Description

A brilliant radiance gathers before you in the form of a mystical gnome. He is covered in a thick grey skin which is covered by a long light-blue robe. Made of silk this robe depicts the occurance of the moon crossing the sun. A dark hood is filled from the inside by a bright smile and glint of shining teeth. Large brown eyes seem to be glazed over from the great light. He holds himself steadily as he treads his path and makes little notice of the world around him.

Introduction:

I can remember back to the days of my youth. A time when one is influenced
by all that transpires around them. A time when one believes everything is
spoken as straightforward and true. It was during this period of my life
that my father spoke words that would never abandon me. A simple philosophy
that would not only shape my future, but the futures of those around me. 

'Be who you are' he had said in a voice as solid as the stone beneath our feet.
Words that could only have been of the utmost importance. My father was a most
carefree and eccentric man. He had deviated from the customary tinkering of our
kind to persue, in his mind, something deeper. And for him to have spoken those
words as he had, they may very well have been the most important words he had
ever spoken.

'The path forward is paved by both action and choice' he had always said. Words
of a less direct nature, but important nonetheless. Apparently, he had learned
this from my mother. The daughter of WillowWood's Master Mason. An intelligent
and charismatic woman in her own earning. Her attributes only magnified by my
fathers. All of which I seem to have inherited.

I am Solec zhen'Kal WillowWood. Or as the inhabitants of Inner Thera have come
to know me, Solec of WillowWood. The following is the collected workings of my
life. I apologise for the lateness of its scribing, and will do my best to see
that it is accurate and informative. May the information contained within help
guide your path forward.

Leaving WillowWood:

I can still remember the day I chose to leave WillowWood. It had been the most
difficult decision I had ever made. And to this day, it remains so. Departing
from everything I had come to know, and cherish, and love. Friends I had known
for most of my life. Family I had known for even longer. The very thought of
leaving my mother and father sickened me physically. But this is where my path
was to lead me. Southeast out of WillowWood, across the Shimmering Mountains,
and into, what I would come to know as, Inner Thera.

In the days leading to my departure, I had begun to feel ill. To be truthful,
it had been this 'illness' that confirmed my decision. Never before had I been
so overwhelmed by pain and confusion. What started as a slight discomfort, had
quickly accelerated into a burning fever. Nothing could be done to quench my
ever rising temperature. Nightmares soon plagued my dreams. Visions of my body
contorting until it became one wild animal or another. But this was just the
beginning. Little did I know that in the coming weeks, I would take my first
steps toward a new life. A new Solec.

Soul Shifting:

Days had come and gone. Symptoms that seemed only to intensify, had gradually
begun to subside. No longer was my body covered in tiny motes of light that,
of all things, attempted to penetrate my skin. And for the vast majority, had
succeeded. The twisting into, and piercing cries, of vicious beasts no longer
haunted my dreams. Pain that had nearly rendered me incapable of movement had
all but dissipated. In fact, I had never felt more alive.

As I passed through the forest, nearing the base of the Shimmering Mountains,
I was forced to a halt. I had known I was being followed. And now before me,
stood a massive human hefting a wicked spear. Never before had I felt my life
threatened. Likewise, never had I been filled with such energy. It was within
these moments that I would experience my first partial soul shift.

I remember his advancement as a malignant saunter. Casual, yet menacing. Eyes
as black as the night stared directly into mine. I could feel my muscles begin
to solidify. Hope of escape dwindled with every step he took. Surge upon surge
of contained energy puslated through my unresponsive form. And then it struck
as lightning strikes the ground. Tension melted away giving freedom to my arms
and legs. Rather then flee, my lips whispered words unknown to me. A twinge in
my fingers was the only warning as razor-sharp claws tore through my gloves. I
then crouched into the only defensive position I knew, and awaited my attacker.

I would like to think that it was my courage that caused the man to leap away,
abandoning his attack. But as he rolled to his feet and stood erect, I noticed
the mark of the Great Wild Beast. The Ma'rin, Initiates of Saraba, roamed the
forests of WillowWood in number. Primitive, and instinctual beings attempting
to return as the spirits that once inhabited Thar-Eris. No, courage would not
deter this man from his destiny.

He stood approximately a dozen steps away, the butt end of his spear resting
firmly on the ground. His body held a passive, yet controlled stance. Raising
his head, he inhaled deeply through his nose as if trying to gather my scent.
His night black eyes once again met my luminous blue. Only, the violence had
faded. Replaced by something... Else. 'Be free, Soul Shifter' he barked before
turning and vanishing into the foliage. Could it have been understanding that
lurked behind those dark pools? An acceptance of what I was to become?
