Description
A cadaverous duergar is before you, his gaunt frame towerering close to five
feet in height. His skin is anomalously pale, contrasting sharply with the
ebony one would expect from most of his kind. He is beardless, though his lon
and greasy dark hair is worn in a strange style: split like pig tails, pulled
forward in front of his ears, and knotted beneath his chin. There is a crazed
fire burning behind his pale gray eyes.
Role
A fallen dwarf

Thozur was once a highly successful clan-chief. He was born to a middling
prosperous family that invested in his schooling. He apprenticed with the
consummate forge-master of his mountain kingdom, and became a rising star as a
young blacksmith. He parlayed his success into a merchant empire, and parlayed
his trade business into a clan title. The council of the kingdom welcomed him
as its newest member... Councilor Beardless.
But let's rewind a little. In an early forge accident a spatter of molten steel
hit his face, and burned his cheeks and chin horribly. Hair would no longer
grow, and from that day forward he acquired the nickname beardless. He was
always an angry youth, with poor control of his temper. In the wake of that
accident and recovery each mocking greeting burned his soul like drips of acid.
He was crafty in a way, smart like a weasel. The worst of his tormentors were
ambushed in alleys, returning from a night at the bar, and slaughtered. His
strength, born of hours at the forge, delivered crushing blows long past the
time life had fled their eyes. He left nothing but splattered meat and powdered
bone, and for a time the kingdom warned of a serial killer they called the
tenderizer.
As his power and wealth grew, he sought mages and magical treasures to repair
his scarring and to grow the finest beard in the kingdom. Hearing a rumor of a
magic lamp, he chartered an adventuring company to retrieve it from ancient
ruins south of Hamsah Mutazz. On rubbing that lamp, sure enough, out popped a
Djinni.
'Master, I can grant you three wishes.'
Well, of course his first wish was to fix my face, and give me a lustrous
beard longer than I am tall.
... poof. He was turned into the shortest gnome he had ever heard of... with a
long, lustrous beard approximately one foot in length.
He raged, and screamed, and eventually wished for a six foot beard.
... poof. All of his treasure vanished, some small portion of it becoming
threads of gold attached to his face and six feet in length.
He raged, and screamed, and eventually wished make me a dwarf, and return my
treasure!
... poof. A beardless duergar, promptly exiled by his clan and his wealth
seized.
Thozur is the empitomy of angry little man. He is actively seeking to destroy
all magic, for the magic had wronged him. He actively seeks to destroy all
dwarves, for the clan that wronged him. He actively seeks to destroy all
gnomes, for the insult and trauma he experienced. And, of course, all duergar.
Mechanics and behavior

Thozur has the late bloomer flaw. He was an adult before this business
started.
Thozur is going to seek out the village.
Thozur will flat out try to bloodthirstily murder anyone who calls him
beardless.
Thozur is an unstable and dangerous ally. A poorly stored powder keg of boiling
impotent rage just waiting to explode. Buyer beware.
Allies and enemies

Thozur has been training this stupid new duergar frame relentlessly. He did
find two bards of interest:
A bird name Tiw-something, who sparred with him at the Inn.
And a half-drow named Thiesim, that joined him in the slaughter of the village
of Akan.
He has a fondness for both.
... and a burning rage for the necromancer Blodwyn, who came upon him unseen,
and slew him with vile diseases.
Duergar things

Thozur is starting to find that he is enjoying parts of his duergar form. The
strength, the speed. His rage at dwarves grows, but perhaps he will explore his
heritage without blood and fire.
Village things

Thozur has been wandering about, venting his rage on mages and dwarves. He
spent a few years trying to depopulate Akan, chased down a gnome transmuter,
and was able to visit Tahren to formally apply to the village.
Since his application he really hasn't seen a mage, which is more a damn shame.
He was assaulted by an elf paladin, and splattered him to goo. Assaulted by
some half-drow asssasin, splattered her too. Mostly he's just been venting his
rage and improving his skills.
He did cross paths with both Pokko and Thalthir, who both gave him
recommendations. Maybe a hut will be in his future, eventually.
Mid-life
Added Sun Apr 12 23:45:10 2020 at level 42:
Thozur's life hasn't been terribly exciting. Lots of running, lots of smashing,
lots of goo. Mages fear him. Imperials fear him.
He's made a fair bit of progress on the whole "crush magic" thing, a lot less
on the slaughter dwarves. Hard to slaughter what's not around.
His most notable occurences were probably meeting Blodwyn, and Cadmar.
In the case of Blodwyn... she was the first mage he encountered that flat the
fek out murdered him. Three times. Three ways. He simply could not deal with
her army of undead when summoned to a locked room.
He has since returned the favor, three times. And just now has asked the
guildmaster to teach him Zombie Fighter as this is a strong foreshadow the
struggles he will have with truly undead necromancers.
Thozur has a tremendous amount of respect for Blodwyn, and engages in some
light flirting with her. He will, of course, try to murder her on sight... but
there is also some curteousy. They've asked each-other on "dates" a few times,
to meet somewhere that others cannot interfere and see whether she'll get to
play with his corpse, or he'll dance in her skin.
The other significant meeting was Cadmar. That weird half-drow turned up
outside the village, entwined him, and killed him.
A rematch on the eastern road turned out the same way.
A third ... turned out the same way.
In all three cases Thozur was the victim of the entwine, and not the source. It
also showed just how strong falling from entwine to a specialized weapon truly
is, in Cadmar's case droping his flail to be dual wielding hands for pummel.
Thozur is ANGRY with Cadmar, and intends some serious revenge whenever the
shiter crosses his path. He has also with animal cunning decided to study the
Balance of the Sisters to leverage a similar entwining tactic against others.
Thozur has drilled relentlessly, mastering his abilities in combat.
He is now ready to try his hand with the heroes of Thera, and to destroy the truly powerful mages.
