an elven maiden, so fair and
fierce that she was spoken about in feared whispers as much as in
boisterous brags. She was said to have the judgement of the Light behind
her, a spirit of vengeful retribution.

Retribution. Vengeance. Words that may one day rid me of my torment.
Yes, it is that creature I must find, that creature that bound me with
its presence, that branded me like a cattle. Only his end will cleanse
my soul and I can finally be with my beloved.

And with only the dagger I slew my beloved, I search.

Nightmare II

Added Thu Dec 4 00:52:31 2008 at level 1:
I remember...

The crunching sound of my fingers and wrists as my beloved screamed in
panic. The metamorphosis that she underwent was astounding. Her fingers
elongated as the song of the dark figure embraced her with its ill intent.
Her teeth transformed into fangs, piercing through her lips, drawing a
droplet of blood. Her face became more refined, if possible, giving her
an angelic expression. Well toned muscles overlapped upon itself,
sculpting her body into inhuman perfection. The panic in her voice became
sultry cry of lust as her once pure alabaster skin charred into ebony
black. And her eyes, her beautiful eyes that enthralled me ever since I
first gazed into them, lost its purity. The last of her voice screamed,
pleaded and begged me to end the misery, to keep her soul pure and
untarnished.

I remember...

Seeing before my eyes the trajectory of the dagger as it neared her
throat. My body was not mine anymore, my mind a dull void and my soul and
heart denying my hand in my love's fate. The blank expression that her
eyes as a softly spoken 'Thank you' resounded from her voice before a
thin line cut across her throat. A cacophonous roar of anger and
frustration from the demons that surrounded us followed by gurgles as my
sorrow and rage consumed me. They were lost beings - they no longer meant
anything to me. It was him. The one who started it all. He was the one I
desired.

I remember...

The final body ungraciously collapsing onto the ground. The dark magic
that held it squirmed as the corpse spasmed even in undeath. And yet,
none of the bodies were the ones I sought. Fatigue threatened to tear
apart my muscles as I searched through my hazy bloodied vision for the
that one. Stumbling across the twitching bodies, cutting a swath through
what the sliced remains of the body parts that even now sought to tear
me apart. But no, I could not find that one, that shadowy presence that
implanted its brazen existance in my mind. Rampantly running amok through
the dense forests until finally collapsing from sheer exhaustion. The
indomitable lull of unconscious creeping through my body.

I remember...

The raspy voice of that creature.

My beloved's last moment.

And I awake.

Nightmare I

Added Thu Dec 4 00:51:58 2008 at level 1:
I remember...

The stars sparkling brightly, lighting the the dying embers of the
campfire. The peaceful breathing of my friends and comrades, sleeping
softly after a long day of hunting. An enchanting beautiful melody
whistling through the trees, whispering a sweet lullaby of contentment.
Clasping my beautiful Joelin's hand as we held each other in a lover's
embrace. Her blonde hair, groomed to perfection that even the the finest
of silk would not match. A body that even a Goddess would sigh in envy.
And those eyes, staring deeply into mine as she playfully bantered of
our future.

I remember...

An overwhelming presence, so corrupted that the woods themselves turned
to ashes. The gentle winds howled with rage that such a blasphemy that
approached us existed. A hazy figure encroaching upon us. Those eyes,
deep with hatred, shining pools of unalduterous evil. Those chilling
eyes, glaring at us with brimstones raised from the very depths of hell.
The raspy voice emerging from this figure, cutting through my mind and
paralyzing my body. I imagine the words themselves, if translated, would
be able to slay a God by their sheer hatred.

I remember...

Bodies around me, bodies of my comrades and friends, stirring like the
the undead risen from the ground. Their muscles twitching and convulsing
as they kicked off their blankets in fits of rage. Their voices rising in
the air in perfect synchronicity with the dark whispers that permeated
the air around us. Spittles of drool and blood flew from their mouths as
they gagged on their own vomit. A dark metamorphosis engaging each of them
as they slowly transformed into what should not exist. The embers in the
campfire grew bolder, standing against what is only natural, into a fiery
black inferno, jumping like ifrits as it spread and consumed all around
it.

I remember...

One by one, the grotesque monstrousities who were once my kin stumbling
awake. The void held no bearing to the soulless husks they have become as
they stared at me with hunger. The all consuming raspy voice of the figure
echoed from their snapping jaws. Beasts, monsters - no, they have become
thralls of the dark figure. They glared toward my direct almost as if
expecting instructions, or possibly, awaiting a change.

Prelude

Added Thu Dec 4 00:50:40 2008 at level 1:
Dreams....

Every night it is the same - the feeling of despair and hopelessness. I
remember like it happened moments before. How could I not when her ever
loving eyes stare in the back of my mind, burning an infinite amount of
tiny holes into my conscience? Her lucious smile, her gentle sky blue
smiling eyes, the quirky expression on her face whenever she knew I was
lying. An incomplete life without her - no, a voided life, with no hope.
Only remorse.
