Description
The young man standing before you is of quite impressive height
considering his human heritage. Long midnight-black hair covers
most of his face and hangs down to his shoulders. A hawk-like
nose occasionally appears under the hair and at times even eyes
with the dark green color of a pond, deep within a forest. Given
a second glance one will notice dark rings surrounding the eyes,
hinting lack of sleep. Hardened muscles ripple beneath the
bleached-white flesh of his arms and his large hands end up in
clean and well treated fingernails. Occasionally visible as he
moves hints of a faded tattoo can be seen on his arm.
Role
Sir Julianius Vankenfurt the Third is an imp
Added Wed Jan 30 07:15:40 2008 at level 30:
Sir Julianius Vankenfurt the Third had after some time spent in the
nine hells been turned into an imp to serve the other demons. He remembered
some from his death. A dark mage stormed past his outer guards and into the
Palace of Tinareil where Julianius had lived a glorious life of surpressing the
peasants and extoring travelers.
With a group of silent zombified storm giants the dark mage had entered
the throne room but as the royal guards were about to charge the group of zombies
the undead stepped back and pushed forth a small zombie that raised its little
skeletal hands in some pathetic attempt to attack the guards. The zombie had
been cut down immedietly (in hindsight that was probably a bait) but then the
guards who had not fled were mercilessly slaugthered by the other zombies.
The dark mage had insisted upon getting entrance to the treasury and Sir
Julianius Vankenfurt the Third had naturally refused. But when he later stood
next to a massive figgure with a scythe and watched his dead body lead the way
to the treasury for the dark mage he realised the futility of his choice.
From that point on it had been downwards into the abyss for a time of torment,
then as mentioned before he got turned into an imp and was given the very dull
and often painful task of cleaning the feet of Bhaal.
So when one day strange magical energies suddenly pulled him back to Thera it was
a welcome change. Unfortunately the one calling him had been a conjurer named
Thalamanius and the power the conjurer held over him was nearly complete. But
Sir Julianius Vankenfurt the Third knew there had to be something he could do to
usurp his caller and once more be free in Thera - though the bit about him being
trapped in the body of an imp was a problem that would need a quick solution.
Summary

A summary:
"Born" a clone to the great filantropist, transmuter, healer and treater
of illnesses who had the same name to continue his work. This was
interrupted and he ended up being raised as a servant at a secretive
wizards island. An interest in magic, and in conjuration in particular
was born there. Girl appears on the island to be sacrificed. Thalamius
falls in love instantly but the girl is pulled into hell and young
Thalamius is unable to stop it. He sets up link to the pit fiends of
cocytus (who this sacrifice was directed to). They laugh at him and tell
him to bring them the souls of all of Thera. Thalamanius leaves the island
to find a way to do this.
As he has been raised on this horrible wizards island he knows only two
kinds of people. Slaves and mages, where mages treat slaves however they
want. He does understand and respect rules however, and see when they are
needed.
Beccause of his complete disregard for others lives (except for that of
the young girl Cassiona) he is neutral evil.
And yes, the necromancer is supposed to be the same as the one mentioned
by Tahren in his "Ig-gnome-iny" story.
Falling in love
Added Sun Jan 20 11:00:14 2008 at level 8:
No things are never that simple, especially not as a young boy and
it so happened to be that at his age of 15 a girl arrived to the
island. Her name was Cassiona and she was to be sacrificed at the
next full moon as another step in the archmage Chumankanaels attempts
to converse and eventually control the pit fiends of cocytus.
She was older than Thalamanius but not by much. Apparantly there was
much fuss about her - her blood was not pure, that of an elf was
within her and it granted her exotic features that captured the young
boys heart. According to archmage Chumankanael noone was to sleep
with the girl or have their way with her. But Thalamanius wanted to
sleep next to her - though he doubted he would be able to sleep much.
And he really couldn't see what would be so wrong with lying next to
someone.
He would probably just lie there next to her and watch her sleep,
maybe he would quietly touch her hair a bit but mostly he would
just be there and hope for time to stop.
