Role
Locust Swarm
Added Fri Mar 1 19:07:27 2019 at level 15:
Concentric circles of decay imbued themselves into the fields of Balator the night of her
birth as if the lands themselves cried out in anguish at the act of desecration that had
just transpired. With the smell of sulphur and brimstone, the liquified remains of Sunlay
Sanqvist seeped into the sodden earth and caused a swarm of locusts to erupt from the maw
that hungrily appeared beneath the scene of this unholy birth.
Birth? It was hardly a birth at all.
Sunlay Sanqvist had just conducted one of the most vile transgressions against the land of
Thar-Eris that one could aspire to achieve. She was once a noble Priestess of the Harvest
Moon. A speaker to the spirits and queen of the ravens, she was the harbringer of death to
those who would dare to break the Cycle. Though as seasons passed and age began to wither
away her youth, she became obsessed with the finality of life and the permanence of death.
Her fears and obsessions drove her to the edges of her sanity and in the end she succumbed
to the same temptations of those she had hunted for seasons. She turned to her collection
of unholy artefacts she had taken from those she had called the wrath of nature down upon
and in the infernal tome of the dark arts she found an idea for her salvation and freedom.
But first, she would need one more blessing from her deity. A blessing she could perverse
and manipulate for her own desires. Gathering herbs of fertility she made her preparations
for the defiling of her soul and ventured forth to the fields of balator. Off to the south
she carefully stashed her unholy artefacts, knowing that if she was successful she would
need them in the days to come.
The fertile fields withered instantly at her touch as she scribed runes of death into the
lands and linked them all together with the druidic symbols of fertility and rebirth. The
affect was instantaneous. Sunlay, well into her senior years, suddenly fell to her knees
in the centre of the circle, her stomach swelling and pulsating as it rapidly grew to an
enormous size and threatened to explode. She roared and moaned, clenching her fists in two
tight balls as her fingernails split the weathered skin on her palms. Pain radiated from
her defiled uterus as she her consciousness fled her between the rapid beats of her heart.
her defiled uterus as her consciousness fled her between the rapid beats of her heart.
And before the next beat, her consciousness returned. Her spirit had found itself in the
body of her newborn child. Sunlay Sanqvist lives on.
But at what cost?
Locust Swarm Continues
Added Fri Mar 1 20:31:30 2019 at level 15:
As the swarm of locusts grew into a dark ashen cloud above the fields of Balator, it drew
the attention of the local villagers who made their way with caution to witness the dark
spectacle. They were greeted by the smell of sulphur and death that violated their senses
as they arrived at the ghastly scene only to be greeted by the shrill cries of an infant
that was not even hours old. Jaragh stepped forward with tears beginning to swell in his
compassionate stare. He glanced towards the vulnerable girl in the epicentre of this bleak
disaster and never dared to think that the vile spirit within was the cause to all of this
destruction.
Sunlay Sanqvist lived on.
Her youth in Balator was dull. While her spirit and knowledge past from body to body, she
was forced to endure relearning the simplest of tasks. While she ungracefully learned to
walk for the second time, she was intimately aware that her time on Thera was precious and
all too limited. With the beckoning hand of death perpetually lingering in the corner of
her eye and in the shadows of her mind, she knew the embrace would be painful and full of
the vengeance of the wilds.
So her thoughts often strayed to her cache, hidden in the tunnel not far from her prison.
The bundles of tomes and artefacts promising an escape from the claws of death and a place
of salvation from the spirits she had defiled in creating this chance for herself. Days
turned to months. Months turned to years. And when the time finally came, Sunlay left the
struggling township behind and ventured south to the scene of her death. The scene of her
birth.
The scars of the land had healed, concealing all trace of the vile act that had happened
almost twenty years prior. But Sunlay still felt the resonation of the earth and the pains
that she had inflicted. In her past life, she'd have wept at this perversion. But now she
simply raised a hand to the fading mark of divinity that passed down through flesh to her
from birth and she smiled a impish smile.
Pacing to what would have been the epicentre of the sigils, she felt the uneven scars of
the ground and orientated herself with the earth. Three paces east. Six paces south. She
found the hidden door and entered the barren tunnel. Her heart raced in her and her pulse
roared in here ears.
"What if it's gone?"
