Description
Though she appears to be mostly human, slightly pointed ears and a dark tan
color betray this girls mixed heritage. Her hair, a deep auburn to be almost
brown, is shorn short like a boys. Well toned muscles tense below sleek arms
and legs, waiting to explode with pent up energy. The intent gleam of a
predator shines from deep within eyes like brilliant twin sapphires. A
mischievous curve to her full lips and the slight nuances of femininity are
the only cues that this slender girl is indeed female.

Life is rough for the tribes of the deserts. Culled for their "crimes" by
self-righteous guards of Hamsah Mu'tazz. Used in vile rituals by the Scions
of the Eternal night. Every day was a fight for ones life. There was no
thought of good or bad, right or wrong, any of the questions of morality that
plagued people with too much time on their hands. There was only survival.
The search for food, water, and shelter. The sands became our haven. We
learned to cope, to survive, to become the bandits of the wastes. We still
had trouble from the occasional brave group of Scions or Guards and the pesky
bird people who stalk the nights made off with the unwary, but we became
stronger for it. I was born to these people, raised as a child of the dunes.
My name is Shiyr Sandstalker and this is my story.
My father was a member of an elite group of guardians, those who protect are
people from the shadows of the swirling sands. It was how we got out name
which has been passed down in our family since before my grandparents could
even remember. My mother is an unusual case in that she was a half-drow. How
she came to be, I don't know. What I do know is that she was a slave in
Hamsah Mu'tazz and fled from the city after she did something to displease
her master. More than that is never discussed so I don't know the details. My
father took an instant liking to her exotic beauty and took her as his wife,
to the consternation and displeasure of the Elders. My mother gathers food
and minds the tent and children. It is expected of the women of the sands and
as such I was trained in gathering food and herbs and even how to tend
wounds. However, this is boring work and I'd often sneak out to follow my
fathers tracks around the desert. While he was never pleased when he caught
me, he couldn't deny me anything when I grinned at him.
During a particularly powerful sandstorm, mother bumped into the chief's son
knocking him to the ground. He was outraged and struck my mother. My father,
in his rage, attacked the chief's son. Unfortunately he got a knife in his
gut for his trouble. My father died that night and my mother and I were
banished from the village. Soon after my mother died of grief and I was left
to wander on my own. I was sad for a time, but in a way it's liberating. I'm
free to go my own way and make my own choices. Free to hunt the shifting
dunes with wild abandon. Only the Sands of Time can foresee my future now.
