Description
You come to rest your gaze upon an odd looking little figure. At a first
look, he looks almost like a gnome, but closer inspection of him leads you to
see that he is a svirfneblin man. Short and stout, this svirfneblin's eyes
seem to dart back and forth nervously as he surveys his surroundings.
Glimmering a light green with a sparkle of mischief in them, his eyes
highlight his pale pasty skin that seems as if it could use some sunlight. He
wears tattered leather armors over his hand sewn linen clothing, dirty and
worn with time. Around his belt is a belt pouch with a fair sized purse on on
side, and a set of glimmering lock picks on the other, seemingly made from
pure diamond. Upon closer inspection of the lock picks there seems to be some
sort of a family crest engraved into them. Looking one last time, you notice

On the run

Sylos was born into the life he would live. One thing his father always told
him, is you play the hand you're dealt. Sylos was born the youngest of three
boys. His father, a wily man that always had a plan, made his living the
dirty way....The life of a thief and scoundrel. Growing up, often he would
take Sylos and his brothers along with him to steal, each of his sons he
would take on different tasks. For Sylos, he was always the lookout. Sylos
was responsible for keeping an eye out as his father and brothers broke into
homes with his lock picks and robbed them blind. Sylos became quite good at
this over the years, and came to enjoy it. As he got older into his teen
years, his father got into some very shady deals. One night, the Cragstone
guard busted in their door and dragged his father and brothers away. Sylos
was quick, and had just moments to hide under the bed, staying out of sight
of the guards. The next day, there was a public trial. Apparently his father
had knocked out a very rich elven diplomat and tied them up, and made off
with a stash jewels from the Darsylon vault, which were to be used in
diplomatic trading. The trial was short, and one sided. The guilty verdict
was handed down, and the axe man stepped forth. Death by decapitation. Moments
later, the sentence was carried out, and they sent his father and brothers
heads to be staked outside Upper Cragstone as an example of what happens to
thieves there. Sylos returned to their home Cragstone to find his house
ransacked by the guard in hope of finding the stolen gems. He ransacked the
place, finally finding his fathers thieves knapsack in the hidden panel of
the wall. Inside were the jewels, along with many nifty tools and artifacts
worth gold. Not bothering to look at everything, he took the whole knapsack
and gathered up his things and headed out, making his way towards Galadon.
They would be looking for him in Cragstone, he would not be welcome there
again. Arriving at the thieves guild, he used the stolen jewels as entry pay
to join, and found a place in the back to place his things. Determined not to
follow his fathers footsteps to the headsmen, he laid down to rest and
drifted off to sleep.
Learning the trade

Sylos unconsciously rubbed the immaculate looking set of lockpicks in his
hands as he thought of times past with his father and brothers. The lockpicks
were one of many things that Sylos found in his fathers burglary kit. The
knapsack of his fathers had been very useful to him since he had been on his
own. It had not been easy, getting this far on his own. Every day was a
dangerous new adventure, filled with risks and excitement. Sylos's greed is
second to none, but Sylos lives his life around self preservation. He learned
which marks were weak targets, easily bullied. Those were the targets Sylos
sought to hit. He is still learning the trade day by day, and unnecessary
risks are not something Sylos is very fond of. He had done well enough for
himself lately to make sure he was fed and clothed...but the jingle of his
half empty coin purse with each step just would not do. He would have to step
up his game, if he was going to make a mark for himself in this trade.
Determined and headstrong, Sylos set out to do just that.
Visions of showers of golden coins.

Sylos kicked off his boots as he returned to the meeting chambers of the
Galadon guild after a long day. It was hard to believe that it had been years
since he had joined, and it had been quite a journey to get here. Pulling out
a small tattered rag and his fathers lockpicks, he began to polish them
tediously as he contemplated on his plans. He had done well for himself in
the last few years, surpassing most of the guild easily in earnings and
talent. It was no doubt he had laid his foundations well, striking bargains
and deals with some of the more powerful adventurers of the world. It was
important to have friends and eyes everywhere, even if the sole use for them
was to be turned on and discarded at the proper time. Little matters to him
other than the further accumulation of his own wealth and standing, and the
standing of his Guild. When it comes to Galadon, there is not a cookie jar in
the city that he does not get his fingers in. Making sure he has a hand in
everyone's business, Sylos knows it will all to soon be common knowledge that
if you want to have business in Galadon, you best come to him first. Though
not the Kingpin, Sylos is sure the Kingpin will be distracted enough at the
Eternal Star to let his workings go unnoticed.
