Description

Pointed ears slightly protrude from a disarray of deathly white hair. Eyes of a haunting crimson red, long adjusted to life in the underdark, flicker keenly at the surroundings. Thin lips portray the beginnings of a feral snarl, sharpened teeth protruding. Tribal tattoos in runic patterns seemingly cross every part of his body, marring his otherwise pale gray features. Flayed skins of elk and lion adorn his lithe frame, and the shadows of dyed cloaks whisk about in an eerie fashion. The wildness of this drow elf emanates from his savage yet certain demeanor.

Role

A Problem Child's Potential.

Insolent, annoyingly rude child.

So the thought pass into and out of the mind of the Matron Mother of
the sixth House of Teth-Azeleth.  Were it not her own son the boy would
certainly be no more.  But she tolerated these slights, not out of a
motherly love of course, but because the boy exhibited talents in his
trainings.  A new weaponmaster would be needed in the coming century,
and few candidates so far rivaled the potential of this one, Sezaryal.

Yet, still, the inquisitive arrogance of the child grated her nerves.

Every day, every moment, the boy seemed to challenge something.  Those
from the surface would mislabel it as seeking justice, fairness, or such,
but she knew pride when she saw it.  And her son was prideful.  There
was no boundary, no box, that the child did not challenge, and this lack
of conformity in Teth society soon became difficult to conceal.

Was the boy's potential worth putting up with the trouble, or worse?

But she had had enough of this contemptuous child over fifty years and
she used her connections to send him away for a time.  The child would
burden another, and she used the debt of favor owed from the First Matron
to send the boy to the overworld, to High Lord's Keep, in service to the
Emissary Fralstatil.  Let the sorcerer deal with him and sharpen him
so with her mystical ways.

If she could not tame the boy into place, surely the structure, and fear,
of the High Lord, would.  And if not, well, then, one less thread to weave
in the tapestry of her plans.

Of Crowns and Collars.

Fralstatil hated her time at the Keep.  The magical pursuits were leading
nowhere, and she felt herself a captive here.  The years had grown worse
since the arrival of Sezaryal.  The boy was baffling in a disrespectful 
manner and her ire grew.  She was no caregiver, and she lorded over him
with the utmost contempt she could offer.

The boy was a lousy display of drow heritage himself.  He bristled and 
sulked about the Keep, trying to hide his disdain for a variety of things,
but Fralstatil was keen enough to notice it.  Anger at the structure of
expectations, forlorn at the captivity of the menagerie, and anger at
his own station of servitude.  He even sneered in contempt at the works
of the High Lord each time he passed by. It was a rich collection but
without any purpose but to impress others, frivolity at its worst.

Even the Emissaries were not political allies, no, they were trophies of
the Keep's Lord on display for his own collected amusement, interests, and
cachet.

The realization set in.  The boy was nothing more than a pawn figurine
locked behind the glass of a fine cabinet.

Passed from one crown to another, from one collar into another, so he
toiled without command of his own future.

Though the boy did not say it, he felt the invisible shackles tighten day
after day after day, like a collar slowly choking him of breath.

The Sound of Silence Gone.

For all the appearance of an ordered drow society, chaos yet flourishes.
When the sixth house found its ambitions too great, and its alliances too
opportunistic in their own desire, well, then there was no house any longer.
The nobility were purged, and the remainder assimilated. 

Yet word in and out of the Keep had decreased over the years, and memory of
Sezaryal forgotten.

Separately, over the years, those of the Keep had enough of the prideful
and contemptuous drow.  The High Lord did not want to fracture any 
relationship with Teth, and as such, chose to cast Sezaryal out of his Keep
to wash his hands of the nuisance.

Sezaryal found himself set outside within the swamps, wandering for the
first time all on his own.  He grinned, eager.  For now no crown, no collar,
was upon him pressing down in some sort of oppressive way that he could not
shake.  He was free.  Free from oppression, free from the conformities and
expectations of society, free of the captivities of wealth and safety.

Suddenly, the crushing silence of isolation, of dread, disappeared and a
symphony of sounds of nature filled his ears.