The older slaves who worked at the island saw how Thalamanius watched
Cassiona and one of them - an old lady - approached him one day and
told him that she was to be turned to the demons that very night.
Horrified Thalamanius rushed up the stairs to the summoning chambers
where he knew archmage Chumankanael was working and as he entered
the main one it was to be greeted by the vision of the lovely
Cassiona dressed in a beautiful evening gown stand bound within a
pentagram before a massive black mirror that Thalamanius knew acted
as a portal to the abyss. As the young boy entered the room the
archmage finished a spell and a massive black arm with sharp claws
was extended from the mirror and grasped the screaming Cassiona and
pulled her into the very hells themselves through the black portal.
Something flipped inside Thalamanius. For all of his life nothing had
been clear. His past was unknown, his role as some kind of servant
at this horrible island was unclear at best. Magic was great, sure
alot of interesting things could be done with it but in the end
magic is a tool. The brief time he had seen Cassiona he had known a
force greater than that of the underworld and it's dark magics. It
was as if for the first time he - the outsider - had a purpose, a
place in the world. And it was with her, but now she was gone.
Blinded by rage he rushed at the archmage yelling why, WHY did he
do this!? The archmage, pleased with the successfull gift to the
underworld raised an eyebrow at the young boy running towards him
and told him to be silent. In his mind he made a note of this
weakness that had apparantly surfaced in this servant of his,
despite all his efforts to erradicate such weaknesses as feelings.
"You vill understand vhy I did zis, you vill understand vhy zis
was needed vone day boy. Nov leave me." and with the gesture of his
hand the boy was sent reeling through the air and smashed into a
wall. This punishment was not unusual for Thalamanius and it was a
reminder to him. Be in control, be calm, be strong.
Silently he left, but within there was a storm of emotions. Parts
of him demnanded vengeance, justice! It was the loudest voice but
that part was not what he had been taught to listen to. Reason
must be followed.
The following days he deviced a plan to
Growing up
Added Sun Jan 20 10:41:39 2008 at level 6:
On the wizards island of Yairitan things were far from excellent. The
latest delivery where archmage Chumankanael specifically had instructed
his adept to get him a young girl required in the summoning of one of
the pit fiends of cocytus he had received not a girl but a young boy.
Worthless. The adept had naturally become a sacrifice - a decision
Chumankanael regretted a bit now that he had to find a new one. But then
it dawned upon him - he could just use this boy and train him to be the
perfect servant. He would probably have to get one of the slave women
(no young ones were left) to somehow nurture him. well if they failed
it didn't matter much.
The years passed and the boy actually survived, witnessing shocking
horrors of the abyss. Being gifted with a very able mind he quickly
learned the basics of conjuration aswell as how to avoid the wrath
of archmage Chumankanael. Thalamanius never completely understood who
his parents were but there was a faded tattoo on his arm saying
simply Thalamanius II which he assumed was how they knew his name.
Apparantly none of the slaves were his parents nor was anyone else
on that small, windy island that was his home.
Magic naturally became an obsession for young Thalamanius, but the
archmage saw the need rise within the boy and blocked him from most
spells - not unwise seing the unstable art that is conjuration -
and when Thalamanius understood this his one mission became to get out
into the real world and let nothing stand in the way for futher
knowledge so that he one day could have them unravel the mystery
that is his past.
Meanwhile on a ship outside the Seaport of Hamsah Mu'tazz a
necromancer and his gnome zombie was tied up surrounded by sirens,
a red ruby hidden within one of the remaining bones still keeping
the zombie intact.
Found by a necromancer
Added Sun Jan 20 10:40:07 2008 at level 6:
Somewhere deep within the jade mountains a cloaked necromancer was had just
dispelled numerous magical wards. Surrounding him were heaps of destroyed
zombies coupled with the stony remains of rock golems - a massive but strange
battle had just been fought. Animated unliving rock guardians of a now not so
secret lab combatting with the silent unyielding strength of the dead had left
the necromancer leading them the victor. He descended into the lab with one
remaining zombie, that of a once very noisy gnome.
