Description
The young gnome before you is barely three feet tall
with a compact, wiry build. He has warm sunkissed peach
skin that is dotted by faint freckles across a proud,
bulbous nose that twitches constantly as if sniffing
out the next big thing. His large, bright hazel eyes
are flecked with gold glitter and have a restless, almost
manic energy, darting quickly from detail to detail and
giving him the perpetual look of someone on the verge
of excited discovery or wild revelation. A wild mop of
chestnut-brown hair explodes in unruly curls, paired
with large rounded ears that tilt subtly to sounds. He
also has a youthful, patchy reddish-brown beard sprouting
along his jaw and chin. His round, boyish face has apple-red
cheeks that dimple deeply in wide grins revealing a slight
tooth gap. His small, nimble hands have long fingers that
constantly twitch or trace patterns in the air. Overall,
he radiates buzzing kinetic vitality, his compact form
has a coiled energy and a wild outward appearance of
boundless gnomish curiosity.

Sprocklin Snicklespring meets Death (Part I)
Added Wed Dec 31 11:31:44 2025 at level 11:
His tale begins in Hillcrest. His childhood burrow was built into a flowery
hillside and he had a perfectly peaceful life. He was born under a bright waxing
moon which his parents declared was perfect for a life of wonder and invention.
His family had always been devoted to the quiet arts of tinkering and trade with
no care in the world for the turbulent wars of greater Thera or magic.
His father, Bindle Snicklespring, was a beloved master craftsman whose workshop
echoed with the whir of gears and the ping of hammered brass. Bindle invented
practical marvels like self-stirring pots, puzzle-box safes, and collapsible
carts that made merchant travels easier. He took pride in pure mechanics and
often said, 'A well-turned gear turns the world' His creations sold steadily,
bringing comfort to the family burrow.
His mother, Mira Snicklespring, ran the bustling shop fronting their home, a
cozy stall overflowing with gadgets, baubles, and oddities. With her quick smile
and sharper tongue, she haggled masterfully, turning scraps into profit and rare
components into inspiration for Bindle's next project. Mira had an eye for
people's needs and a gift for storytelling that made every sale feel like
sharing a secret. Together, Bindle and Mira built a warm, balanced life centered
on family, craft, and community. Sprocklin was the middle of three siblings..
His elder sister, Lira Snciklespring, was already deep into her apprenticeship
with her father at roughly 120 years old. Precise and bookish, she poured over
ancient schematics to refine designs, gently scolding her siblings for
'frivolous' ideas while secretly cherishing their chaos.
His younger brother, Dash Snicklespring, barely 40 and a whirlwind of mischief.
Dash 'tested' inventions in spectacularly unwise ways like launching himself
across burrows with spring-loaded boots or rigging doors to dump flour on
visitors. He trailed after Sprocklin like a shadow, wide-eyed and eager.

At a youthful 70 years Sprocklin spent his days immersed in this lively world.
He polished fittings in Father's workshop, ran errands for Mother's stall, and
ran through the hills with Dash, laughing over exploded prototypes or
half-finished dreams. His own curiosity burned brightly. He sketched
waterpowered mills inspired by Hillcrest's streams and crafted tiny wind chimes
that sang with coming rain. Evenings brought the family together around the
hearth, swapping tales of old gnome explorers who outwitted dangers with wit and
wire.
One spring day, heavy rains swelled the underground river that threaded beneath
Hillcrest's caverns. Drawn by its thunderous new voice, Sprocklin slipped away
to explore. He was hoping to study the currents for a grand tidal engine he'd
been doodling. Deep in a glistening cave, torchlight dancing on wet stone, he
edged along a narrow ledge. The footing crumbled. The roaring water seized him,
dragging him down into black, freezing depths.
He fought, lungs burning, but the river was merciless. Darkness closed in. His
last thought was regret. For unfinished sketches, for Dash's next prank, for
Mothers worried call at supper.
Then came the gray realm of death, the inbetween place.
His spirit drifted free of his body, weightless in a vast, misty expanse where
faint moonlight filtered through endless fog. Before him loomed Death. He wasn't
the childish skeleton of tales, but an immense hooded figure, cloaked in
shifting shadow that drank all light. his presence pressed like deep water,
ancient and inevitable.
Around Death drifted countless luminous souls in the form of pale orbs and wisps
that trailed silvery threads of essence, floating as if caught in a slow
current. Death reached out with long, bone-white fingers, gathering those
threads with deliberate care. It wove them together, murmuring words in a
language that hurt to hear, drawing the soul light into itself. With each
weaving, spells formed into dark, shimmering glyphs that hung in the air before
sinking into Death's form. The figure grew subtly brighter, taller, stronger, as
though feeding on the stolen radiance. Souls dimmed and frayed in the process,
their peaceful drift twisted into something hungry and incomplete.

