Description

A handsomely distinguished man stands here, though something seems unusual about him event at first glance. It is his eyes which draw the most immediate attention, as they stare intensely out at the world with a strange glowing hue, shining as brightly as the afternoon sun. That light of his eyes seems to permeate throughout his body, as his ivory skin seems to glow with an internal light. His face, handsome despite the early signs of age, is framed elegantly by yellow-gold hair, which seems to give off light of it's own despite the few strands of gray. Around his eyes are the tell-tale creases of a man quick to laugh, kindness and empathy emanating from his smile. There is a sense of fierce determination though, as he looks upon the world around him unsatisfied, flexing his scarred and misshapen knuckles.

Role

A Child Born

Added Mon May 28 15:05:53 2018 at level 3:
Abegail was a simple slave girl of 18 years. A good-hearted soul, she was
put into a born into a situation that a good-hearted person should never
see. Brigands. Thieves. Murderers. The band could be called many things,
but only one word could accurately describe what they were. Evil. Pure,
unadultered evil. They worshipped the cult of Morius, revelling and
idolizing the most vile sins of man.

Of those sins, Abegail did not fear the gluttony, pride or rage of men,
so much as their lust. It was their lust that shattered her dreams of
freedom. Their lust which nearly shattered her soul.

But she held on. She held on as she was abused and tormented. She held on
as her body started to change. She held on for nine months, until the day
she finally gave birth. At that point, she could hold on no more.

Abegail did not live to see her son. She did not witness him take his
first breath. And she saw the glow in his eyes when they first opened.

A Boy Freed

Added Mon May 28 15:07:02 2018 at level 3:
Like his mother, Tamhas would spend his childhood in slavery. But he
would not remain there. While his mother showed strength and fortitude to
survive an unsurvivable situation, Tamhas showed the courage to change
his situation entirely.

Tamhas spent his youth learning to protect himself from the vile men who
called him property. While his mother was the subject of their lust,
Tamhas felt the full force of their rage.

Brave and resilient even at a young age, Tamhas never accepted their
violence easily. While weapons were beyond hope, he learned to fight
bare-handed. While other slaves might succumb and hope for leniency,
Tamhas would never back down from his tormentors. The fights were losing
efforts, without fail, but Tamhas fought still, as he always would.

It was one such occasion that Tamhas finally saw a chance to escape.
After a routine beating, both Tamhas and the slavers were tending their
wounds. But this time was different. The guard watching the perimeter had
to intervene and he, too, was distracted with his own wounds. For a brief
few moments, there was no one watching slaves.

Tamhas, ever vigilant, immediately exploited the brief opening. He and
half a dozen other young slaves snuck away into the treeline. They
escaped without a sound and without notice. They ran, hard but silently
until they found a river. It was the river that would take them to
freedom.

The boys, floating on makeshift rafts, arrived at the Voralian City docks
just as twilight turned to utter darkness. Free and safe, most of the
boys began making arrangements to start their lives or find distant
family members.

Tamhas, always different from the other boys and with no desire for a
quiet life, had other plans. Without explanation or much more than
parting words, Tamhas made his way quietly and directly to the Paladin's
guild.

A Path Set

Added Thu May 31 10:54:11 2018 at level 10:
While a normal man may have walked away from such a childhood with both
emotional and physical scars, Tamhas rarely showed any signs at all that
would separate him from a normal, albeit azure-touched child. Easy to
smile and quick to make a friend, Tamhas was widely considered a joy both
within the Paladin's Guild, and amongst the common people of Voralian
City.

His demeanor changes dramatically though, when confronted by those with
darkness in their hearts. While not an angry man by nature, Tamhas does
not hesitate to take action when he deems it necessary. This intensity
may be surprising to some, but Tamhas simply sees no other way. While
many men might seek to reason with or dissuade a bandit from continuing
their course, Tamhas would be far more quick to resort to decisive, if
violent, action.

It was decisive action, after all, which freed Tamhas and the other boys
from grasp of slavery. And it was all Tamhas would need to see to know
that he must continue to act, and act decisively, to free other innocent
lives from the grasp the corrupt who seek to enslave Thera.

Knowing the path and walking the path, though, are two distinctly
different things. Tamhas, after all, is a boy without a family. A boy who
never knew a mother or father. A boy who never saw a man he might wish to
become. In short, Tamhas had no connection to the good men and women of
Thera, no pure or just soul to model himself of. Instead, Tamhas had what
very few others had. He had the touch of the divine running through his
blood. A connection to the Azure Fields. A connection, in fact, to the
Lords above. It was a connection which Tamhas would continue to
cultivate, continue to evolve. A connection which, above all else, Tamhas
longed to strengthen.

After all, it was this divine gift that Tamhas leaned upon for strength
in his youth. And it was the divine that Tamhas would lean on still. It
was no coincidence that Tamhas's first day of freedom ended at the
Paladin's Guild. Some might call it his destiny, but Tamhas simply called
it his purpose. He was, in a literal sense, touched by the heavens above.
And he would, in an equally literal sense, bring that divine touch to
Thera.

