Description

Before you stands a stunningly hideous woman, by human standards. Pock marked flesh and boils cover her face and other exposed areas, continuously oozing a smelly yellow substance. Her ears are misshapen and sit lopsided on the sides of her head. Her clothing is tattered and hangs askew on her body, threatening to reveal more than your stomach could likely handle, judging by the parts of her body that ARE visible. Her dark eyes are sit on her face just as lopsided as her ears, and narrow deviously, while a sly sneer creases her blistered lips.

Prologue

Ages ago, Toranna's ancestors were loggers in the forest south of Arkham,
between the city and the mountain, providing supplies to the city builders
during Arkham's infancy. While cutting down some trees one day, one of her
ancestors was seized by a nature spirit, intent on protecting his forest. He
cursed her ancestor with a strange form of lycanthropy, that he and all his
descendants would forever serve the Ancients, to bring about the return of
Thar-Eris. If they should serve willingly, they would be allowed to retain
some measure of self-control and decision. But if they refused, they would
change into savage beasts with an uncontrollable thirst for the blood of
civilization. s a perpetual remind of their fate, all of his descendants
would develop physical deformities of a savage, bestial nature at the first
onset of puberty. This would also serve to ensure they remained forever
ostricized by "civilized" society.

The Bloodletters

As the centuries passed, the family came to be known as the Bloodletters
because of their violent tendencies to any who walked even remotely close to
the boundaries of defiling nature. The people of that continent learned to
stay well clear of their area of the forest, where it circled the south of
the city and bordered on the sea between the city and the mountains. Parents
would frighten their children into behaving with stories of the Bloodletters
who would come and eat them in their sleep if they misbehaved. While much of
these stories was fiction, enough of it was based on truth to ensure that
the city never expanded in their general direction.

Toranna was born in a cabin south of the city. Her family were subsistence
farmers and fishermen, only taking just as much as they needed to survive,
and always giving back to the land more than they took out. Of course, their
form of "giving back" usually entailed fertilizing the lands they guarded
with the blood and bodies of those foolish enough to trespass in their domain
with so much of a hint of civilization in their demeanor, including having
domesticated horses or other animals, city talk upon their lips, currency in
their purses, etc.

As Toranna entered puberty, her adorable childlike appearance suddenly
vanished, replaced with bestial features. As her physical features turned
bestial, like all her ancestors before her, so too did her personality. The
charming innocence of youth washed away in a torrent of blood thirst and
a burning urge for the hunt. Some of her ancestors had discovered that their
curse could be somewhat further mitigated by the study of the form altering
magics, allowing them to better bridge the gap between their human side and
the beast within. As these changes began in Toranna, she too began studying
how to alter her form. Having grown up near the sea and the mountains, with
the soaring cliffs and unfathomable depths, she focused on imitating the
creatures of the air and sea. As she learned to take flight and began
traveling great distances from her home, rumors of a band of wild men
committed to serving the Ancients her family served, and to bringing about
the return of Thar-Eris reached her ears. Knowing this was her calling, she
soared back to the continent of her youth, to seek out the Refuge of the
Outlanders.

The Hunt

Having earned a place amongst the Outlanders of Thar-Eris, Toranna found
ample opportunity to slake her thirst for the blood of defilers, slavers, and
the otherwise "civilized." Blessed by the Ancients with the form of the
golden eagle and the great white shark, she began to strike fear into the
hearts of her prey as they fell easily before her rending talons and crushing
jaws. As her service to the Ancients progressed, her instincts for ancient
ways increased, as did her ability to take back the life nature had given to
those who would use that life to defile it. Despite having great opportunity
to drench her talons in the blood of civilization, the burning of the hunt
within ever drives her on. She knows she must pause from the hunt at times in
order to prepare for the next, that it may be all the more efficient. But she
finds that taking that pause to prepare is ever so difficult. Often her
intentions of preparation get swept away in a tide of blood thirst as she
spies a prey on the grounds far below her lofty flight. When she can manage
enough self control to pull herself from the hunt, everything she does is
focused on improving herself, and preparing for the time when the hunt will
resume. While she vastly prefers to hunt alone, she's not the least bit above
hunting alongside others if that is how things should work out. And while
some of her hunting companions refuse to show respect to the fallen prey,
Toranna knows that the most challenging and rewarding hunts are those against
the wiliest of prey. Such a hunt can, at times, result in the hunter becoming
the hunted, and as such, she always does her best to show due respect to her
prey, even if prey shows little respect to her.
