Description
Before you is a mature high-elf, likely well past his second hundred,
this elf is of solid, athletic build. His tanned body lean and
well-muscled. Complimenting his statuesque form are a set of sharp
features, and a rigid posture. Crowning his head, his hair is loose
and dark, closely shorn to the base of his skull. His features are
accented by a pair of majestic, deep set, slate eyes. Pushing up
through his wavy hair are the tips of two distinctly pointed ears,
and a scent of flowers mixed with armor polish lingers about him.

Beginnings

Thalamanion alDinien was not an elf of noble blood. But his family were
servants in the royal guard none the less. They were commoners and their
residence at the outskirts of the forest would make them near wild elves if
it was not for the work at the palace.
There is power in repetition. Certainly comfort. And Thalamanion enjoyed the
safety of well-defined processes. Early practice. Patrol the gates. Lunch
with the colleagues. His first week in servitude was a great clash between
expectations and reality. Not a single invasion was launched on the palace.
Not one dark-elven spy made subtle attempts at assassinating the nobility.
The realization that the clash between good and evil was decidedly happening
elsewhere hit Thalamanion like slow moving wooden mace to his all too
delicate face. A conflict arose.
On one hand, his familys livelihood. There was Pride. The stability of
rules. The other hand, to venture out into the world, to seek true valor,
combat and the opportunity to make a difference between light and dark.
His father did not receive the news well. One week! Boy you need at least
a few years to fully understand the craft of what we do! he yelled, not
realizing that this in fact was a counter argument in the ears of the
102 years young Thalamanion.
But the former royal-guard-in-learning promised to make his father proud yet,
but that the higher call was to serve the light itself out there on the field
of battle! And anyway, had he heard about the dwarven entity Ysaloere? Very
interesting thoughts on the path of steel and the path of stone. No?
After that the discussion deteriorated with Thalamanion finally
leaving/fleeing south for the city of adventure, Galadon.
Halfway to Galadon, Thalamanion reaches the city of Tir-Talath for
well-deserved rest. His conviction that the downfall of Thera was well
underway was confirmed by the absence of the Paladins guild in the city.
Instead he was forced to reside at the Laughing Dragon inn, and he had
trouble sleeping as his mind actively had to force away any thoughts of
discomfort at the lumpy bed. There were also concerns of the very real
possibility that the dwarven goddess Ysaeloere would be skeptical to take on
an elven warrior priest and former royal guard in training.
Basics:
Sphere: Combat
Weakness: Youthful rashness (for an elf). His
upbringing in the outskirts of Darsylon has colored his language to be a
little simpler than that of the average Darsylon citizen.
Strength: Really convinced he will be a great soldier for the light.
Goals: Serve the light as a Paladin under Ysaloere.

Letter from the Father
My dearest Son,
Your mother has explained to me that I may have overreacted
to your decision to leave a perfectly honorable position at
the Palace. According to her, this is apparently a juvenile
rebellion that though unfitting is to be expected at your
age. Mark my words, when I was young we never even considered
this! We understood HONOR.
With that in mind we will await your return and I have spoken
to the captain of the guard and there might still be a solution
when you come back.
Leaving your utter betrayal for the family craft as guardsmen
for the Palace, I cannot for the life of me understand why you
would ever devote yourself to the church for dwarves! To this
Baddy Birdy? What if the neighbors knew! What do you think
you will accomplish by this?

Letter from Thalamanion
My dear Father,
While I will gladly return to visit you, my place is to serve
Thera and participate in the grand battle between light and
dark. Good and evil. To push and reform myself into a sharp
blade that cuts at the very heart of the night.
Not literally a blade of course. I have dedicated myself to
the noble art of fighting unarmed as a monk of the Paladin guild.
I prefer to see myself as iron being worked into a weapon by
a blacksmith. But the blacksmith is life, is combat. I think
Lady Ysaloerye can relate to that.
I will not return to serve the royal guard Father.

Letter from the Mother
My dear Son,
This is your mother. Your father did not receive the news of
your choice to fighting unarmed well. Perhaps it is best if you
wait a while before writing further. I hope that whatever you do
is making you happy, but know that I would prefer it if you would
not fight at all. But I understand how you boys are.
Since your absence, our neighbors the Silvermoons has adopted a
cooshee. As you can understand this is also driving your father
mad.
Best of luck my son, and may the light guide you.

First kills, squire and Ysaloerye

The first kills
A dark templar and an imperial shadow, resting in the fields
of battle in the past. The fight was quick and efficient. The first
realization for Thalamanion was the joy of the hunt, the test of wits, of
strength and of faith provided through Combat.
The second came later, what if he let these pleasures overtake him? What if
there are souls out there, that can be saved, that can be turned but
Thalamanion disregards the signs and pounds after them? He did not see this
danger coming way back as he turned away from Darsylon, what seemed ages ago
now. How juvenile he had been then. Though his convictions had been right,
the struggle between good and evil certainly happens within all. Not merely
on faraway battlefields.
Becoming squire
Conviction and inspiration flows through Thalamanion from
this event. His recent insights of how he can be taken by Combat has however
placed a damper on his excitement. Caution has grown.
Lady Ysaloerye
Though he has not yet spoken to the Paragon, Thalamanion has
taken an interest in both blacksmithing and masonry. The tools were alien at
first, his creations terrible. Perhaps with time this could develop. The more
he learned about the dwarves, the more he admired them. They had the uncanny
ability of ceaselessly progress with the task at hand, regardless of
obstacles. An iron will. A strength of the mind that Thalamanion admires and
strives for.

What differs a man from a fool? The fool repeats the same action again and again, expecting
different outcomes. The man recognizes the situation and moves forward with different approach.
For Thalamanion, now standing a mature elf past his 200th birthday, he was seeking a silent god.
Lady Ysaloerye had never graced him with her presence nor blessing. Meanwhile the struggle against
Evil continued. It was time to move on. The realization was not an easy one and it was not done
swiftly.
The Paladin Code was a saviour in these troublesome times. The tenents were pillars to rest
Thalamanions mind at. In addition he had progressed to an almost academic approach to the
combat versus his various opponents. In a recent missive to the Fortress of Light he had outlined
his findings of his most common foes, to be shared by all and hopefully provide some help to
others facing the same foes.
In this analytical exercise of combat Thalamonion felt at home. Combat is reflexes, strength,
wit and faith. But at every turn there are a multitude of options, some right some wrong. It is
key to understand these and learn in order to properly serve as the sword of Light at the Fortress.
The challenge Thalamonion has had with being pulled into the fight and the joys of it could also
be held at bay with this approach, he found.
Turning his gaze towards the supreme beings of Thera the only option seemed to be Lady Ishuli. With
hope of learning more and becoming a fully blessed soldeier of Light Thalamonion changed course.

The holy crime
- A review of Maran dogma versus the Paladin code and the Laws of the land.
Is there a conflict between the Paladin Code, 9th paragraph regarding the
Laws of the Land and the Maran calling of purging evil? If there is, can
one objectively claim one being of greater importance than the other?
This essay will investigate and attempt to verify the arguments of both
sides and will in conclusion provide a recommendation for the members of
the Fortress of Light on how to handle this conundrum.