Clawing at the limestone mortar with her fingernails, she exposed the edges of panel that
she had concealed many years ago. Manic laughter overcame her as her shoulders heaved in
deep ecstasy while she clawed frantically at the wall. The panel slid open and her stashed
artefacts sat un-molested before her hungry eyes. She hugged the infernal tome close to
her and made her way out into the light and began her studies anew.
Early Migration
Added Sat Mar 2 04:43:59 2019 at level 17:
Her assimilation into society was not kind to her after seasons living free and in harmony
with nature. She went from foraging and collecting her food, to bartering the less desired
of her artefacts in order to purchase supplies. As time grew forth, her possessions began
to dwindle and Sunlay grew desperate in times of famine. With the gathering storms that
heralded the starting of winter, she made her decision to venture to the greatest city in
Thera and seek shelter amongst the commoners.
How times had changed. There was time in her former life she would have despised the stone
battlements of Galadon but as they drew closer she felt herself overcome with feelings of
relief. It was there she bartered her last artefacts - besides the infernal manuscript of
necromancy - and settled down in the desecrated shrine beneath the dark alley to weather a
cold, harsh winter.
And she welcomed it. Peace and quiet, time to focus herself on her studies as the constant
threat of death hovered over her like a shattered halo. But with the coming of the storms
came the uprising of the Outlands and a startling revelation. How she despised the ways of
the Outlanders.
How much she despised whom she once was.
The frequent raids and dwindling supplies within the city enforced famine amongst the town
and with the last of her currency traded for a simple loaf of bread, she was left with two
things. A need of employment and an insatiable desire to devour the Outlands. She pulled
her dishevelled robes tightly as she made her way through the markets and back towards the
mouth of the alley. A poster caught her attention, fixed outside the Slayer's Blade.
"Magistrates Wanted!" . . .
She read no further, the beginnings of a plan began to take shape in the forefront of her
mind and she could hardly hide her excitement. It would provide her with three crucial
things she needed find her ascension:
Provisions. Peace .... and live subjects for her growing magic.
Summary Part I
Added Sat Mar 2 05:24:10 2019 at level 17:
Sunlay strode with purpose through the markets of Galadon and took a formal pose before
the Captain of the Guard and pledged to the Blood Tribunal. With this action an ancient
conflict within her grew eerily silent as if the howling wolves in the distance had ceased
their cries in unison. The remnant divinity within her marking fled and the only traces of
her past life retreated into gasping death rattles contained by the growing malevolence
of her spirit. It was a pinnacle moment of her development and as she turns her attention
towards her purpose it is important to note the following:
1) Sunlay was born (and reborn) under the Sphere of Death. Initially she was a Priestess of
the Harvest Moon but as she was overcome with fear at the finality of death she defiled a
Cycle she had dedicated her life to protect. Now her obsession with death is to escape the
mortality of life and the wrath of the Ancients and spirits she has defiled. The influence
of death is the greatest driving factor of her life.
2) Sunlay is born of herself. As one of the greatest acts of perversion, she impregnated
herself with union of black magic and fertility herbs and possessed the newborn body of her
offspring. She was imparted with the knowledge of her past yet was forced again to build up
her skills and mental reserves.
3) She collected the relics from Necromancers she had slain during her hunts and hid them
in the tunnel before her foul ritual. After her upbringing in Balator, she ventured forth
to collect the artefacts and begin her teachings in the art of Necromancy. She sees this as
the only way she can escape death and the wrath of the Ancients.
4) After a rough assimilation into society, she has pledged to join the Blood Tribunal as a
place to find shelter and supplies. She also sees this as an opportunity to expand on her
growing dark magic and be provided with live subjects to experiment upon.
5) As a complete swing, she has developed a fierce hatred for the Outlands. She views them
as pests and despises the obstacle they have become in her quest to escape death. As she
develops in her magic the hunter spirit within her will come to life and she will seek to
be their biggest threat and key component in their destruction.
Summary Part II
Added Sat Mar 2 05:24:40 2019 at level 17:
6) Due to the meticulous nature of her studies, her soul has become an orderly construct.
There is no room for error in her magics, all aspects must be accounted for. Calming the
chaos in her soul is still an issue from time to time and is something she seeks to quell
as she draws closer and closer to the dark ritual. This will manifest itself in her actions
and her words. She will be quick to anger and appear emotionless in the wake of these odd
outbursts.
