Role
To Fight hidden in blinding Light
Added Mon May 28 17:07:38 2012 at level 15:
The harsh glare of the morning sun caused Szzilizi to squint as he emerged
from the cool, welcoming dark of the cavern. Instinctively, he fell into a
crouch behind a boulder, hands going to the blades at his belt, keenly
feeling at a martial disadvantage. A few moments passed, and as his eyes
gradually adjusted to the bright light he reflected upon the path that led
him into this open-aired hell.
In Drow society, and especially in Teth Azeleth, Szzilizi was twice cursed at
birth. First, he was born a male, and his society is one of rigid matriarchy.
Secondly, to the disappointment of his family, he had neither the gifts of
sorcery (beyond every dark-elf's basest ability to call upon faerie fire,)
nor did he hear the words of their dark Gods as the priests and acolytes do.
So, as many other "ungifted" males do, Szzilizi was given over to the Warrior
Academy, to train with weapons for the purpose of becoming one.In the harsh
caste system, Szzilizi had no value save what he could attain with his own
hard work, sweat, and blood, living a martial life. At worst, he would end up
on endless patrols through the Underdark. At best, he would earn the right to
serve in some Royal house guard. He never expected to be chosen by the
masters of his Academy for something far beyond the scope of his experience.
role + Many dark-elves who ended up in the Warrior's Academy perfected the martial
arts, becoming some of the most deadly warriors in all of the Underdark and
beyond. Their society, however, barred them from ever achieving more. These
binding obstructions began to chafe, over time, upon a select few Warriors.
Weaponmasters of the Academy though they were, they could not act openly
against the Academy of Sorcery, throw them down and rise up to the ruling
caste. The priests would surely intervene, and their own people would
destroy them. A plan was created, instead, more subtle and indirect yet just
as effective should it succeed.
They would send warriors to the surface, where they could act outside the
reach of the Academy of Sorcery's scrying eyes, and the meddling Priests
bothersome nagging. The most gifted among the students were chosen, as
Weaponmasters and officers would certainly be missed, and of the ten sent
through the deadly, uncharted tunnels leading to the surface, only Szzilizi
emerged into the light alive.
His orders were clear. To free himself, no, his entire caste, from their
place beneath the feet of their society, the Academy of Sorcery needed to be
destroyed. The Veil must be choked, by blood or destruction, and magic must
be strangled from the very stones of the Underdark. Only then would the
Warriors rise to their rightful places, till the wicked sun burns itself out
and the sky turns to ash.
The first decade on the surface.

Szzilizi is hard, prideful, violent, and dedicated above all else. He's not
afraid to die, seeing as he knows returning to Teth Azeleth is not an option
now that word of his slaughtering of Dark-Elf wizards on the surface has no
doubt reached the Sorcerer's Academy.
So, resigned to a life beneath the blinding glare of the Sun, Szzilizi has
dedicated himself ultimately to the quest he was tasked with and joined
others who share the same goal in the Village.
Despite the dazzling headaches and double vision he sometimes suffers as a
result of a cloudless mid-day sky, there are benefits to suffering above
ground. Many of his enemies are soft like cave grubs, especially the pale
elves who have committed themselves to the study of magic. He particularly
relishes shedding their blood. Others are more formidable due to strength or
size, and provide Szzilizi with a true challenge--he's found, however, that
they ALL seem about as slow as a cavefisher, and twice as stupid.
For the most part, he's able to put aside his racial prejudices where other
Villagers are concerned. He doesn't respond well to insults, however, and is
more than likely to challenge anyone besides a Commander or Drillmaster to a
fight in the Circle if they wish to earn the right to try and tell him what
to do.
He doesn't waste words where brevity will do, and prefers to let his weapons
do the speaking for him in general. Though he IS prone to making surprisingly
eloquent statements from time to time when he feels it's necessary or
relevant, sometimes even stringing multiple sentences together.
Most importantly, the concept of mercy is completely foreign to him. As is
Love, a word in the common tongue for which there is no Dark-elven
equivalent.
Thoughts on a few Villagers, and a newfound goal to focus on.
Added Sun Jul 8 15:14:18 2012 at level 48:
Opinions on Various Villagers:
Argo: Smart, reliable, strong. Szzilizi works better with him than any others
in the Village.
Salyeris: Szzilizi recognizes the Commander, and in particular this
commander, as the only person with a better understanding of sound tactics
and martial skill. He hopes to be her Drillmaster someday.
Kelarin: From insisting that he be called Kelarin instead of Drillmaster, to
his general absence when awake with regards to the war and raiding, Szzilizi
doesn't think much of Kelarin. He's nice enough, but nice doesn't win wars.