A Perilous Situation

Added Tue Jun 12 11:12:01 2018 at level 37:
Much can change in a few short years, and much has changed in Tamhas's
life as he has grown from a young boy and into a man.

Tamhas, once known to the world as merely another slave boy, is now known
as a Squire to the Holy Brigade of the Phoenix. He is known as a devout
priest of the Lord Korsgaard. He is known as a Paladin, a protector of
the innocent and hunter of the wicked.

While he maintains the humility one might expect of an enslaved youth,
Tamhas knows what he has become and is even somewhat proud of it. He has
done good and he has done well, and Thera is in some small way better for
it. But something troubles him still.

Tamhas, after all, is a Paladin and like all Paladins, he has taken a
sacred oath to follow the Paladin's Code. He has sworn to respect the
laws of Thera and those whom it protects. But Tamhas the Paladin is also
a criminal.

Or at least, he is branded as one by what he sees as corrupt and
misguided Magistrates. Tamhas the Paladin is now called Tamhas the
murderer.

But how does a man who strives so hard to be incorruptable serve the pure
and innocent of Thera, when so many view him in the same light as Thera's
most vile? It is a question with no easy answer, one which Tamhas must
navigate with the utmost care.

One thing is certain at least. While Tamhas has long suspected the
twisted motivations of the Blood Tribunal, he now knows for certain that
they are self-serving at best, and utterly corrupt at worst. While their
dark-hearted Magistrates have largely been given safe passage by the
Brigade in the past, Tamhas can no longer see them as Thera's arbiters of
justice. Far too many of them are a corruption of the law rather than
enforcers of it, their wicked men no different than the wicked men met
outside the city walls.

If only the noble guards could see the truth that Tamhas sees. Until
then, he must be very careful indeed.

A Man Lost

Added Thu Jul 5 11:15:54 2018 at level 51:
Tamhas is a man lost. A man of purpose, Tamhas now feels as if he has
none. What does a man do when he betrays all that he loves? What does he
do when he becomes that which he hates?

Tamhas, despite once righteous life, now must find out.

It was a simple mistake, one many would have brushed aside quickly. But
Tamhas was never a forgiving man, and held himself to a standard beyond
that of most men. But he was not perfect. In effort to rescue his
Captain, Tamhas let haste overcome his better judgment. A ghost, innocent
and pure, was forced to suffer through another death at Tamhas's hands.
And so Tamhas, many times falsely accused of murder, was now truly guilty
of the worst crime what could admit.

Many Maran have served within the halls of the Fortress of Light. A great
many have fallen in honorable battle, but there are a few, rarely spoken
of, that fall from the righteous purpose and betray the Light which they
once served.

Was that what Tamhas was becoming? Perhaps this is it, the first step
taken as a man veers away from the righteous path.

But Tamhas would never accept that fate. He could not. But how does a man
return to the Light when he has betrayed it so egregiously? How can a
Maran continue to serve the Fortress, when he is no different than those
they hunt?

Tamhas, of course, had no answer to these questions. But he would find
them. He must.

A Way Back

Added Sun Jul 8 16:01:20 2018 at level 51:
Atonement. That is the word they use when a good man makes a wicked
decision and must make it right. But there is no making it right. Tamhas
knows that now more than anyone.

But he has tried. While there is no going back, no changing the evil act
he has committed, there is still good to be done in the world.

And so Tamhas has made it his quest to ensure the Light shines a bit
brighter upon those in need of it.

The Squires and the Maran. Many of them, Tamhas has learned, have fallen
in the same shameful way. But that cannot be accepted, it cannot be
tolerated. And so Tamhas has taken upon the mantle of teaching the young
Squires. Of being more active in ensuring that they know the proper path,
that they follow it, and that any minor transgressions are corrected far
before they go too far.

More pragmatically, and with perhaps more immediate impact, Tamhas has
made hefty donations to the Galadon Homeless Shelter, to the Balator
Orphanage. And, in light of what he has recently learned of the righteous
souls dwelling within, to the Galadon Graveyard. A satchel of 100 gold
coins is no replacement for a pure soul of course, but it may be a boon
to those still suffering through hardship.

Lastly, Tamhas has looked upon a group that mean a great deal to him. A
group that reminds him of his own childhood, of his own struggles. The
rebels of the Sitran mines fight a long-standing war against those who
would enslave them. They fight cornered, low on supplies and perhaps
afraid, but they fight still. Tamhas, many years ago, swore his
friendship to these men. Now he offers more than friendship. Delivering
more than a dozen of the finest weapons of Voralian City, perhaps these
men will now have the means to fight for their freedom.

Of course, Tamhas knows that none of this will ever redeem him. He's
still commited vile acts. Doing what any righteous man should do now does
not forgive an unrighteous act.

Forgiveness will never come for Tamhas. Forgiveness can never be earned
for the most wicked of acts. But he will serve the Light still, as he
should have from the first moment he, himself, become a freed man.
Righteousness is not merely slaying the wicked, after all. It is
protecting what is pure. Something Tamhas must do far better than he has.