7) She seeks to reconcile herself with the last memories of her old life and first sight of
her new life. Visions of locusts and great plagues torment her as images of distant deserts
flood her mind. As she pursues answers to these mysteries she will find herself before the
Unspoken One. An unholy deity whom will she will submit to and serve in the name of death.
Spire Reflections
Added Sun Mar 10 17:17:15 2019 at level 31:
The delicate sounds of her boots echoed through the empty Spire. It had become a place of
deathly silence in the recent years. The Provincials had fallen from their perches, a fact
that conflicted Sunlay for she shared not affection with the pitiful elven Paladin who had
watched Galadon like a hawk in her assimilating years. She remembered well the arrogance
that cloaked him like an aura of righteousness and allowed herself to rejoice at his timely
demise.
As for the Provost? A myth. A shadow. She had never had the pleasure of meeting he whom was
responsible for the Magistrates who served the Spire. Another highborn elf, one that she
could endure as long as her wages were deposited into her accounts. She paused at the very
thought and her mind began to drift to the journey she had embarked upon.
From defiling the cycle and assimilating into the civilised world, her predatory instincts
had aroused the interest of the Unspoken One. The fragility of the situation did not allude
her. She knew He whom called the Locusts would not be satisfied with mere morsels of common
criminals to sate his ravenous hunger. He desired the souls of many for his Wellspring. And
above all else, he delighted in the hearts of goodly Priests and savages of the Outlands.
A wry smile made its way on to her lips as the echoing reverberations of her footsteps tore
her from reminiscing the bloodied path behind her and returned it to the issue at hand. The
Spire was as barren as the Light in her tormented soul. Higher and higher she ascended the
steps of the Spire and ignored the Halls of the Vindicator that so often called to her own
predatory soul. The season for that would come.
But for now, the moon was waxing - the perfect moon for regrowth. She snorted to herself in
disgust as knowledge of her past creeped into her subconscious and filled her with a dark
revelation. Perhaps it was time for growth after all.
Withdrawing her quill she found a cosy outlook and began to pen her application so that she
may serve a higher station within this place she now called home.
The Mummified Warrior
Added Sat Mar 16 04:55:20 2019 at level 35:
Her studies progressed well.
It was a sudden thought that occurred to her as she gently flipped through the tome under
the dim light of a flickering candle, subconsciously checking off the incantations she had
worked hard to master in the months prior. Chilling touches. Tormenting spirits. Animating
the dead. These were all imbued within her spirit and second nature to her existence as if
she was breathing air itself. Delicately she turned the pages until she stumbled upon her
next great obstacle. Straining her eyes against the light she deciphered the infernal runes
that would dictate her next pinnacle of growth.
"Greater Undead"
A journey though the graveyards scattered upon Thera would reveal her affinity with death,
like omens of her past. Packing her travel pack, she submitted a brief leave application as
she ventured out the eastern gates of Galadon and disappeared into the gathering darkness
of night. For weeks she would venture and find nothing. And yet soon she would find herself
face to face with the realities of her past. Taking a deep breath she plunged through the
void and into the vortex known simply as "the Past".
She will filled with a startling sense of deja vu as she ventured through the woodland that
had once been under her protection. Distant memories of shared life that lived in internal
conflict with herself. The harrowing image of a raven flashed through her mind as she made
her way south upon the woodland trail. She dared not face the Plains for she knew the power
of the treants and the wrath she had inspired. Pulling her cloak tighter about herself, her
feet echoed in unison with the lumbering dead that dragged their clubbed feet behind her.
"Hark!"
The screech of a raven echoed across the wagon road heralding the coming of death as Sunlay
Sanqvist and her entrapped souls approached the settlement gates. Swivelling her head in
desperation, she attempted to catch sight of the winged creature and an omen of her defiled
Goddess. Conflict raged within and she felt sincere relief to finally be within the haven
of a settlement that would one day become Galadon. Kneeling down before the grave she began
chanting the unholy mantra with eyes closed in fierce denial.
She was greeting with anguished groans and the sounds of sand slowly trickling to the floor
as the lumbering mummy prostrated itself before her, the smell of its decaying flesh enough
cause Sunlay to open her eyes an observe the miracle before her. Elated she allowed herself
a moment to smile. To celebrate. And to bask in the glory the Unspoken. The omen of this
foul creature overshadowed the pitiful ravens that flocked to witness. She reached out with
a gentle hand and stroked the creature before her.
It was beautiful.
It was destiny.
And it demanded more souls for the Wellspring.
