Description
Six feet tall and broad shouldered, he has a slender build. His posture
upright and straight with his head generally tilted slightly back so that his
chin almost points at you. His facial features are sharp, with a square jaw
and solid chin. High cheekbones, full red hued lips, not a whisker of a
beard. Thin dark eyebrows slightly arched give his sharp amber eyes a
piercing effect. His dark wavy hair is cut short and neatly trimmed.
His pointed ears and dark skin combined with his solid build give away his
heritage. Well muscled and lean, not the body of a layabout. His dress is
well kempt and each piece of clothing or armor is clean and well cared for.
Despite his seeming to be in good shape, his short groomed finger nails and
callous less hands hint towards someone who has not seen much in the way of
manual labor.

His old life

Thestune grew up on his family's estate on the outskirts of Seantryn near
Arturi. When he was very young and his grandfather was still alive, they
were very wealthy from the family "business" that had been passed down through
several generations. The business was a slave trading operation they operated
out of Seantryn Modan. Thestune took after his grandfather, always planning
and always a well structured plan that still allowed for contingencies.
Their family was known for their professionalism in dealings and unrelenting
in dealing with those who stood in the way of their operation or those who
tried to cheat them. Thestune would have been sold himself had his grandfather
not had the foresight to demand an heir from his own son, and so Thestune was
born from a rare slave that his father had kept for himself. After his birth
his father was rarely around. He spent his time enjoying the profits of the
family. Thestune's grandfather had hoped that his son would eventually become
a man and step into the business properly but ever the planner, groomed Thestune
from the time he could speak for that role should his son prove less than up
for the task.
So he spent his days, with his grandfather, learning the harsh realities of life.
Learning the value of creating something greater than yourself and how to control
it and to control those that served you. He learned all aspects of the slave
trading business. How to deal with beurocrats down to the lowliest dockhand,
he was taught the value of many things, from slave-flesh to the intangibles
like being able to run such a business quietly. He took to it all very well.
His grandfather died to a heart attack unexpectedly in his sleep. His son
(Thestune's father) immediately made a show of taking control. Inside of a
week however, he had lost the respect of his men and had gambled and or drank
away most of the fortune stockpiled on the estate. With clarity, Thestune
could see the events of the near future unfolding in his mind as subtle hints
became readily apparent from others wanting to wrest the entire operation away
from his family's name. Everyone knew the old man was the backbone of their
family and that if they wanted their chance, they would need to make it before
the apt pupil Thestune could seat himself firmly where his drunken waste of a
father currently was. Thestune found his options getting fewer and fewer as
the days passed. He made his move.
He set up a meeting with the head of a rival family he knew had held great
respect for his grandfather and who had come to respect Thestune as well. He
took with him on of the few things of value that remained on the estate, his mother.
A female dark-elf slave was unbelievably rare. One that was also broken to
the life of a slave was unheard of outside of his home. With her as an offering
and their lists of business contacts as payment for his safe passage north he
negotiated the handing over of his family's operation, and him being allowed
to leave and to not return (not safely anyway). His father was doomed of course
and any of their "employees" who did not wish to continue on under new ownership.
All land and business associates were no longer his family's.
While his grandfather would not have been happy about seeing his life's work

Shortly after arriving in Hamsah, Thestune began to explore the lands around
the city in search of business opportunities to try and capitalize on what
money he did have to ensure that it continued to grow. He went north to Balator,
and found little of use, outside of an orphanage that if he could remove the
knight that resided over it, might be able to start another venture like the
one he knew so well. Upon learning that the imperial lands were near by
he went to see what profit there was to be made there. As soon as he stepped
foot on the imperial road there was a barely detectable buzzing in his ear.
The closer he got to the palace, the stronger it got. He began to wonder if
the sun was not getting to him. He broke off from going further and headed
back to Balator and visited a dark priest there to look him over and see what
could be done about the deafening sound in his head. After explaining the
symptoms, the priest got a sly grin and directed him to the nearest priests
guild handing him a small token and telling him to head inside and hand that
to the guild and should anyone try to stop him, show them the token and continue
on his way. As he walked there, he looked the token over, on it was a crudely
scratched insect similar to a large wasp or hornet. After doing as instructed
he was tested with simple tricks to see if he had a knack for contacting the
divine. Like everything else he had ever tried his hand at, it came naturally.
He was offered a place within the guild and told of Khasotholas and that the
buzzing in his ear was likely a calling to that particular Lord.
Ever the neurotic planner, he thought the offer over, and researched what he
could from the locals about Lord Khasotholas and the imperials. After weighing
and measuring his options as best he could, he felt while it was something of
a gamble, there was great potential for a powerful legacy to be had and to be
a part of. He would restore his family's name and take it to new heights.
Thestune returned to the guild and began his training.
