Description

Standing before you is a squat little man like creature who has a dark gray cast to his skin. His close shaven head has a few wrinkles and age spots but most of it is covered by a large helmet. His beard is a very light gray appearing to be almost white, that parts that are not singed off that is. His clothes appear well worn but they are covered in so much soot and dirt it is hard to tell their original color. The few items he carries seem to be weapons and are secured tightly to his little frame with multiple straps and belts. As he moves past you walking forward with a purpose to his stride you catch a faint whiff of smoke and blood.

Has it really been twenty years since I have been home......

I grew up in a normal family, we lived next to the crystal farm on which my
father worked. I remember as my father started to get a little older the
problems began, first it was that other people were just moving faster than
he was, second it was they could work even longer than he could. I just
thought it was old age, then one day he came home angrier than I had ever
seen him. Those dirty bastards are using drugs to try and work me out of a
job, illegal drugs. He complained to the council about what was going on and
after a investigation it was determined that the potions they were getting
from the mages actually didn't cause any harm so they made them legal.

You would have though that would have been the end of it but know, my father
and his father before him..... Hell the entire family has always preached
strength is something earned not given by someone else. So he worked harder
than he ever had before, and we saw that it was slowly killing him, there was
no way any normal person could keep up with magically enhanced workers but he
did it for almost six months. Then the accident happened, it was small just a
broken finger nothing that had not happened on the farm a million other times
but it was enough for the foreman to get rid of him, he said that he just
could not depend on him anymore....

One week later I saw my father climb up into the attic and put on armor that
I had never seen before and as he grabbed his axe from the bottom of the
truck he looked at my mother and told us her to take the kids and leave.... I
am not truly sure what happened after that since he left no witnesses... he
slew almost 20 workers and both the foreman and the owner before the
cityguard finally took him down with arrows, but by that time we had already
moved to Galadon and it was only rumors that reached our ears.

Now I have taken up the mantle that he left me to wear, I will use my own
power and strength that I have earned I will use nothing that any mage has to
give, power that accessible to easily corrupts as we learned first hand. I
will do my best to help rid the land of the taint that is slowly spreading.

Standing before a Mirror

As I walk into my hut in the village it still seems all very new to me, the
hut is old and the furniture worn but it is mine now and I will do it proud.

I stand before the mirror and am a bit surprised at what I see before me. All
I saw in myself before was a young warrior trying to make a place for himself
in the world. Now I see a reflection that imbues what my father stood for,
how he taught me to live my life. In the end I would like to see someone who
has made his father proud even though he is gone I still believe he watches
over me.

I have been reforged into something different than what I set out to become
but I think I will end up stronger for it. I know my father and I were made
of the same metal but just as no two axes are the same I say the forge of my
life has made me different than he was but hopefully there is still a shadow
of his strength in me.

I return home, the fires down below.

I have decided it is time to take revenge on my fathers oppressors. I did not
come to this decision easily, In the beginning I thought that once something
was broken it was to late to try and fix it. Now I know that anything can be
fixed and reforged if you try hard enough and are willing to put the time and
effort in. My trials and tribulations is what has made this perfectly clear
to me.

I will destroy them with the fire and heat they deserve. I will burn the
weakness out of their souls. I will seek out the greatest sapper of all time
Lord Thror for some explosives, that I can plant under the base of the farm
and throughout the tunnels surrounding the magi's quarters where the potions
are produced. I am not happy to see other families hurt by the destruction,
but that is what the weak willed buggers deserve since they have resorted to
magic to give them all false strength and benefited from the profits.  Every
true sapper knows that to make a few orc omelets you may have to break some
elves.

When there is nothing left but rubble and ashes of their lives, I will enter
the ruins and smash anything that is left.I will stand at the exit with my
axes to make sure nothing leaves the area alive. I will give them the same
treatment they gave my family. After the fires burn low those left will
understand what it takes to be strong and survive just as I have learned in
my life....

So hard it can break.

A blade left in the fire for to long can become so hard it will break. That
is what I feel is happening to me, I may have already broken. I fight the war
to the best of my strength and try and better myself as best as I can, when I
can. I still uphold to all my beliefs but some things seem to be slipping
away. My belief in the Lord of Sappers is still as strong as ever but my
willpower is being ground down like a knife to long on the stone.

I believe I must now seek other options to accomplish my goals, the King of
Sappers does not wish to help...or so it seems I have heard nothing other
than the songs sung and the sounds of the forge in the many hours I have
spent in his shrine. I have gone over many plans none of which I can seem to
finish correctly. Each one of them seems to have a great flaw I cannot seem
to overcome.

But like a axe that breaks, I can be repaired and it seems to me that I am on
the correct road to becoming whole again, I will still attend my prayers and
keep my heart of stone....Hearing Veldrar yell and the great forge working
soothes the mind and calms the soul.

The first rule of being a sapper.

The first rule of being a sapper, is you don't talk about being a sapper.

The second rule of being a sapper is that there is no other rules.

As I met with Braegha the Wind Rider, Sapper of the Black Canyon I learned
many new things, but also had my beliefs confirmed that I was on the correct
path, I was also given a new way to look at something I took for granted.
There is strength in destruction, not only in the power it takes to destroy
but the effort it takes to rebuild. Often times when something is rebuilt on
the ashes of what it once was it can be made stronger.

