Description

You see a male humanoid with black skin approximately 9 feet tall. He is heavily build with broad muscular shoulders and thick strong legs. His back is hunched and while he moves in an economical fashion his joints seem slightly stiff. His facial skin is rough and weathered, the hue more reddish than black. His hair is cropped short and of a faded white color. A full beard of the same white covers his strong jaw. His grey eyes are set beneath bushy eyebrows, which retains a hint of orange color, but is mostly grey. His face is heavily wrinkled, deep lines furrow his brow with a finer cobweb at the eyes. His nose is big, flat and broken in several places. His skin is adorned with countless scars. Some are faded, some are barely healed wounds. On his left arm is a stylized tattoo of a viper, fangs bared. On his right arm one of a fiery salamander. He is clad in leathers and furs. While he is clearly past his prime he has an air about him that suggests he retains some measure of fighting skills.

Role

Not all dwarves are diggers

Added Sat Mar 22 15:33:51 2008 at level 51:
Throkk has always had respect for the mage breakers (battle ragers). He
considers their lifestyle very close to the Old Ways of the Outlanders
and they share many common enemies.

That hasn't stopped him from fighting the diggers (dwarves and duergar)
of their clan, seeing as their lifestyle has only lessened their taint,
not cleansed it completely.

However, one fat little fighter in particular has impressed Throkk with
his tenacity and fighting. After having fought and talked with the
dwarven warrior Taruk several times Throkk has been convinced by Taruk's
actions that he is no longer bothering Old Fire Breath. Hence Throkk has
stopped hunting him.

Furthermore, while not exactly allies they nevertheless exchange intelligence
regarding common enemies.

A stench most foul upon the air

Added Thu Feb 14 01:59:50 2008 at level 51:
Recently the bone mage Satebos managed to perform some unnatural magic
resulting in his un-life. Throkk considers it very important to end this
offending state.

Throkk has learned that the bone mage can tap the powers of corpses,
even those the bone mage did not make himself. Hence, Throkk will go to
some lengths to skin these corpses, something he would normally not
bother to do.

The little priest Grecken who has some stature among the Nexans has
proven an ally against the bone mage. Grecken has made clear that he
will hunt Satebos over Throkk. Throkk has made clear that he will kill
any nexan who comes to the tree or who bothers Throkk, but otherwise he
does not care about their island and is likely to leave any nexan alone.

So for the time being they work loosely together trying to come up with
ways to end Satebos.

The Parting of Blood Claw

Added Thu Feb 14 01:57:50 2008 at level 51:
Some years ago Blood Claw (Folsa) found himself old and returned to the
mountains of his patron. In his mind's eye Throkk saw Blood Claw scale
the chill mountain side and jump into the air, part eagle, part man as
he joined with the mountain in his last blood gift.

While Throkk is as stone hearted as they come, he nevertheless felt loss
and pain with the parting of his old comrade, someone he respected a
great deal.

The following nights Throkk made sure to keep the jaette city alight
with fires, letting them burn for Blood Claw.

Events: A task and an update on relations with outlanders

Added Mon Nov 5 14:39:27 2007 at level 51:
Some years ago, the voice of the Trickster came upon the hot wind. Throkk
was given the task of killing the demon mage Ravon and release the many
souls of his weapon.

So far the mage has proven elusive but Throkk knows excuses are for the
weak. He feels old age approaching. Soon his strength will wane, so he
must act quickly, while the fire still burns hot in him.

Incidentally, the Tree is full of people with the blessing of the Old
Spirits. He should be pleased, yet he isn't. Many of them are fools,
especially the Sun Warden. That one prefers to kill herself at the hands of
the slavers and shadow mages coming to the Tree, instead of praying for
Throkk so he can kill their foes.

If she didn't throw her blood to the Old Spirits so readily, Throkk would
kill her himself.

Anyhow, he knows he must not grow soft and lazy. In recent years, on
occasion the Night-Reaver has offered some aid to Throkk. However, Throkk
knows this to be some kind of test. The peace between him and the
Night-Reaver is based on neither being sure they can kill the other, so
Throkk is not about to show weakness in asking for aid.

(Author's note: If it isn't plain, the above is of course Throkk's
point of view)

New respect

Added Fri Oct 5 09:10:55 2007 at level 51:
Years have passed and Throkk has grudgingly begun to feel a growing respect
for the Night-reaver. The frail dark elf is not weak of spirit...his blood
magic empowers him and he positively drips with venom.