The lichmaker in Arboria was mad - the necromancer knew that - but he did not
expect to be answered after so many years of silence from the elven cleric.
And so he had been after some odd tasks required to obtain a few ingredients
for the potion that would finally give him the Undeath he had so long sought.
The ingredient he needed now was an artifact created by the legendary Thalamanius
Lightcaller, transmuter and filantropist with great insights into the positive
plane and into medicine. The artifact was a special enchanted ruby though the
specific nature of its magic was unknown to the necromancer.
He had found the location through a band of elves known for their affiliation
with Thalamanius - from what he had understood after he had forced their still
warm corpses to speak they were to come and retrive a boy from the transmuters
lab and raise him in the ways of magic and medicine. How ironic would it not
be if he brought the boy with him and sold him in the Seaport of Hamsah? Could
give a decent price - he needed some exotic wares from one of the ships anyway.
He wandered through the tunnels in search of the laboratory, using the zombie
of the gnome that had the odd but useful trait that even though it was almost
completely destroyed he could animate it again and again. An almost permanent
servant.
This gave him much joy - the gnome had once been a traveling companion of his
but the incessant chatter from him had driven the necromancer to end the life
of the gnome with a single word. To see it be crushed again and again by the
various traps of the secret hideout did in itself almost make the trip worthwile.
Thalamanius the second slept happily as he had for a number of months when suddenly
a hand pulled him out of the warmth of the glas tub he had been residing in. He
cried out loud but a voice said 'grzzs' and Thalamanius fell asleep again.
Some time later the necromancer and his gnome zombie arrived to the Seaport of
Hamsah, selling the boy to some young man asking for a girl. Silly man didn't
even check if the child the necromancer sold him really was a girl.
"Birth"
Added Sun Jan 20 10:16:00 2008 at level 6:
His father was the famous transmuter, near biomancer, Thalamanius Lightcaller
- a man whos research and cure for countless diseases was rivaled only by the
acolytes within the fortress of Light itself. What differed Thalamanius from
many others was his complete understanding of the body and how it worked.
He had even developed controversial theories about something he called genes.
But no good deed goes unpunished as they say, in his restless persuit of cures
for the suffering of all he often used spells to quicken himself and his worn
metabolism caused him to age quicker than others - and in the end even
Thalamanius held no cure against time Herself.
It was then that he began experimenting with the so called genes. He believed
it possible for him to if not live again, then atleast create himself anew
so that his work could continue and the filthy darkness of disease could once
and for all be purged from Thera.
So it was in his final days of living he succeeded in creating a prodigy inside
a massive glas tank. Spells of positive energy were bound in sigils and the embryo
was kept warm, safe and nourished.
Looking down at his work he could not but marvel at what was his lifes achivement
the peak of his career - to create life in itself. Of course much remained to
be done but as he stood there in the laboratory a light could be seen at the corner
of his eye and as he turned around a flash of pain erupted in his chest.
A moment later a hooded figgure with a massive scythe stood beside him.
"HEART FAILURE SIR."
The soul of Thalamanius Lightcaller looked down upon his strained corpse. Turning
his gaze up and to the hooded figgure he nodded.
"FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH I LIKED YOUR WORK. I DON'T GET VACATIONS BUT IT DID GIVE ME
SOME RELIF. MY THANKS. OUT OF CURIOSITY THOUGH - WHY NOT JUST MATE WITH ANOTHER
OF YOUR SPECIES? IT SEEM SO MUCH EASIER AND - I SUPPOSE - FUN"
"Thank you. But the process is flawed, I wouldn't be certain that the child would
have the same sharp mind as I have had - it sounds arrogant, I know but my work
is to important for anything less. I suppose you are the one they call Death."
"YES."
"INCIDENTLY DO YOU PLAY CHESS?"
And the two of them vanished leaving the tub marked Thalamanius II with the body
of its predecessor next to it.
