Description

The ebony giant before you stands tall, even for one of his race. Dark orange, almost red, closely cropped hair tops a head dominated by thick eyebrows which grow almost together. Tralgdar's beard flows wildly in contrast to his well groomed hair. He is covered in armor which appears to have been selected to maximize protection at the expense of comfort and mobility. The giant carries a wide assortment of weapons, but seems to have his flails and axes most accessible.

Tralgdar stared icily at the old man as the human gleefully uttered the words
check mate. It was bad enough that he was sitting on the floor before a too
small table and had to endure the old mans harangues about the rules
governing the too small pieces he clumsily tried to move about the tiny
little board. The look of achievement on the feeble mans face made Tralgdar
see flames, but he was able to contain himself enough not to snap the old man
in two. 

Though he hated his master, Tralgdar had once believed there was much he
could learn from the old death mage, even if the pace he wished to share his
secrets seemed infuriatingly slow. This was an apprenticeship the giant had
chosen as a way to touch upon power that would have been denied him had he
followed the path he was born to and remained a warrior in Kiadana.

Tralgdar knew the strength of his race, and knew the destruction which could
be wrought by a master of arms. But he had seen enough fights to have an
idea of the limitations of flesh and metal and had some sense of the power
which could be touched on through the study of magic as well.

Tralgdar was not a Rah, so would never be afforded the opportunities one who
had their blood would be given. He seethed to watch the over privileged blood
of royalty strut around the volcano ignoring or treating with contempt any
not of the Rah bloodline. Tralgdar did not see why he should be punished for
the failures or lack of success of his predecessors.

Arkham and The Anti-Paladins Guild

Tralgdar had run away to the nearby town of Arkham, being as inconspicuous as
possible in seeking one to teach him of dark magics. Since he was broke, he
could not afford the cost of guild masters, and patrons of a seedy
establishment on the docks of Arkham had introduced the giant to the frail
man he was now staring at who agreed to teach him in exchange for his labor.

However, Tralgdar was beginning to have his doubts about the man's knowledge.
His teacher always said Tralgdar's lack of mastery was due to his giant's
wit, but Tralgdar became more and more aware that he never saw his teacher
ever cast the magics he was supposedly passing on to Tralgdar. He was also
aware that a mage of power would likely not live in a hovel such as the one
he found himself now.

Eventually, his creeping doubts became irrelevant. He awoke to find the old
man dead with no signs of struggle evident. Fury over not having been given
the knowledge he had been promised began to give way as he realized the old
man did have a few baubles and scrolls that a guild master might be
interested in which he might trade to begin his studies in earnest. So
Tralgdar gathered what he could find into a knapsack that was lying around
and set out to find a real guild master and begin his learning in earnest. 

Tralgdar moved cautiously through the dark streets of Arkham to the guild.
The risks of moving about the city at that time meant less on the streets,
even though it was not that likely anyone would be paying that much attention
to the poorly clothed giant with his overstuffed sack.

Tralgdar reached his destination without incident. Tralgdar entered the
Anti-Paladins guild and looked around approvingly. The weapons he saw were of
a lesser selection and quality the ones he had worked with before. However,
he saw evidence of dark magics that had been cast and even saw a few members
of the guild practicing apparently new incantations. As he walked in he felt
a sense of apprehension as he approached the guild master.

Tralgdar turned over his bag of items which the guild master looked over with
a look of disapproval on his face, but a gleam in his eye. The dark knight
told Tralgdar the items would cover his first few lessons, but after that, he
would have to pay the rest of his way. Tralgdar felt a sense of relief and
satisfaction that he might finally be on the path to the power he sought.

Udgaard and the Path Ahead.

As Tralgdar took his initial lessons though, he found the wild abandon many of
his guild mates pursued their studies with somewhat disconcerting.  He saw what
they were capable of, but felt they would be more effective if they used some
of the discpline in their training which he had experienced in Kiadana.  He 
also found the strange occurences at night In Arkham somewhat distracting. He 
decided to set out from his second home to find a guild and a city which 
encouraged discipline.

Tralgdar eventually found his way to Udgaard.   It's clean streets and strict
enforcement of the laws attracted Tralgdar like no place he had ever been.  He
found himself grasping his craft much more quickly under the tutelage of the
guildmaster there.  However, he soon realized something that he could not tolerate.
the Loke and his Jaette's where the rulers here.  Tralgdar could find a place with
them easily if he wanted, but he would never rise above soldier here either.

However, Tralgdar would gain one more thing from this place he had found.  Close to
its center was an unsavory individual who spoke of his glorious Empire.  Tralgdar
was told of a place where the only limits would be his own strength and talents and
for a small fee, he could get Tralgdar in.  Tralgdar beleived he may have finally
found the place he would belong, and set to gathering gold.

The Dread Lord

While not exactly bending the realm to his will, Tralgdar has still
accomplished much since choosing to leave his volcano home years before.  His
joining of the Empire has lead to his rapid ascension to becoming its Dread
Lord, one step away from the throne itself.  Tralgdar recognizes he has not
really done anything to warrant this promotion other than gaining the
requisite titles and donations to qualify for it, but that is more than
anyone else in the sect has done.  Based on the titles he has gained in his
guild, and his position within the Empire, Tralgdar feels he is the realms
most accomplished dark knight.  Recognizing that any push to ascend further
would have a much stronger chance of pushing him from his position than
securing him the throne, Tralgdar is content to continue mastering the craft
of his guild for now.

The Dread Lord (again)

After a long sojourn, Tralgdar has returned to service and has ascended to
the position of Dread Lord once again. Time has lessened the sting of
additional demotions, and thoughts he had one exacting vengeance for
perceived slights have mostly vanished.

Tralgdar has returned to a realm much more stable than the one he left. There
are less opportunities to harvest souls, but also lets threats to hasten his
demise. He expects to gain at least one more mastery of his weapon before he
perishes. Although there are few to compare himself too, Tralgdar feels
confident he is still the most accomplished Dark Knight in the lands and that
he will maintain his current position until his demise. However, this is
partly because all the other dark knights and death mages in the Empire are
oaths currently who aren't even truly members of the black yet, so he will
remain wary of new competition.