Throkk sees himself as a talon of Old Fire Breath. He comes to the cities,
the mines and other tainted places and burn and cleanse. You can see him
coming and repel him, run or die. The Night-reaver is different.

The Night-reaver is a pox on night wind. One morning you wake up and feel
something in your lungs and do not live to see the noon. You never know
when or if he will strike. But the disease is out there on the wind, and
it will eventually test you.

The Night-reaver

Added Wed Sep 12 13:15:09 2007 at level 51:
Long ago the Night-reaver returned to the earth,
but Throkk was unfazed. He did not need Zek
to direct him. His path was clear.

Recently the Ancients have stirred and chosen a new Night-reaver.
A frail little elf, sick of body, barely able to stand upright!

Throkk resents the new Night-reaver greatly. Partly because of
his physical stature, but mostly he is jealous of the other's
favor.

He calls the Reaver 'Little Nymph' behind his back. However,
he acknowledges that Little Nymph has the Ancients' favor and thus
Throkk does not openly confront him for fear of being cast from the
tree.

Instead he tries to have as little as possible to do with Little Nymph
unless forced to do so (raids on the tree, etc.) while entertaining
thoughts of breaking his frail body and burning the remains.

Venom - A new fuel for the fire

Added Fri Jun 29 10:25:25 2007 at level 38:
Recently Throkk has felt the Venom of the Ancients. From this experience
Throkk understands the Ancients are as unforgiving as his own patron.
Indeed he sees them as old, vengeful spirits somehow connected to Old
Fire Breath.

He knows that if he fails them, he will be crushed in an avalanche,
drowned in lava or die to some poisonous assault. That's just how
it is. Indeed, that is how it should be.
You succeed, or you die.

When impressed by a foe or ally Throkk will often refer to their
"flame be strong". Throkk feels the presence of Venom in his
blood and how it fuels his inner flame. He will use its strength
to burn his foes and cleanse his surroundings.

Allies and foes

Added Fri Jun 29 10:15:02 2007 at level 38:
The Night-Reaver bid him welcome with the words "If you
show weakness I will eat your skin in front of you before
you are cast from the tree", so Throkk felt right at home
among the outlanders from the start.

Throkk likes how self-reliant most outlanders are. He often
prefers to be alone, but will occasionally seek out the aid
of others to overcome especially dangerous foes.

If others seek his aid in a manner that indicates weakness
they will be met with scorn. On the other hand, Throkk likes the
many different shapes the hunt can take, so he has nothing against
aiding others provided it is in a fashion that suits him.

Throkk is of the mind that you need to take care of your own business.
He will not hunt an adventurer just because said adventurer has killed
an outlander. There still might be a number of good reasons for Throkk
to hunt the person, revenge for others is not among them, however.

After joining the outlanders Throkk has found new foes.
He still focuses on the diggers (dwarves and duergars) to
avoid Old Fire Breath's wrath, but now he also hunts down demon
mages (anti-paladins) and bone mages (necromancers).

He is not particularly offended by either orcs or minotaurs,
but of course he shuns them because of the creeds of the Ancients.

Background

Added Sun Apr 15 07:47:05 2007 at level 25:
BACKGROUND:
Throkk was born and raised on Kia Danah, not in the village, but in a
shamanistic community living in some of the many caves of the great
volcano. The community is isolated, with little knowledge of the rest of
Thera. They rarely use metals due to their patron deity Old Fire
Breath. In particular the community does not use coins.

If disturbed enough, say by those foolishly chipping away on the rock,
digging for metals, Old Fire Breath will wake and wreak fiery
destruction on the world. Worshipers are not safe from this. It is
unclear whether the name refers to The Ancient Crimson Dragon or perhaps
the volcano itself.

When coming of age Throkk was sent lava walking to find his inner
totem. Much to the surprise of his parents and the shaman, Throkk was
granted a vision of cold mountains and white numbing descending from the
sky. Throkk was deemed old enough to fend for himself and was sent north to
find his vision or perish in the attempt.

Eventually braving the snow clad mountains around Udgaard Throkk was
granted a vision. His totem was a fiery salamander. He was to be the
breath of Old Fire Breath. For far too long had the diggers poked at his
patron, soon he would wake and burn the world to ashes. But it was not
too late. If Throkk could burn and cleanse the diggers, Old Fire Breath
might still sleep. So Throkk was to travel the lands bringing small
death in order to stop the great death.

SUMMARY:
Doesn't use coins, rarely uses metal. Believes in survival of the fittest
and might makes right. Actively tries to kill dwarves and duergars.
Possible outlander material, but so far knows little about Thar-Eris
and the creed of the Ancients.
