Description

A towering behemoth stands nearby. He stands at least 16' tall, slightly above average for his kind. He's clad in blackened armor which is trimmed with silver and gold streaks along the edges. His skin is an odd, pale color in most places, with an unusual hint of copper peeking through here and there, usually in places that are not often exposed, like the palms of his hands and behind his ears. His face looks as though it were carved from solid granite, all planes and sharp angles. A brand is on his forehead, but it's difficult to make out because it looks to have been vigorously scrubbed with some kind of rough object, scabbing slightly and even bleeding a little. Knowing eyes of green set upon you with their piercing gaze. His white hair is closely cut and barely visible around the edges of his battle helm.

Role

Descendent of Delleis the Deceiver

At the dawn of mortality, the first children of the lands were
giants.  Created by the Gods to test their own power.  As
powerful as they were, they ultimately were a failure and the
Gods commanded them to sleep for eons.

Then came the great awakening of the giants by the Mages
of Order and Chaos.  They needed brutes to help them in the
war they were embroiled in at the time.  The seneschal of Chaos
at the time was Delleis who was able to trick the giants into
fighting against each other, whether for his own amusement or
to simply watch the world burn was never understood.  The Gods
became enraged at this and burdened the clouds with the curse
of the Violet Spider.

More eons passed until a young study of history and bloodlines
emerged from the Arcanus Lecture Halls.  He was able to trace
his ancestry back meticulously though the ages to Delleis the
Deceiver.  His passion for history turned into a burning desire
to continue the path his forefather had started to walk. Respath
the Reawakener was that young student.

The Reawakening of the Violet Spider, Part I

Respath's mind was filled with knowledge of the past, of the
Five Magics and the Violet Spider.  He believed arcane threads of
the Violet Spider lay hidden within each cloud giant and each
thread could be tapped into, bringing back the ancient and lost
magic to his present time.

Through many years of research he had devised a ritual that
was to be performed on a cloud giant subject that could unlock
the magic of the Violet Spider.  With enough subjects, he could
unravel its mystery entirely and bring back the feared and divine
power once and for all.  He would be unstoppable.  All he needed
were willing, or otherwise, subjects.  And this is where the paths
of Respath and Svahlfang intertwine.

The Reawakening of the Violet Spider, Part II

From high up in the north western mountains, it was quite a
trek to the Seaport of Hamsah for shrimp but it was a trek
that was made each week by cloud giants at the behest of
their king.

Respath knew of the pilgrimage and assembled a cohort of
his clan to ambush and capture them.  Ten men it took for
each of the two giants but in the end they were able to 
shackle them and bring them blindfolded into the caverns
beneath Arkham.  The giants were chained up in cells as 
Respath prepared the ritual of the awakening.

As the bell struck signalling midnight on the Day of Deception,
Month of Old Forces, the giants were led to two altars surrounded
by one thousand candles on each side.  A gap in the candles
was left for the giants to be dragged through and bound to
each of the altars.

The Reawakening of the Violet Spider, Part III

Respath approached the first giant and calmly held an iron rod
in among the candles, making it glow white hot. He then spoke
in ancient tongues before arriving at a shriek and plunging the
rod into the forehead of the giant. The smell of burning flesh
overpowered the incense, the screams of the giant overpowered
the chanting of the cultists.  Flashes of purple danced across
the altar in a violent display of arcane magic. The first giant
breathed a final breath and then lay motionless.

Respath approached the second altar and reheated the rod in
the flames. The second giant was a brute of a thing and began
writhing on the altar, still fastened by the shackles.  Respath
plunged the rod into the forehead of the second giant but as
he did so, the giant was able to rip the iron shackles from the
altar, shards of iron flying across the cavern. Some shards
hit Respath in his eyes, blinding him.  The giant fully broke
free, ran to his dead friend, and in an effortless stroke, raised
him over his shoulders.  The cultists scattered leaving Respath
on hands and knees desperately clutching at thin air looking
for help.

With one firm foot from the giant, Respath was crushed between
the altars and the giant escaped from the caverns, returning to
his home in the north west mountains where he was able to
bury his friend.  The shrimp, unfortunately, were lost.

That giant was Svahlfang "Fang" Icereaver.

Siege Friend Vuorog

As Svahlfang's journeys continued he came across a fire giant
hunter, Vuorog, as fierce as the lava that flows through the deep
caverns of Kiadana.  Their friendship consisted mainly of tracking
and sinking various ships as they crossed the Dragon and Aryth
oceans.  They focused their attention on ships captained by those
that revelled in the five magics.  Along the way, Vuorog (or Siege
Giant friend, as Svahlfang would refer to him as), would speak
of a village made of huts; with a throne built from mage skulls
that held the bloody head of a magician.  Vuorog spoke of the
pillar, commandments, plaque and tablet and all the ancient
villagers that have taken residence within the village.  The more
Vuorog spoke of it, the more distance Svahlfang's home in the
northern mountains felt... until one day he found himself at
the entrance to the village greeted by a massive giant.

A little azure bard friend welcomed Svahlfang within and ushered
him to a spare patch of dirt upon which he was tasked with
building his own hut.  The bard was old, very old and within only
a matter of weeks, he had succumbed to his battle wounds.  An
honorable funeral was followed by the sudden realization that
the village was now leaderless.

The first Rites

With barely enough time to read the commandments (he was an
exceptionally slow reader even for a giant), the immortal voice
of Panmorne bellowed out that the time had come to choose a
new leader of the village.  One to take the front against the tidal
wave of new enemies that battle faced.  Old enemies from the
Chasm to the east, mages to the north from the Fortress and
the Palace, and a sudden boon in magic that ebbed from the
Spire to the West.  A daunting task but one that must be earned.

The rites were held in the southern part of the village, rarely 
seen by mortals.  Legendary weapons were scattered throughout
the battlefield, each one with a thousand tales to tell no doubt.
There were four to beat but only one that concerned Svahlfang.
Buteo and Gultfrut, although great warriors in their own right,
were cast aside and disposed of early in the rights.  This left
Svahlfang to face his friend and ally Vuorog.  Svahlfang's hand
was unsteady, his aim unsure, he did not want to thrust the
sharp edge of his sword into his siege giant friend.  He was not
ready.  Not ready to lead.  Vuorog, with a clear mind and focused,
felled Svahlfang with several mighty blows... and it was decided.
Siege giant friend was to be the new commander.  Svahlfang
was both relieved and disappointed.  Disappointed that he had
failed to control his emotions but relieved that he could continue
to learn his place in the village and learn from his great friend.
