Description

There is a simple thought that immediately forces its way to your conscious mind ... Keg on legs. Much can be lost or assumed in such a simple cursory glance yet one thing remains glaringly obvious a man of dwarven heritage is before you. Broad shouldered ... impossibly so for one of such stature simply lends further to that keg like impression especially given these broad shoulders are equally matched in breadth of waist and tree like legs. What can only be described as legs for arms, thick with corded muscle leaves little doubt that this man has lead a largely physical life. Heavyset calloused hands bear the witness marks of time before a forge. Strangely tho neither arm seems to have taken on the dominant size that is inevitabvle for one who swings are hammer day in day out infront of the forge. He is covered in a set of mismatched armor, however the minor tell-tale signs of recent modifications to each peice leaves little doubt that the armor is more than fit for purpose. An extra hinge here, chain mail protecting the weak points all in all form all but an impenetrable moving fortress around the figure contained within. There is signs of peculiar modifications to the front and back of the armor plates lending the impression that at pinch he could ball himself up like an armadillidiidae and roll right out of trouble. A large black beard flows from the underside of his headgear, braided in several places along its length. Piercing blue eyes gaze the surrounds around him hard focused and yet with a glimer of gentleness.

Time shall weary Part 1

Thaldrak immediately noticed the thin tall man shrouded in a
heavy cloak as he silently drifted into the bar. Not wishing
to be caught with a lingering gaze he lifted his favourite
drinking mug to his lips. His favourite for two reason, first 
the copious amount of cold ale it could hold and maintain
temperature. Second the mirror like finish his thumb had formed
with the passing of many a drink just below the handle. It was
that mirror he now positioned and directed as he placed the mug
just out of arms reach.

Through his little reflection into the world he didnt miss much
and nor did he miss that ever slight hand movement, as the cloaked
figure reached into the folds of his cloak. Twice the flash of
and obsidian blade wrapped the handle bound in violet stained
leather. With that gesture he knew in an instant the tragedy that
was about to befall. Uncontrollably he balled his fists up and 
slammed them into the table, knocking his favourite mug to the
ground. The crowd fell silent for a moment as the mug bounced and
chimed on the ground as one may tap on a glass with a spoon to draw
attention before a speech at a wedding. As is slowly tumbled and 
lay motionless the crowd soon pick conversation back up like nothing
had happened.

The cloaked figure averted his gaze as Thaldrak was caught him 
staring, reaching inside his cloak once again he seemed to cradle
the obsidian blade for comfort flashing the hilt once more. Largely
motionless and only drinking water the cloaked figure soon melded 
into the room eventually slipping from view.

Only one person in the room noticed this, and he made sure he had
a big drink of his favourite ale before he went to investigate.

Time shall weary Part 2

Thaldrak walked from the bar and peered into the darkness around him
there were no other footprints other than his, and then he heard it
a mocking bird call. Far to late for such a bird, but he knew he had
been seen and it was him they were after. Calling on the orb he formed
two hammers of silvery light and wielded them confidently. He knew
it was going to be a tough night and in tough times one brings their
friends. Taking two steps forward he paused a moment and turned back
his footprints bore deep marks in the ground he has passed, soon tho
the earth rippled and shifted removing any evidence that Thaldrak had
ever existed in the moment.

Slumping heavily he knew it was time he knew what lay ahead.

Time shall weary Part 3

Thaldrak pushed through the darkness around him, the light from his 
hammers getting consumed within a few feet of his face. But there just
there that fleeting moment the witness lines of the fabric of air 
folded back on itself, a flash of violet. With pinpoint focus Thaldrak
ran building momentum as his hammers swung, the winds howled and 
screeched around him as the light of his hammers all but fading to 
nothingness as the darkness consumed any remaining light around the
dwarf. Until it all stopped, in the center of it all a cloaked figure
arms outstretched holding Thaldrak suspended like a puppet master would
hold a puppet in time.

A sly smile preceded the words "Always charging in head first".

The cloaked figures voice carried a weight to it, yet there was also
a hint of hesitation it what was said.

"The hour glass has run dry"

Whispers of the pain flooded his memories, loved ones lost in the echoes
of days and years that have past. Thaldrak slumped within the webs of air 
holding him as tears filled his eyes. Gently the cloaked figure lowered
him to the ground as it approached, a delicated elven hand reaching through
the folds of the hooded cloak fimrly grasping Thaldraks upper arm.

"I am sorry my old friend"

Thaldrak pushed himself to his feet "The Hammers?" his head raising pleedingly.

The cloaked figure pushed back "We cant, you made me promise as much!"

Thaldrak mumbled the words "The world will be a better place when old men ..

plant trees whose shade they may never enjoy." the cloaked figure finished.

The winds howled icy and cold far in the distance the flicking of a tavern
light could be seen as Thaldrak turned towards it uttering "I need a drink"

Time shall weary Part 5

Drunk beyond all measures the fire of the whiskey within and the fireplace
at his back Thaldrak measured the weight of the news of his wifes death. All
spoken in riddles and for good purpose.

When he was young an utterance of curse and suffering was lanced into his very
soul by an Imperial shaman as the Imperial army ravaged his simple village to
the north. But he did not care his wife was with child and despite his pain he
needed to, he had to get her to safety. Holding her hand they ran, he pushing
through unberable pain as he did so, clouded he never noticed the Minotaur 
swinging a massive tree trunk pushing him off his feet. Yet somehow it brought
relief reacting quickly he managed to block the next blow directed at his wifes 
head as he roared the words "RUN!" the rest became a blur as his wife ran further
he felt more and more like his old self. Enough to buy her the time of distance
taking in his surroundings he looked over towards his simple home just as an
Imperial Black Mage threw a fireball at his icy cold beverage sitting on the steps
to his home.

Thaldrak sneered grappled for a nearby axe on the ground next to him and hurled it
at the mage splitting his skull in two. "Now ya just gone n made me real mad."
A volley of arrows filled the sky from Thaldraks flank pinpoint accuracy two more
often three finding the center of the chest as half the Imperial toppled in one 
swoop.

...

War is a curious beast, able to distort and bend time in incredible ways, Thaldrak
found himself slumped with an elevn mage crouched before him, he was broken lost.

"There is nothing I can do, there is nothing we can do. Your very soul is tapped
we can see the thin whisp of shadow going somewhere, but it disperses into thousands
of threads we will never be able to follow. Listen to me carefully now you must
stay away, its better she believed you fell saving her, and in many ways you have
your burden, your curse is you can never see your family again."

...

A smile started to touch Thaldraks lips. The Twins ... His boys ... His little 
"Hammers" they were ok, they were thriving the faint play on words of "may"
instead of "will" perhaps there was time yet.

Back at the start of it all

That is where it all starts a dwarf isolated alone named Thaldrak. Tho that wasnt
his original name, that as everyone knew was dead. If he could not bare his own
surname then his lineage had ended and he did not want to start one anew just 
reconnect to the one he had lost.

For a long time he did remain a loner, but eventually purpose found him once more 
within the halls of the Fortress, some solice in the fact that while he man never
fix his situation, he may change the situation for many around him.

The world will be a better place when old man plant trees whose shade they will
never enjoy.
