Description

Before you stands a tall man with ebony colored skin. His hair hangs down to his shoulders in tightly woven locks. His nose is wide across his face and his lips are full beneath. His forehead is broad, slightly larger than normal and his hair is tied loosely behind his neck causing the front of his skull to protrude slightly. He has dark eyes that are somewhere between black and brown with specks of gray glinting beneath bushy black brows. He is well muscled and walks with a proud stride - shoulders back, head held straight and feet moving with precision although his movement is more like a panther moving through the jungle. His clothing is mismatched, but he wears it with a quiet dignity that belies his wild upbringing.

Tchalla Goodman was raised on a jungle island in the middle of the Aryth
ocean. His family and extended family comprised the inhabitants of the island
and once per year they would raid surrounding islands to find mates for the
chief and any of his suborndinates who he felt had earned the right to develop
families. As a young man, Tchalla would go on these journeys to assist his
elders. The children's job was to strip any corpses and finish them off and
he thrived in this aspect of primitive tribal warfare. 
The islanders had no concept of nuclear family and Tchalla did not even know
who his father or mother were. He was raised by all the women in the village
and while some did show favorites, he was not one for whom anyone would have
shown any favortism whatsoever. The men in the village were distant until the
boys reached puberty and at that point they began to teach the youngsters to
fight with swords and daggers and staffs and whips. Tchalla was decent with
the weapons but it was always his mind that showed his superiority over the
other boys his age. 
He apprenticed with the village shaman, an old man who smelled of stale beer
and rotting plants. The shaman taught him which plants were poisonous and how
to mix the poison to tip the arrows ad spears of the warriors. He taught the
basic healing skills also, but Tchalla had little aptitude for the vivimancy
arts. He was capable of blending poisons and some of the other herbcraft, but
he lacked the spark that the old shaman said he should have. He was more
introspective than religious, questioning the beliefs of his fellows when
those creeds clashed with his own observations. This did not make him any
friends and soon the old shaman realized that his skills lent themselves more
to spellcraft than to channeling the divine.
With this understanding, the old shaman explained that he could not teach
Tchalla the skills he would need to home his craft if that was what he truly
wanted to do. Tchalla had little hesitation about going out in the world and
traveled to Galadon to take lessons from the guild of necromancy.
While in Galadon, he learned of a religion centered around Magic. This
appeared to be more of an empirical approach to living life and he became
determined to learn more about it and to live his life in accordance with the
tenets of a scientific and experimental consideration of all possibilities as
to how Magic could influence life and death.

Addendum

Added Sat Feb 12 06:36:10 2011 at level 18:

As Tchalla has traveled through the lands, he has explored with a fierce
dedication. He has also come to the conclusion that those who follow the
sphere of Magic are inherently superior to all others. To this end, he has
determined that they must die for the sin of not sufficiently being focused
on Magic. His strongest wrath is for those who are obviously diametrically
opposed to Magic, those of Nature. He also shows a kinship with those who do
follow the sphere of Magic and seeks to aid them no matter what else they
are.

Interactions with Empire

Added Sat Jun 11 05:39:14 2011 at level 26:

Background: I was chatting with some conjurer and he was helping me find some wands or 
something.  He heads off to hunt and I do the same.  I swing by the Inn to check for prey 
and see Armagon there, chatting with someone.  Next thing I know, he is being attacked by 
a nightgaunt. I inform the conjurer as to where he is and then the nightgaunt manages to 
kill him.  I take a pouch of nourishment from his corpse and give it to the conjurer 
(having seen him eat regular food and having one myself). I may have taken his coins, but 
there was less than five gold there, and I don't recall.  I explained to Armagon that I 
knew the feeling of not getting to loot corpses because of how my kills generally occured 
and that I gave the item to someone he could kill and get back (or steal back) but he was 
unmoved, which I am fine with.  Thus he sent out this letter.  As of now, I have not yet 
had the chance to kill any Imperials, nor have any come after me.

I think he placed a regular bounty on me also as I went up to number two from number 7 on 
the most wanted list.

cabal induction and beginnings

After speaking with Tavlin, I realized that Twist would never accept me as a follower if I 
entered the Chasm.  I took some time to think about it and decided that my loyalty was to 
Magic itself rather than to the God of Magic. Therefore I decided I would not be dividing 
my loyalties, but would be remaining true to them by joining the Chasm. This was not an 
easy decision, but the ease with which it took to state it to Tavlin convinced me that I 
had made the right choice. Upon speaking with Tavlin, he brought me to the Chasm and we 
determined that I would continue to be feared, continue to be present and would develop a 
magical study area.  

Soon after being inducted into the Chasm, Tavlin summoned us for a ritual. We met in the 
ancient city of Arboria and Tavlin showed us the way to bring a dome of darkness down onto 
us for a temporary time.  At that point I knew I must learn this magic and learn new ways 
to bring the darkness down upon myself and others.

More Chasm events.  The new Advisor requested that we convince another to take their own 
life.  I approached a young dark knight in Udgaard and convinced him to so do in return 
for some small trinkets.  He slit his own throat with a sword I provided that was made of 
energy in imitation of the techniques used by Tavlin.