Martel: Second, after Algo, if Szzilizi was picking a raiding party. Good
head on his shoulders, dedicated, and not an idiot. All things Szzilizi
prizes in comrades in arms.
Random Thoughts:
He had a conversation with Salyeris about studying to sense more subtle
changes in the Veil, as the scouts are apparently able to do. It means a
great deal to Szzilizi to be able to understand the nuances of how his
actions serve his purpose, to seal the rip in the Veil forever. He's not sure
how he's going to go about achieving this, because he's no Scout, but it
serves a good purpose, and the Village in the end. Perhaps he'll start by
talking to some other scouts about what exactly they feel when they call upon
their true sight, and see if they can explain what they do differently.
The Fortress has been throwing everything it has at Szzilizi, and although he
slaughters them more often than he falls, the endless tide of enemies is
beginning to take it's toll. He's feeling feeble, compared to the near
immortality of arrogance felt in his youth. It drives him to be harder,
smarter, to rely more and more upon his mind in battle instead of his muscle
memory.
The Chase, Part One
Added Sun Jul 15 17:01:48 2012 at level 51:
Blood pounding in his ears, Szzilizi silently cursed the harsh light of the
setting sun as he sprinted down the Eastern road towards Galadon. Bleeding
heavily and limping, he nearly bowled over the squadron of Gate guards
standing stiffly on duty at the East Gate. The drow scowled and hurled a
curse towards them for getting in his way before taking off towards the
distant Market Square.
Just as the startled guards recovered their composure, they were suddenly
hurled to the ground in all directions as the steaming, churning form of the
Dwarven Paladin Dorjooma followed on Szzilizi's heels. The righteous fury on
his face was a palpable thing, and although he showed a few shallow wounds he
was clearly a man who could see his opening for a kill and did not intend to
lose it.
The two charged into the bustling crowd gathered for the evening market,
creating radiating waves of chaos in the thick throng of humanity behind them
like the wakes water striders on ponds.
Szzlizi almost stumbled as he made a sharp left, past the dark columns of the
Dark Temple that echoed with the chanting of priests greeting the Night. The
sun was nearly set now, but to Szzilizi, it was still bright as noon in this
cursed land. He needed darkness. It would be his only respite.
The Chase, Part Two
Added Sun Jul 15 17:08:49 2012 at level 51:
Sliding to a stop near a small opening between a few paving stones, he
wriggled down into the sewer, dropping a few feet to land wetly in the
ankle-deep water. He wasted no time, and dove to the left into a nearby
tunnel, sliding, almost slithering now, like some creature native to the dark
crevices and tight tunnels.
A second short drop, this time to land upon hard stone, and Szzilizi paused,
head cocked to the side. Listening to the sudden silence, bereft of the
distance street sounds that echoed even in the Galadon Sewers, he knew he
could hear the Dwarf coming...and there was only silence.
Nodding in a self-satisfied fashion, Szzilizi turned and strode into the
pitch-black comfort of his home. He moved purposefully through the endless,
winding tunnels, never faltering, never missing a tunnel fork or ledge or
drop. At intervals, he took short naps, keeping the bindings on his wounds
fresh until the bleeding stopped. Eventually, he emerged once more into the
harsh light of the Surface near a river north of Voralian, far from where he
had disappeared from the Paladin's sight. Ready to continue his War.
Reflections on the Underdark, and Salyeris' insistence he learns to teach, to someday lead
Added Sun Jul 15 17:16:11 2012 at level 51:
In the past few years, since reaching the Pinnacle of his guild and gaining a
reputation as a warrior to be feared, Szzilizi has become harried from all
sides, often being pursued by the men of the Fortress, the Spire, Scion
Chasm, Island, and even the Refuge (though arguably not often.)
More and more he has come to rely on his innate understanding and comfort in
the Underdark. He frequently dives beneath Thera's surface to walk the paths
mirrored below, from Galadon to Voralian being the path he most often walks.
Most recently, he learned of a path he had never walked, that leads into the
Underdark Sea and up into the Open Sea between Hamsah and Arkham. He's been
using it to his tactical advantage, quite frequently because those who chase
him have such a distaste for water.
As his scars have accumulated, he's spent more time with the Commander.
Respecting her more than any other he's met since leaving the Academy of
Teth, he puts great weight in her words, even when she tells him he must be
patient...even, ugh, nurturing....to teach those who err and shame
themselves, forge them into something useful, instead of casting them off as
inept and burning their huts.
So he'll start with this. He understands the tactical advantage knowledge of
the Underdark possesses. He is going to teach the others of the Village the
paths they need to know, to use for the Village's advantage in the war.
