Description
Terrible and ferocious is the feline creature seen before you. So alien
and twisted is the dark creatures appearance, that it can not be said to
be ugly...but rather beautiful in a strange deadly sort of way. Black as
the deepest depths, as it moves in the light you notice shimmering grays
that help further concealment in the darkest places of the world.
Eyes stare back at you with an odd sort of luminescence that seem ill
suited to the light of day. Its paws sport odd but powerful claws which
never seem to fully retract and are almost as abhorrent in nature as the
feline thing before you. It's every movement is primal in nature and even
the armor it wears is an imitation of beings more human and a higher
developed instinct for survival.

The Thirst - Part 1
Added Mon Feb 28 13:03:49 2011 at level 23:
In the depths of the tunnels it half crawled and half ran. It moved at
times as a creature and at times as a humanoid, sliding its movement
between two and four legs as the terrain demanded. The claws extending
from its paws were ferocious and though it moved unseen, the scratches
left behind were like no other feline roaming Thera.
The world in which it hunted now was the world in which the thing had
been born. Cold and dark, only the strange radiation of the Underdark
gave off any sort of heat in these tunnels far down in the depths of the
world. That and the lingering breath of the travelers who had passed
this way, the heat of their life blood, and most important of all, the
strange scent of magic that drove the restless feline closer with a
hunger needing to be sated.
The meat would taste good. The warmth of wet blood would thrill. But it
was the magic it sought, the destruction and consumption of which would
drive back the madness and deafening throbbing that shot through her
skull...for a time, for a day, till the next victim came into her prowling
territory.
The feline creature came upon the camp in a space that could only be
described as a widening of the tunnels. Three companions, two warriors
and a young mage barely more than an apprentice paused in their travels
to rest. They were far from home and obviously regretting their
adventure as they huddled around a meager fire drowned by the darkness
surrounding them.
The Thirst - Part 2
Added Mon Feb 28 13:06:45 2011 at level 23:
The humanoid feline creatures innate caution and predatory instincts
made her circle only once before she pounced the three unsuspecting
adventurers in her ambush. Not a virgin to the taste of magic mixed with
blood, she went for the armed warriors first, her ears laid back and
monitoring the yet-to-come incantations of the startled mage apprentice.
Before the first warrior could raise his weapon, she was at his throat
and tearing her claws savagely into the life giving veins of his neck
where his armor left him unprotected. The other warrior came in fast
with his club and she instinctively brought the claws extending from her
paws backwards and batted it away and out of his hands.
As the club went skittering away from the light of the meager fire, she
leaped in its direction with a mighty pounce. Thinking the feline
creature went for his weapon, the foolish second warrior chased into the
darkness after his club. He could not have known that the feline
creature lacked all ability to bring such weapons to wrought, but he
should have known that no such weapons were needed after the death of his
warrior companion. Having only left the light to prepare another pounce,
the feline creature turned in ambush and brought death to the warrior who
treaded into the darkness of her domain
The mage now in his shock began the incantations of a spell, but he
stuttered and stopped. The feline creature circled in the darkness
beyond the light, giving him time to manage the fear and start his spell
again. She wanted the magic to be on his tongue, awakening and explosive
as she tore at him and consumed him entirely. It was more satisfying,
more fulfilling, and always... always... better that way.
Obstacles
Added Thu Mar 3 13:32:00 2011 at level 29:
The feline creature cautiously approached the giant, looking beyond it at
the one place devoid of magic where her mind could relax. Outside battle
raged between the wanted dwarven leader of the village and the
vindicator, but she moved past to another nearby building. She was
focused and determined to do what the other men and women had done who
came seeking the village before her.
She came upon it then. The mighty hammer could be heard pounding again
and again as she made her way into the heated forge of the Noldarian
smith. Not looking up he said, "I think the Village of Battleragers
might be able to use a mage-killer like you. Interested?"
"Tsssssss!" she replied which caused the blacksmith to look at her
strangely. She looked at him expectantly and it was obvious he did not
understand her strange sounds. Trying again she was able to come closer
saying, "Ssssssssss!" But it wasn't enough. Jumping through the window
she tore her claws and teeth into the ground for two minutes to regain
her composure.
Minutes went by, perhaps an hour, as she tried again and again to say the
correct word. She knew her desires and only this word stood in her way!
The blacksmith smiled wryly, continuing his work in a bit of disbelief at
her mixture of inaptitude and determination.
Finally, Ssii tried again, forming the word in the way that seemed
unnatural and like she was regurgitating food for a fela and amazingly
said, "Yessssssssssss!"
With a huge evil grin of mischief, Tahren continued, "Just repeat these
words...I swear by Boltthrower's axe that I will not rest until magic in
Thera is destroyed."
To view the creature Ssii, one would have seen eyes as big as a dark
bottom fish and a jaw dropped nearly to the floor. She shook it off and
spent the next several hours in a display of utter determination, slowly
working each syllable silently in her jaws through her strange teeth.
This was it. This was the moment her life had come to, where she would
conquer her lack of speech and overcome everything. She mustered every
ounce of will in her body, she focused on the little sentient knowledge
she had of the verbal mechanics, and she brought it all together in a
culmination. And what she said and what it sounded like was this...
"Tch tchka breoooowr hissss reorwa rsss chichik echa hisss estreowr!"
Ssii's claws clenched in victory, confident and sure this time she had
said the exact pronunciation word for word on her very first try!
The Noldarian blacksmith let his face betray nothing and simply said,
"Perfect!" before turning quickly to the forge to cover the smile on his
face.
