Description
Towering here before you is a truly imposing creature. Twelve feet of solid
black steel, covered in dried gore, the outline broken by jagged spikes
sticking out from the massive plates. Nothing can be seen of his face
beneath, there is no patch of bare skin to be seen anywhere. The air around
him crackles with a palpable aura of black magic.

Suttun is a fire giant from the volcanoes who is particularly interested in
magic. While he respects strength he thinks that magic, if used correctly can
bring greater power than any purely martial training. He became frustrated by
the limitations of the teachers of his homeland, and has set out on a journey
to acquire a broader knowledge of magic. He is particularly fascinated by the
magic of necromancy which seems a superior version of the magic the fire
giants teach, and offers more profound accomplishments. While he has found
humans willing to teach him the lesser necromancy, the necromancers guild
refuses him entry.
So far he has been slow and methodical in his exploration and training,
taking aid from more accomplished wizards and fighting off his opponents. His
one error so far was an ill advised assault on another fire giant, a
bloodoathed warrior, which may teach him to pick his battles more carefully.
He has had a few meetings with the shaman Viranzel who told him of the
C'culgra and directed him to the Lyceum, where he was able to read more about
them. Perhaps these powerful and elusive wizards might hold the key to a
deeper understanding of the magic he commands.
Seeking

Suttun has been continuing his training and searching for greater power.
Progress has been cautious and methodical but he has begun sparingly
accepting the aid of others of a similar standing in their guilds. He has
been particularly keen to seek the company of necromancers, even one marked
with the bloodoath, though he knows that if joins with the scions of eternal
night they will become enemies. He sees many necromancers of the black sect,
and is unsure if any reside within the chasm. Where might his chances of
gaining power over death be better? In truth, he has not been greatly
impressed by any of the novices of death magic he has travelled with, and is
content so far to remain loyal only to himself.

Suttun has been struggling somewhat to hold his own in Thera, but his
struggling has not been entirely in vain. Some time ago, after claiming
several victims, he made the decision to seek out the fold of the Scions,
knowing he valued his own freedom too much to bend his knee to an Emperor. He
has had some trouble with the soldiers of the Empire, many of whom he deems
cowardly, but has maintained his co-operative relationship with the
necromancer Jaqin, now a citizen, without revealing his own ambitions.
Another close ally has been the necromancer Zmiaslrithla, a curious
individual with whom Suttun is mildly fascinated. Whereas he has been
teaching Jaqin and gaining his trust, he has been learning from Zmiaslrithla.
Learning in subtle measures the ways of Scarabaeus, who is of particular
interest to him having been the first to undertake the becoming.
His newest ally is in Daymond, another antipaladin, one of the chasm. They
have fought alongside each other, and he is glad of the help. Though he has
manged to claim a soul by his own efforts and recovered reasonably well from
having been stripped of his belongings without aid, his more formidable foes
and the acquisition of more powerful artifacts are as yet a little beyond
him. It is for this reason that he has halted his advance through the ranks,
as he did before. He wants to be sure that he can survive and compete at this
level before moving on to the next. Gathering souls into his weapon would be
a welcome side effect of this, but is not his primary aim, as weapons can be
lost.
He has not spoken to Zmiaslrithla of his ambitions with the Chasm, nor has he
spoken to those of the Chasm about his interest in Scarabaeus, unsure if they
are at odds with one another, and is in fact uncertain which party could
teach him more about the becoming. For now he will continue to court both
sides and indeed nurture the seed he believes he has planted within the
Imperial Black Sect, but most of all he will focus on surviving and winning
in the conflicts he faces nearly every day.

Things were going well for Suttun, before they went badly. He had obtained an
interview with the chancellor, and was promised entry to the chasm, should he
obtain five souls, within one elven week. A mere five, what could go wrong?
Firstly, several assassinations soured his mood. He was not dying to anyone
in open combat, taking on even village warriors and hurting them badly, but
he could not fight what he could not see.
But a fight with a shaman, which he very nearly won, fleeing instinctively
when she was a mere blow from death, her escaping and he finding her again,
only to be left blinded, cursed, diseased and unable to walk mere steps from
a healer, sent him over the edge. His slow, methodical approach lost
completely, he simply attacked whatever he could see, falling over and over
in the process, losing a good chunk of vitality that might otherwise have
lasted some time.
He has regained his composure enough to not simply return to the volcano, but
doubts he will ever amount to much.