Sprocklin' tiny spirit hovered unseen at the edge of this harvest, horror
rooting him in place. One soul that had a faint elven glow cried out silently as
its thread was plucked and spun. Death paused mid-gesture, hood turning slowly
until hidden eyes fixed upon the watching gnome.
A wide, lipless grin split the darkness beneath the hood. It was knowing,
amused, almost conspiratorial, as if Death had been waiting to be caught in the
act. The grin promised this was no accident..this was routine, eternal, and now
witnessed.
Before terror could fully claim him, Death's hand lashed out, not in anger, but
in dismissal. It seized his spirit and hurled it backward through the gray, a
violent shove that burned like ice. The grin lingered in his mind as everything
spun.
Back in the cavern, his limp body tumbled into a shallow eddy near an upper
grate his father had installed years ago for flood safety. Bindle, frantic after
hours of searching with Lira and Dash, had triggered his newest rescue
contraption. It was a spring-loaded 'back-thumper' rigged to the grate. A
weighted piston slammed rhythmically against Sprocklin's back, forcing river
water from his lungs in heaving coughs.
He awoke gasping on the cavern floor, torchlight blurring, family voices
shouting his name. Water streamed from his beard. His chest ached as though
Death's hand still gripped it. The grin burned behind his eyes. Something vast
and wrong had looked back at him.and let him go.
Changed in ways he could not yet name, he let his family carry him home. But the
river's song now sounded different, and the moon's light felt colder. In quiet
moments, he flexed his small hands, wondering how a gnome might ever stand
against what he had glimpsed.

In the weeks that followed, Hillcrest's cozy burrow felt too small, its hearth
tales too light. Sleep brought the gray realm rushing back. Waking hours carried
the echo of that knowing grin. Sprocklin could no longer lose himself in
sketches or gadgets. The river's song outside now sounded like a warning, and
every flicker of light reminded him of stolen soul-threads.
He came to believe the vision was no mere dream. He felt he was pulled close to
the great current and shown the perversion at its edge. Magic fed the very
hunger that twisted the cycle. One day, when his own eddy ran dry, he would face
Death again. He would not go unarmed or unprepared.
Quietly, without ceremony, he packed a small satchel that was little more than a
change of clothes, a few keepsake tools from Father's bench, and the wind-chime
that sang of rain. He told his worried family only that he needed to see more of
Thera, to train his body as he had once trained his mind. Bindle pressed a
sturdy axe into his hands 'for splittin' wood, lad, or whatever else needs
splittin'. Mira hugged him fierce enough to crack ribs.
Under a waning moon, Sprocklin left Hillcrest's hills behind and followed the
trade roads southward to the great city of Galadon. There, amid the clang of
forges and the shouts of warriors, he sought the Warrior Guild. If Death wielded
spells woven from souls, then steel and fury would be his answer. Strength
enough to stand against magic's theft, and one day, perhaps, against the
grinning harvester himself.
Sprocklin the Berserker
Added Tue Jan 6 08:12:09 2026 at level 40:
Years of relentless training has transformed Sprocklin Snicklespring from a
wide-eyed gnome fresh off the trade roads into a scarred and furious berserker.
The path to the Village was unforgiving. He had slain his mage, sworn his oath
at Tahren's forge, and taken his place among the applicants. He fell in battle
countless times, each resurrection at Galadon's temple reinforcing his grim
beliefs: in the unseen lapse between death and rebirth, his spirit grazed the
gray realm, and he hurled silent defiance at the grinning harvester. Magic, he
knew, was a poison that Death feeds on to grow more powerful. When spell-touched
souls rejoined the great river, their corrupted essence granted power to the
reaper and weakened every future life they would live.
One fateful day, Sprocklin took a calculated risk against a powerful
necromancer. The battle turned against him swiftly. Dark sorcery overwhelmed his
rage, and he fell. As his spirit slipped toward the familiar gray mist,
something changed. Before him stood Panmorne himself. The deity's voice crackled
like splitting iron as he spoke directly to the fallen gnome. He praised
Sprocklin's refusal to whine or make excuses despite his lowly applicant status,
admired the gnome's fair spirit and unbroken resolve in defeat, and declared
that such a heart deserved more than the outskirts of the Village. He granted
the gnome a hut within the true Village and welcomed him fully into the savage
brotherhood of Battleragers.
From that day forward, Sprocklin has carried Panmorne's lesson deep in his
chest: meet every setback with honor, keep words and actions fair, and hold the
chin high no matter the blow. Now dwelling among the Berserkers, the small gnome
hones his fury ever sharper. He prepares for the distant day when he will face
Death not as a fleeting shade, but as a warrior armed with steel, rage, and
unbreakable will.
Braving the Depths Once More
Added Fri Jan 16 10:24:27 2026 at level 51:
It happened. After many river swims Sprocklin met with Rarywey.
He was able, for the first time, to truly reflect and speak about his encounter
with Death. He sought Rarywey's own wisdom and experiences with Death, the
entity, to know if his path was one that was true.
The biggest piece of wisdom he found was that Death itself could not be a mage,
and likely Sprocklin could not and would not need to defeat Death upon his
returning to the great river. He knows that SOMETHING is different about the
souls of mages, he knows that they come out of their lives weaker than they went
in. He knows they are fouled upon the acceptance and invitation of magic.
He will continue on his current path of strengthening his own soul, and those of
his comrades. He will pay Death his dues in his own blood, the blood of his
soldiers, and the blood of the enemies of the Battlerager Village.
He is Drillmaster now. His is the responsibility to rebuild the Battlerager
Village. He takes it very seriously and he understands that the Village's
greatest strength is not the blows of death, ponchos, patches, or any battle
technique they could learn. It is their history. Their heritage. The stories of
those that have come before them, their deeds and actions. He has made it his
mission to remind current Villagers of their history.
He has assigned every villager the task of going into the Lyceum and reading the
History of the Village. He has instructed them to pen him three key takeaways to
their experience. Any villager who has not submitted their findings to him in an
appropriate amount of time will be relieved of their hut until they complete the
task. Sprocklin would rather have an empty village than one that fights without
true purpose.
More to come.
