Description
The barrel-chested centaur before you is an exceptional looking example
of his race. His hair, once probably as black as midnight, now has the
heavy silver of age. His face is deeply tanned and furrowed by the sun
and age and from it flows an immense beard that matches the appearance
of the hair flowing from his scalp. A once perfect white smile is now
yellowed and marred by missing teeth. His heavy body hair is apparent
on his arms and chest where it shows at the gaps of his armor. His equine
half is that of a powerful barrel bodied stallion with sleek black fur
that still carries the shade of his human hair when he was young but
behind him a long flowing tail that carries in it the silver streaks
of age. His demeanor is that of one who has seen it all and is
unimpressed but still ammused by the goings on around him. And though
he stands head and shoulders over normal men and appears bold and brash
age has tempered some of his fire. He is definitly dangerous, but he doesn't
appear to be threatening.
He is adorned in armor that is a hodgepodge of metal and leathers, skins
and cloths and bones that are suitable for human and horse. Arrayed along
his equine flanks is a brace of various weapons as well as various tassled
pouches that bear various totemic symbols on them. Perhaps they carry crude
herbal remedies or components of primitive magics and medicines.
Role
Thaar Hoat
Added Sat May 30 12:44:59 2015 at level 28:
Thaar Hoat is one of several offspring sired by Hoat Braam a former lead
stallion of a migrating centaur herd.
Though too young to have breached the gates of Hell he is the third generation
(Thaar and other young members fondly call themselves the "Third Herd".) since
and is still deeply influenced by the generational proximity of that time. His
herd fled far from the influences and persecution of humanity and roam
forgotten trails in forgotten lands in search of a place to call their own.
Here and there they drop off and settle, though never in large numbers. Thaar
Hoat is one of them.
Ever since he was born it has been known that he has had an affinity with wild
things. It was noted that he had an ability to speak with the wild creatures
around him and he could often be seen with his head cocked to the side or his
ear pressed to a tree as if listening to a voice only he could hear.
As he matured his harmony with nature and the fae only grew and he was coaxed
into druidic traditions by his family. But it was soon apparent that he was too
kind hearted and too much a champion for the underdog to ever fit in among
them. During this time his herd had come from the Farlands into the borders of
humanity. During their time their Thaar felt a calling to preserve the wilds
things and places that managed to hold on despite of mankind's excesses. Being
a cast off of the druids he found acceptance with the rangers of the land and
was quickly counted among their number.
It wasn't long after he was guilded that he was also given passage into the
branches of the Outlander refuge by Strienat himself. Now, with the blessings
of the ancients, he explores the lands and grows in renown and power as he
seeks to right the wrongs man has inflicted on the land. While he often does,
he tries not to do this at the end of a sword save against those beasts that
are not of the realm or are walking in undeath. Instead he would prefer to show
alternatives to others.
Thoughts of slaughter are repugnant to him, but the blood of a centaur does not
flee from a good fight or a wild romp and he is nearly always up for either,
though he tends to be cautious and plotting in his way of fighting and
frolicking.
As per the bark he does obey it and expects others to as well but he does have
his own interpretation.
As examples:
Where it speaks of shunning dwarves, he believes that to mean the nations of
Akan and Mortorn as a whole, not each individual dwarf. He has encountered
dwarves who love the wild as much as he and he suspects one of the ancients
spirit voices he has heard in the mountains was a once wild dwarf.
As for the minotaur, he feels guilty at times for culling them, at least the
least aggressive of them but they are repugnant all the same and he adheres to
the commands of the ancients.

Now he seeks only to be the best Warden and Outlander that he can be. Seeing
his spiritual gifts and robust health as divine gifts not to be selfishly
squandered in a great circling sweep of the lands that diminish the longer they
are left untended.
Hierarchy of Enemies and apathies....
Added Sat May 30 18:05:00 2015 at level 28:
Undead and those that create them.
Any who have attacked the Refuge or a Warden (Unless the Warden Forgives them)
Extraplanar (Evil)/Anti-Paladins
Abominations (Minotaurs, mindless monsters engineered for destruction etc.)
Empire/Evil Tribunal/Nexuns
The "Evil Races"
Neutral Tribunal/Extraplanar Neutrals
Reavers
Good Tribunal/Extraplanar Goods
Akanians and Mortornites
Should he see any of his enemies fighting a higher echelon of enemy he will not
interfere. At least not immediately. He may strike when that conflict has been
resolved to some degree and typically against the higher echelon. This assumes
the lower echelon enemy hasn't made his or herself particularly bothersome.