I also gain some wisdom in the power of retreat, it is not always losing a
battle to choose when you want to fight, Do not get me wrong if there is no
chance for escape then you can only take as many of the bloody bastids with
you on the journey. But if there is a choice to fight again another day and
win then you should take it.

I will continue my studies as I can, and shall hopefully apply what I have
learned.

The hardest lesson I ever had to learn.

Running away....It sounds easy but it is one of the hardest lessons I have
ever tried to learn. I find myself in a position where I think I am on the
verge of winning, or even at a point where the outcome is still uncertain.
But alas It seems like I always wait a moment to long to make my retreat.

I have tried to incorporate all my lessons into my normal lifestyle and while
learning to ignite my surrounds was challenging learning when to go and when
to stay seems like a bloody nightmare.

Now don't get me wrong I fall to the dog piles of nexuns and the mummies with
their ghouls and the giants wielding swords taking two thirds of me health in
one bit of a winter flurry. But it is the close fights, the ones where we are
both on the brink of death and the ones I know from the start that I am going
to loose that I just cannot seem to pull myself away from.

I now must continue to learn, I have been doing better choosing when I attack
and when I can defend...but by no means am I fully versed in the entire scope
of combat and all its aspects.

Drillmaster, Apprentice of the Anvil.......These are just titles but they
mean so much more than the words. The responsibilities are quite staggering
but I will stand tall with the weight of the village on my shoulders. I think
the village has a hard lesson it needs to learn, Now that I am an apprentice
to the Anvil I must teach that lesson and make my villagers hard as steel.

This will be my roughest lesson to teach them, most of them are young and
reckless like puppies fresh off the leash I must show them balance and
tactics that they may not want to hear. Even though they are young and
headstrong I must make myself not rush to their aid, Tontik will not always
be around to rescue them, and sometimes the easiest way to learn a mistake is
to perish from it, then you will not forget. The true lesson is the one
hardest to learn but also hardest to forget.

My plan is to enforce the rules of the tablet with an iron fist, and to make
sure everyone knows that transgressions and skirting the rules will not be
tolerated, a few people get their huts burned and I think I will make this
message clear enough.

The times they are a changing.

A great many things have been afoot as of late, Bloody deceivers trying to
get into my village with the bloody taint on them. The gods themselves
becoming tainted, Dark magic be on the rise...it be dark days coming I be
thinking.

There only be one way I can think to guard against it all, vigilance... Need
to be keeping my eyes and ears open. The village cannot be having tainted
folks in it right now when we are on the verge of battle. I must question and
test all me applicants to within in inch of their life to make sure no more
tainted folk be let in.

The news and battle with the goddess Iunna also be disturbing, if something
can be corrupting and Immortal of the lands, what chance do we have of
staving it off. The only way I see it we must stand together strong and tall
and use all our skills we have to find the answer. Through time and
determination we shall prevail, and if not us then those that do follow.

Time comes, and time goes.

As my constitution wavers and I hear the banshees screaming in my ear, I have
begun to think of other things. The same thoughts that occupied me from
before are still there but there is a few new ones that have begun to plague
me. When I finally go to fight at the sappers side in the heavens, will I
have finished what I set out to do so many years ago. Will the village
continue to grow strong and prosper even in my absence. Things I will not
truly need to worry about once I have given up the mortal coil, but worry I
still do.

Spending time in the great forge seems to lesson my worries and help calm my
troubled soul. I have begun to feel like I belong there, at first it seemed
so strange yet somewhat familiar that I felt out of place. But now after many
days and weeks bathing in the heat I feel like I always belonged.

I guess in the end I must continue on and do my best as always, stay
strong,keep my head up and my eyes open. I must leave behind what I can, and
hopefully the example of my life will help guide those that follow behind me
as the great sappers of times past have helped lead me.

A time of great strength still be a time for training and caution.

As I begin to serve for the third commander of my life, I have begun to see
things in more of a black and white instead of the shades of gray that i used
to.

The war with the cabals has been going well, the dreadlord has been thrown
out and the Provost has lost their positions, I would like to think it had
something to do with my leadership. But in the end we can only hope that our
lessons are passed on and learned well.


The village is strong but I must keep training and keep my eye on all these
young pups running around, when the village is strong in numbers it cal also
become weak in strength and principles that I cannot allow. I must forge
these villagers into something I can be proud of when I am gone, and
something that will continue the fight for generations.

I have been stripped of my title and discarded by the Noldarian smiths, the
reasoning behind which I am still not totally aware. But as everything in my
life has been a test, I so will pass this one also.

I heard a rumor this has something to do with me complaining about clothes
that were taken from me, it seems some people take my rough stance on the
life of vultures to be whining and complaining. I find this a hard bit to
believe, I have perished countless times i would even venture to say more so
than almost any other person that walks the lands of Thera and have wore
enough clothing to fill a small warehouse.

It is not the act of losing clothes that bothers me for all my clothes were
earned by myself and never taken from another, it bothers me when little ones
spend countless days standing in the village hoping to vulture over anothers
corpse, that is what truly bother me, but it seems my distaste has caused a
few others to think I am not strong enough to take the loss of a few shinnies
