Description
A young, slim figure of a human stands before you, his back straight and
unwavering. His face was like the waters on the night of a full moon, pale
and somehow wavering. His long hair wafts around him like black smoke, its
tendrils curling and moving of what seems to be their own volition. His dark
brow is constantly furrowed, and his pale blue eyes always appear to be
slightly glazed, as if focusing on something that is not present. His skin is
smooth and unbroken, and any scars that mark his body are of very old
origins, only visible by the slight difference and puckering of the skin. He
has garbed himself in mostly darker colors of black and blue, all of which
appear to be well kept and cleaned. He wears a black cloak, the hood thrown
back to reveal a single golden chain that hangs around his pale neck.

"Do you hear them calling, son?" called out a faint voice above the waters.
Telez closed his eyes, focusing on the undulating and dampened sounds below
the black waters of the ocean. And yet...nothing. He squinted his eyes shut
even further, hoping that he would be able to hear even the faintest of
voices, of songs, of anything that indicated the waters had decided him fit
to serve as a warrior of the Al'Rahka. Telez felt the burn in his lungs, his
body screaming for oxygen. Such was the only voice that Telez could hear.
After what had felt like hours, Telez jerked his head up, gasping for air.
His father, looking down at him from the top of the stern, sneered in
disdain.
"The spirits have not found you deserving to serve as a warrior. I served the
spirits of the waters dutifully, as did my forefather, and all the
forefathers before as long as it has been written or told, from generation to
generation. And yet, you, you have not been held as worthy. You are no son of
mine."
Telez collapsed on the boat's deck in exhaustion, his eyes blood-red from the
salt of the sea as he watched his father's back move briskly away. He had
failed.
History and Future
Added Sun Apr 16 22:34:29 2017 at level 17:
The waters were the blood of the Al'Rahka tribe. A seafaring people who sailed
the domains of the Dragon Sea and the Aryth Oceans, they worshipped the
spirits of the waters who guided them to calm waters and granted them prowess
in their battles. At a young age, boys and girls were tested by the waters,
to see if the spirits deigned their bodies worthy to take up the axe and the
oar in their name. Those who failed, like Telez, were cast out to sea on a
canoe, their fate to be decided by the waves.
Telez met the same fate, and was cast off into the Dragon Sea. There was no
farewells, no tears from his mother or father. He was awoken, early, before
the sun had yet risen, and lowered into a canoe that barely fit him, and
pushed off. Within minutes, he could soon only hear the lapping of the waves
against the sides of his boat, and the occasional cry of the early bird.
Telez was alone.
He felt great shame, the firstborn of his family to be found too weak, too
unfit, for the spirits. Even if he made it to an island or to the coastline
by some stroke of luck, he had no purpose. What would he even do? Resolve
filled within him, to do what he knew was the proper course of action, one
that was the will of the Al'Rahka. There was a reason no provisions were
given to those cast off. Slowing standing to his feet, Telez took a deep
breath, and fell into the waters.
Telez exhaled, bubbles springing forth from his mouth as he purposefully let
himself sink into the darkness. His limbs began to spasm, his lungs and nose
burning as water was inhaled. Within seconds, dark spots began to haze his
vision. Soon, it would be over. As he began to lose consciousness, Telez
heard the faintest of voices...
"Your body was not meant for the front lines of war, young Al'Rahka. Your
actions have pleased us, for you are willing to sacrifice your life for us.
The waters have grown foul with the taint of civilization, of cities that
grow and infest Thera. You are chosen, to stop the spreading of this
parasite, to heal the waters of Thera. Such is the task we give unto you,
young Al'Rahka. Serve and you shall be rewarded."
...Telez woke up to heat of the harsh noon sun that beat down upon the sands
of the coast. Wincing at the pain that still coursed through his chest, he
slowly brought himself to his knees, and grimly smiled. Telez Al'Rahka,
firstborn of Johun Al'Rahka, was no longer without purpose. There was work to
be done.
Character
Added Sun Apr 16 23:17:15 2017 at level 18:
Telez was a proud man. Partly from heritage, partly from youth, Telez derided
any showing of weakness. A warrior he was not, but such did not mean that one
could not be strong. Telez refused to heal those he found to lack strength of
their own. He was not quick to anger, yet held grudges close to his heart,
and did not forgive those who betrayed his trust. Such was the code of honor
of the Al'Rahka.
Telez despised, of course, those who held any strong connections to the
cities. However, those who appeared to have no preference one way or the
other, Telez cared little for, except to use them further his goals. He
viewed these latter people simply as sheep, easily swayed to follow whichever
force came out as victors.
Telez became a healer not out of choice (not that he had any particular
preference), but out of the powers granted by the spirits of the waters. He
found out soon enough that he could mend the small wounds of his body, and
create food and water simply by asking for it. Telez realized that how was it
possible to heal Thera of the pox that was civilization, if he had no
strength to heal? Such was only natural that the spirits imbued him with the
powers to heal and restore.
