Description

A small man is before you, his skin strangely delicate beneath a webbing of fine white scars. He has elegant, almost beautiful, features marred by an oft-broken nose. He has rich blond hair, worn long and pulled back with a silk tie. He has a fine waxed mustache, that he tends to play with abscently. He moves with a subtle limp and a strange grace, a mischievious smile tugging at full lips as his clear blue eyes meet yours.

It has been an eventful two years for young Tanith. His hunts have brought
down roughly a dozen of the tainted, and he had several deep discussions
with the Lady Baerinka. She challenged him to seek out Llondolis and
Renkaide, and to question them on their beliefs. Tanith is, and was, a
simple guy and a bit closed minded. He thinks she gave him that task to
show him that there were other paths, equally righteous. His conversations
with those notables resulted in him gathering that, and stretching himself
some. Which, as a mental activity, was a bit tough for the guy.

Later on this year, Tanith struck hard at the tainted, and slew one as
well as regained the Fortress Orb. He was designated full Maran after
this. Later still, the Lady made more time for young Tanith, and ended up
granting him the mark of Her favor, and extracting a promise to continue
to grow and stretch himself, both physically and in faith.

Effects on his behavior:
Make an effort, per the Hall of Light as explained by Kernagor (Tanith
still can't read) to guide the Squires.

Continue to seek out and question those of slightly different faith.

Keep on hunting. Hah!

Quite a day...

This has been quite a day for Tanith. He woke once, set upon a Hunt, and
came away with another darkheart pierced. He woke twice, and found those
the gods would let him harm without taint. Using that free time he visited
the Lady Baerinka, and heard the tale of the end of her mortal days. It
affected him strongly, and in some ways made him feel a touch inadequate..
he has not felt that kind of love, or made that kind of sacrifice.

A sorrowful tale, and yet an act of great courage and purity. He continues
to turn it over in his mind, and to use it for inspiration and moral
compass.

Not long after that discussion, Llondolis the Captain of the Brigade called
him to the Fortress, and made him a squire. Wow. Eventful day. Tanith's
head is still spinning a bit as he listens to Llondolis describe the lore
in the holy books (which, of course, he can't freaking read).

Affects on his behavior:
1. A bit less impulsive, at least for a time. Baerinka's tale mellowed him a touch.
2. A fierce desire to hunt more, and faster, to proove himself worthy of
Baerinka's recommendation and to achieve the designation of Maran rapidly.
3. A bit miffed about the whole maran abvoe you stuff Llondolis was sprouting
... going to try his best to stay out of sight, and out from under orders.

First discussion with Lady Baerinka

Tanith had his first meeting with the Lady of the Jaguar, and felt that it
went quite well. Once he overcame his awe at being in her presence, they had
a brief conversation about his believes, and his life, and she tasked him
with finding a deeper understanding of all aspects of her religion.

Tanith is becoming more convinced that his purpose is to live the spirit of
the Jaguar. His hunts are coming more frequently, and are each more
fulfulling. The Lady named him the Eye of the Jaguar and tasked him with
understanding what that meant.

Impact on Tanith's behavior:
More aggressive hunting of evil
Some inner soul-searching on the true meaning of purity, and why he fights

Thieves Guild

Tanith found the rough and tumble training o the Tir-Taleth thieves
quite to his liking. He deepened his training in Dagdan, and then
enrolled in the guild. He is somewhat suspicious of the others, and
has no intention of following their direction. Perhaps he will become
Enforcer, and perhaps he will end up blackballed. But either way, he
is sure it will be a merry ride.

Backstory

Added Sat Aug 16 14:20:11 2008 at level 1:

Tanith was born to House Adoun, a middling-high noble house in Tir-Taleth.
He was, from birth, a severe disappointment to his parents. He had their
blood, their delicate beauty, and none of their composure. What intellect
he did share was constantly under seige by his sense of adventure.

You could consider him ADD. You could call him hyperactive. Perhaps even
morally questionable. Several things were very much true: he had a good
heart, was generally kind, and ALWAYS in trouble. Tanith just didn't do
well with structure, or rules.

He rapidly became an artist at dodging his tutors, escaping his classes,
avoiding his father's guards, his mother's handmaids, and anyone else that
might want him to do ANYTHING responsible. He typically escaped his
father's manor to play with the city children. Stones, knights, Nightwalker
tag. He was forever climbing trees, and equally as often falling out of
them. He wasn't a bully, and he wasn't a leader, but his wild energy and
sense of adventure rapidly drew a following of other children... all getting
in even more trouble collectively.

Tanith was raised to believe in the Gods of Light. Deep in his heart he
felt a secret kinship with the elf maiden, Baerinka. He felt a fierce sense
of joyous glory as he heard her tales, and those of her followers. And,
quite frankly, he thought the statue of her was the most beautiful thing
he had ever seen. It was, of course, totally unacceptable for a child of
Adoun to follow a warrior-goddess. No great noble would dream of getting
their hands dirty. But, of course, he did. If not openly.

Tanith's glorious childhood drew to a close quite abruptly. The child of
an itinerate tinker joined Tanith's group of friends, and immediately
started cruelly abusing the youngest. Tanith defended the weak, bloodied
the bully, and was turning back to play when the tinker's son took him in
the kidney with a knife. Ouch.

A burst of adrenaline, a savage yell, a flurry of movement, and somehow
Tanith ended up in the dirt, bleeding out, while the tinker's son had his
own knife in his chest. Tanith's friends ran for help, and with the aid
of a town healer Tanith was saved. Missing his kidney, of course.

This was, of course, a tragic disappointment to his parents. They never
liked his association with the commons, but getting knifed by one was
the last straw. They intended to send him off to a boarding school as soon
as he recovered.

So there we are. Worried parents alone in a manor, wounded Tanith in
the town hospice, and an enraged tinker with a dead child and no justice.
The tinker had a few fireworks in his wagon, and thought to use them to
blow up the manor in revenge. Of course, he was no explosives expert, and
while he succeeded in blowing up the manor, he also blew himself up. Leaving
Tanith in the hospice, orphaned and angry.

Tanith, when he recovered, had no interest in inheriting his father's title
or responsibilities, instead choosing to make his way own way in the lands.

So. What does this backstory mean for his behavior?
1. He never learned to read, or write. No use of the scrolls skill, no notes,
and no knowledge from notes unless someone tells him verbally.
